When content from film is sent to your home it requires processing that can cause picture noise or distortion. Hitachi's VirtualHD technology analyzes the incoming signal to improve subtle transitions and sharp edges--thus reducing this noise to a minimum and helping to recreate the smooth curves and high fidelity image of the original film source. Hitachi's Super In-Plane Switching (S-IPS) technology allows for crisp, sharp images during rapid motion scenes and a wider viewing angle. Unlike conventional flat panel LCD displays, Hitachi Super-IPS elements twist quickly on a horizontal plane to let light pass through for the fastest response possible.
The 37HDL52 offers a 768p display (1366 x 768), which scales 720p HDTV signals to fit the display. (More than 94 percent of the 720 HD signal is scaled to the display; due to variances in program productions and transmissions not all of the 720 signal is suitable for display.) It also features a stunning 3000:1 contrast ratio (the higher the ratio, the better the color details even in ambient room light), 170-degree viewing angle, and a super-fast 8ms (millisecond) response time, which minimizes blurring of moving images and is especially helpful for sports and action movies.
The 4 MB 3D Y/C digital comb filter constantly analyzes the three dimensions of picture height, picture width, and picture changes-over-time to dramatically reduce edge image artifacts while improving transition detail. The anti-reflective, high-contrast screen effectively absorbs ambient room light, reducing reflections and producing richer blacks, vibrant color and increased detail in shadows and highlights. Tech Talk
Component video (also called Y/Pb/Pr) features a three-jack video input, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections. You will need a separate RCA left/right audio cable for sound.

Subtle beauty as far as TVs go.......2006-10-08
First, this unit is not an "Ultravision" (the 37HLX99 is the only LCD flat panel stating "Ultravision" that I have been able to find), but it is the updated model 37HDL52-A which has the HDMI plug in. Second, free shipping took 17 days from order date to arrive, though it was 2 days ahead of what the minimum estimated arrival time was projected. (Truck shipped from KY to NE OR via Portland, OR.) Arrived in sound shape. Third, I found the manual lacking in clear basic instruction, but tech support is adequate, friendly, and helpful.
It is a very handsome unit and is not overwhelming. I was concerned that it would be a dominate feature in the living room, but it blends in very nicely. Unit seems first rate!
Ordered the Premier Mounts CTM-MS2 to hang LCD from wall.
If one overlooks the "free" lengthy delivery time and the "not-so-clear" manual, the unit would rate 5 stars. I've purchased a number of Hitachi electronics and power tools over the past 30 years and have been pleased with their performance and quality.
Amazing Picture Quality.......2006-08-12
I didn't experienced any problems with this model, I bought this TV before reading this negative reviews and before buying it I compared it to other more expensive Sony & Samsung LCDs and the Picture quality is much better on this TV.
The contrast ratio and brightness is outstanding. I use it mainly to watch DVDs and DirecTV, I have recently purchased a Samsung Upconverter DVD and since my LCD is the new model it comes with a HDMI input, it is Amazing the Quality and clarity. The DVI freeze up could be true but as far as I'm concern the new models don't come with a DVI input you'll have to buy a HDMI to DVI cable and you can use this as a Monitor for your CPU.
This LCD comes with technology that no other brands like Sony, Sharp and Samsung don't have.
You have no idea how usefull the Swivel option is until you have it

Having done a serious amount of home work, I had decided to pull the trigger on this set until I stumbled over these two reviews below. At first, I was baffled by this "freeze" concept. Whether it is DVI or HDMI, it is just a better connection. How could that cause a "freeze" on the same content that is transmitted normally through, say, a component out. This so-called problem simply does not make any sense to me unless there is a physical issue with the cable itself. So, I called Hitachi about the "issue" on 6/3. A rep. (Jim from IL) was shocked upon hearing this. He said that it has never been such a issue documented. The rest is history. I have been watching this TV for 3 days now thru. DVI connection. It simply lives up to my expectation based on my home work. The S-IPS (super in-pane switch) definitely makes a difference on the response time in viewing the fast motion objects. It is still not in the plasma territory, but as close to it as it gets from LCD. It has a noticeably better handling on the image details at a high speed than both a 40" Sony and a Samsung LCD. It is also better than a 37" Sharp LCD. I really don't think it is a fair comparison between SIPS and the 95% of the rest knowing a little bit of how it works. I was actually trying to buy a Hitachi's Director Series' 32HDLX51 due to its AS-IPS (Advanced Super In-Plane Switching), cream of the crop, but I need a bigger size than 32". There are some other makers like LG and Syntax who also have this technology licensed from Hitachi and are quite cheaper. But ironically, their lcd TVs flopped on another crucial aspect of TV-the signal processing (the "decoder") which sadly have not effectively demonstrated the strength of S-IPS.
dvi freezeup.......2006-04-30
i also discovered this problem after picking up an hdmi upconvert dvd player. audio feeds fine but video will freeze at random. also discovered that the tv doesn't recognize the upconverted signal. play a dvd an go into menu. shows 480p at 60hz. that blows when hdmi-dvi cable is $100. very disappointed with this!
DVI Freezes at random, no fix as of 2006/03/09.......2006-03-09
I like this tv, but the DVI feed video freezes at random for a random amount of time. As of 2006/03/09 Hitachi knows about it and doesn't have a fix. Also there is no HDMI and not enough component video inputs.
On the cool side, it can swivel on it's base by remote control.
I can't recommend this product, especially at the current price.

Fun to play with, but don't expect to be the next DJ........2007-08-17
I bought this at big lots on sale for $5. I didn't expect much epecially the fact that there is one button and a big wheel. It's fun to play with, but all it does is make the LP scrating noise, so don't expect to make a big DJ career of remixing songs from buying this, but good for the mini-DJ! You also can't save remixes (Just remix it again, you can make it sound the same easy.) NOTE: This works with the 4th Generation Photo iPod, the iPod Mini, and the iPod Video. I DOES NOT WORK WITH THE IPOD NANO!!!!! I think it might work with the 3rd Generation, but I'm not sure. If you just want to make your songs sound cooler buy it! (and if you really want to do more with your songs, also consider iPod Beatz!)
