Amazon.com Product Description

If you want one device to do it all, the quad-band HP iPAQ hw6515 deserves a serious look. Key features include Windows Mobile 2003 Pocket PC (second edition), EDGE high-speed data support, a 312 MHz Intel xScale processor, 55 MB of RAM, Bluetooth, a 1.3 megapixel camera, and a 240 x 240 color touch screen. When coupled with a Cingular data plan, this little number makes a powerful mobile office.

Design
With a full QWERTY thumb board just below the screen and plenty of keys for your favorite functions and applications, the hw6515 is designed for ease of use. You'll enjoy fast access to your Outlook calendar, contacts, and key phone functions. Alternatively, the device can be directly controlled with an included stylus that slides out of the case. A SecureDigital (SD) card slot is provided, allowing you to expand memory to your needs. The slot is also SDIO capable, meaning it supports peripherals such as wireless LAN (wi-fi) cards. The hw6515's TFT display supports up to 65,000 colors and the Windows Mobile 2003 Pocket PC operating system is completely touchscreen-enabled. The screen also features advanced handwriting recognition that is compatible with all of the device's applications. The rear of the unit houses the camera and there's a standard stereo 2.5mm headset jack, while USB data and charging is handled by docking ports on the bottom of the device.

Calling Features
Many of the hw6515's calling features are integrated with the Windows Mobile operating system. For instance, the included Pocket Outlook software features a contacts list that is cleverly combined with the phone's dialing functions. Meanwhile, the phone's handwriting recognition software can be used to dial numbers and enter contact information. The hw6515's built-in speakerphone makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear. Polyphonic ringtones are available, as is a vibrating alert. Custom ringtones, as well as a picture ID system are also supported. Lastly, the device's Bluetooth (version 1.2) connectivity makes it easy to sync the unit with a wide range of handsfree, wireless headsets and car kits.

Messaging, Internet, and Tools
The hw6515 is designed as a complete mobile office solution, so Internet and messaging capabilities are robust. The unit comes packed with pocket versions of Outlook and Internet Explorer. Instant messaging via AOL, Yahoo!, and ICQ is also supported. In addition to keeping track of contacts, Pocket Outlook features integrated calendar and email functions. Microsoft's ActiveSync software keeps the device synced with all of your PC's Outlook information (via USB, IR, or Bluetooth connection). Users who want Internet connectivity on the road with their laptop or PDA can tap the unit's wireless modem capabilities (Cingular data plan charges apply). In addition to Outlook/Exchange Server email connectivity, the hw6515 also supports POP3 and IMAP4 email protocols. The unit fully supports basic text messaging, as well as multimedia messaging (MMS).

A generous toolset ships with the hw5615's Windows Mobile 2003 software. Pocket Outlook includes to-do lists while pocket versions of Word and Excel are included so you can review and edit documents on the go. A calculator, alarm clock and voice memo recorder round out the tools package.

Imaging and Entertainment
Using the hw6515's integrated media functions, you can store digital music files and easily exchange them with your PC. The included Windows Media Player 10 application can also play videos for even more mobile entertainment. Meanwhile, you can use the device's 1.3 megapixel (1280 x 1024) camera to capture photos or videos. The camera features an LED flash, as well as self timer and white balance functions. Gaming on the device is also fully supported.

4 out of 5 stars Too Many Features, Not Enough Battery Power.......2007-11-29

After all the hype about the Treo 650, I decided to try it. I didn't like it! I felt awkard and uncomfortable in a non-Microsoft environment. I switched to Hp Ipaq 6515(which I purchased on ebay for just over $200). I like it very much. Having three different radios (bluetooth, infrared, and cellular) to communicate is very convenient for me. I also enjoy the GPS receiver and the large 2.5" display which makes reading maps very easy. The keyboard is somewhat cramped, but fine enough for short emails and texts. I do not use the camera very much because I purchased the unlocked version on Ebay, so I cannot send or receive picture messages. As one reviewer mentioned the flash can double as a handy flashlight. What sold me on this phone was the sd card and mini sd card slots. How many cell phones/pdas can tout that! I have owned my phone for about 10 months now and am starting to experience probles with battery life. The phone will shut down completely, even when I have 65% or more remaining. This does not happen when I have the phone plugged in, but then it wouldn't really be a cell phone then, right? I would recommend this phone to any power user.

PS- Some things I would like to see in the next version:
1. A better battery!
2. WIFI included.
3. Preinstalled GPS Software
4. A better speaker.

1 out of 5 stars Not a reliable device.......2007-06-07

After first couple of months of honeymoon, ipaq started to power off by itself for no apparent reason. Everytime I had to go thru remove the battery cover remove the battery replace battery replace battery cover and in few hours it shuts down., Cingular sent a replacement battery cover but it is of no use. I don't have any expectation from HP in terms of getting it replaced (past experience makes me not approach them). In a nutshell DON'T BUY THIS PHONE

5 out of 5 stars State of the Art.......2007-04-29

If you want a phone that is ahead of the times this PDA is for you. Do not order the 6945 upgraded one. It is a little faster but you loose the 2 Gig SD card slot! The Wifi mini card for the 6515 is better for the little speed the 6945 is no buy this still stands as state of the art in high end pda phones.
I have TOMTOM, with trafffic, The whole USA street maps on my card. Satelite link with google maps download smokes the rest for location and traveling. I will buy another one if nothing else comes up that is as good!
I find no problems with the phone and pda everything works well. No bugs that i could not fix.

1 out of 5 stars Dropped Calls.......2007-04-24

This is a pretty feature rich machine, but note -- it has some major technology issues. I started to have some calls dropped about 6 months ago. This problem seemed to get worse and worse untill I couldn't make a call without it being dropped. I tried to download the ROM and BIOS updates posted by HP on their support pages and spoke with a tech over at there. The end result after multiple hard resets and attempts to download a series of patches they asked me to send it in to them so they could restore the factory resets. Instead, I decided to use my old phone and wait till June for a iPhone. Never buying a HP machine again.

5 out of 5 stars Love my iPAQ 6515a .......2006-10-31

Excellent phone with: Superb MMS (text mail via telephone #), POP3 mail, PUSH mail, GPRS Internet access (works great), Wi-Fi SDIO slot (for wi-fi access), an integrated GPS, nice digital camera, a clear & bright color display with wide brightness adjustments possible, a light smoke colored fold-down cover (not pictured) for screen protection (when stowed - and is removable), finger or included stylus both very effective, dialable number via touch screen or via iPAQ keyboard (tedious), excellent stereo headset/telephone hands-free adaptor (works great both ways), MP3 player (using SD card, 1GB from Best Buy - $30), solid cradle w/easy hot syncs (USB) & charging (in cradle), vivid color display, easy to use as a handset, hands-free (stereo) wired phone, or with a wireless blue-tooth headset.

I have no idea why anyone would complain about this device. If the display were larger, the keyboard would have to be compromised (and I don't want that - MMS/Blackberry function would suffer). QWERTY keyboard works fine, so I have no complaints with the device.

The rechargable battery & internal memory batteries both work great. Recommend a protective case from 3rd party - HP's clip-on works, but everyone has their own idea about what is best; there are plenty of good pouch-type or synthetic carriers.

I highly recommend this smartphone to anyone who wants it all: GPS, GPRS, wi-fi (with SDIO card), external memory via SD, MS Word, Excel, Clearvue Presentation, a built-in digital camera (works fine, by the way, and is highly adjustable), MSN messenger, Windows media player, Contact info, and a very robust Calendar program. Enjoy. Debug the critics.

This is a very nice machine. Buy it.
