10-bit Processing and 10-bit Display
While it's great to state that a TV is capable of creating billions of colors it's a whole lot better when you have a display that can actually display them. That's the logic behind Sony's 10-bit processor and 10-bit display. Sony follows 10-bit processing with a 10-bit panel, allowing 64 times the levels of color expression than an 8-bit panel. What that translates to is smoother transitions from color to color and subtle color changes faithfully reproduced.

Live Color Creation System featuring WCG-CCFL
Decades of television know how allow us to realize that an LCD TV is more than just the panel; it's actually a system. Uncompromised picture quality starts with combining carefully chosen components and circuits to optimize system quality, among these are the color creation and processing functions. That's what Live Color Creation is all about. It starts with the BRAVIA Engine EX video processing system, which enhances primary colors and corrects half-tone colors for natural overall color. Next, a WCG-CCFL backlight using Sony's phosphor formula delivers a specific spectrum of light designed to work with our specially formulated color filters. The combination of these three components creates deep, deep blues and natural greens for overall colors that draw you right into the picture.
Advanced Contrast Enhancer (ACE) Function
Sony's Advanced Contrast Enhancer (ACE) builds on our excellent on-contrast ratio performance of 1,800:11. A Dynamic Contrast Ratio of up to 16,000:12 is achieved by using real-time image processing to adjust the contrast along with optimizing backlight levels. But rather than focus on the "numbers", Sony focuses on actual picture performance avoiding exaggerated blacks where detail can be lost. ACE translates to blacker blacks in darker scenes, as well as better shadow detail in other scenes for a difference that you can see.
x.v.Color technology
BRAVIA HDTV's performance has now advanced to the point that the color range can be defined by limitations in the original video source, rather than the TV. Thanks to the adoption of a newly approved international color standard called xvYCC (an option in the HDMI v1.3 spec and which Sony participated in creating), the color space has been greatly expanded. 1.8 times as many natural colors as existing HDTV signals will now be faithfully reproduced. x.v.Color is the name Sony has chosen to promote video products that include xvYCC capability. x.v.Color enabled products can now offer more accurate color reproduction and natural colors.
24p True Cinema (24p Input Capability)
Many movies are filmed at 24 frames per second (fps) and prime time TV programs are video taped at 24p. Seizing on an opportunity, some studios are taking a purist approach and encoding high definition video content such as Blu-ray Disc in 24p. Sony wisely takes advantage of this by including 24p output capability on their BDP-S1 Blu-ray Disc player. It makes sense that select 2007 BRAVIA TVs will include 24p input capability. The benefit? Images are smooth and natural looking. Once you experience 24p video it will be hard to view video without it.

I purchased the Sony KDL 40w3000 a couple months ago and have loved it since day one. It was easy to assemble and with the help of a mount, now sits comfortably on my living room wall.
I currently connect a PlayStation 3 to the television, and it delivers an amazing picture. Both DVDs (upscaled on the PS3) and Blu-ray Discs look beautiful. The Planet Earth Series on Blu-Ray consistently leaves me slack jawed and drooling.
I compared the 40w3000's picture quality to Sharp and Samsung LCD screens and Panasonic Plasma displays. I do not have any particular brand loyalties, and I found the Sony to have the best, brightest, most vibrant image. Additionally, my appreciation for the 40w3000's clean styling and brushed metal finish continues to grow. Its simplicity does not distract from the viewed image, and its understated elegance fits nicely in my living room.
All in all, this television produces a stunning image and houses it in a beautiful casing. The three HDMI inputs are appreciated. I can't wait to hook up a HD television connection.

This 40" Sony Bravia is even better than my 26" Sony Bravia. All high def productions thru my cable provider are all that I could ask for! Delivery was just when it was promised. Even the wrappings were taken away! The price could not be touched by my area stores, no delivery charges, and no state taxes!

The Sony Bravia W-Series is so versatile and user friendly as well. The picture quality is superior, vivid, vibrant, natural color as stated, and absolutely no reflection or ghost image like the XBR2. The XBR4 with FHD 120 Hz high frame rate capability might corrects this problem but I have not experience this problem with the W-Series so far. The contrast ratio isn't important to me since there is no standard way of measuring this technology. The W-Series has 16000:1 contrast ratio, which it's too bright for viewing over period of time and adds pressure on the eyes if you are within 5 feet of range. However, the Bravia technology is great with 10 bit 64x deep color 16:9 full 1080 beyond HD plus smooth color transition, 24p true natural cinematic motion and its' live color creation system with WCG-CCFL backlight which I don't think nothing comes close besides the Samsung LNT-Series as in this price range.
Our family has been with Sony for their quality television over the century and there is no doubt in its' superior quality of television making. Although it seems like Sony KDL-40W3000 is overpriced compares to its' competitors, such as Samsung LNT4065F, and Sharp Aquos LC42D64U. But as we all know for those who try to save small usually lose big when it comes to electronic purchases. Even though most brand of LCD has high standard nowadays, but until it's proven with their reliability over time, I do not want to volunteer to be their guinea pig. No offense. To make the story short, Sony Bravia 40W3000 does it for me. A debut in its' look, I would go with the XBR besides the pricing. But after owning it for a few weeks, I found the W-Series' brushed metal style overcomes other glass or glossy plastic finished. In time, newer exotic design will eventually replaced the older version. But as for W-Series, it would probably remain in its' sleek looks.
Why not Plasma? I've purchased Syntax Olevia (made in Taiwan) two years ago and by far it's the most reliable LCD TV I've owned considering the low price and the usage I've put on that poor thing. This is also one of the reason I would pick LCD TV over Plasma any day. Although Plasma has improved over the decade with their burn-in problem, but for many reasons the pros on Plasma just wasn't persuasive enough for me even with lower pricing. After long hours of researching between the both, the LCD filled my specific needs, such as it's PC ready, weight/ size reduction, higher contrasts/ colors, and energy saving up to 30%. I would pay the additional dollars for a LCD TV.
In addition, I haven't tried the Internet Video Link unit on the 40W3000 yet, any comments?

This is a very impressive subwoofer. I powered it using the Kenwood KAC-9152D at 900W RMS. This thing would bump. I had it for one year and it is still going strong. Im looking to expand and would look nowhere else than Kicker. Be careful to contact the seller if you intend to purchase the 04 model though. The 06 and 04 differ in cone color.
