The Value of LCD TVs
Aside from their obvious aesthetic value, LCD TVs are much more practical in the home than CRT (tube-style) televisions. They take up a smaller footprint, and thus use up less floor space in the room. Also, LCD TVs are lighter and easier to move around when cleaning or redecorating. The 32HL66 is only 4.57 inches deep and weighs little more than 38 lbs. without the stand. Best of all, LCD screens use less power than CRTs and plasma screens.

Video
Response time is the interval an LCD screen takes to switch from its darkest color to its lightest color and back again, measured in milliseconds (ms). This screen's response time is 8 ms, which is at the faster and better end of the spectrum. This screen is likely to display cleaner, sharper images during high-action scenes and display fewer image artifacts than other screens in its class. And because the set has a 12-bit digital processor, it can display many times more shades of gray and levels of color than 8-bit systems can. The set is rated with a 176-degree viewing angle, so the picture will be viewable from nearly any part of the room. While it lacks the CableCARD slot that other sets have, the 32HL66 does come with a built-in QAM digital cable tuner and an ATSC/NTSC tuner that will display terrestrial or over-the-air HDTV and traditional analog signals.

HDMI Compatible
The set comes with a built-in High-Definition Multi-media Interface (HDMI) port. HDMI is an interface format that provides uncompressed digital audio and video directly from a DVD player, next-generation game system, or some other digital video source. It represents the current state of the art in high-definition video and sound because the information never has to be converted into an analog format or compressed. Another benefit of HDMI is that it puts all that information into one cable and one easy-to-use connector.

Audio
SRS WOW, a combination of SRS 3D, TruBass, and Focus sound-expanding systems, creates a 3-D sound field with improved bass response over standard TV audio as well as a directed, three-dimensional audio sweet spot for maximum enjoyment. The cabinet includes stereo speakers, but the TV also has optical digital output for connecting to your audio system. Toshiba's StableSound feature maintains television volume within a preset range regardless of the source signal. This is an extremely useful feature when transitioning between a quiet television program and a very loud commercial advertisement or when changing channels.

Parent Features
The 32HL66's sleep timer allows you to set the television to automatically shut off after a preset duration. It's a handy and common feature to modern TVs, but the 32HL66 takes it a step further. Game Timer shuts the TV off after set duration and can only be turned on with a special lockout code. The Video Lock feature allows the user to lock out selected inputs, which is handy when limiting a child's access to video games. Of course the built-in V-Chip functionality makes it so parents can set a threshold content setting and effectively lock inappropriate TV content out of the home.

Other Features
For optimum display of each type of input source, the 32HL66 allows the viewer to make video adjustments for each type of input, such as RF, composite, S-video, and ColorStream component video inputs. The SurfLock feature gives the viewer the freedom to browse programs on other channels then return to the original channel at any time simply by pressing one button.

32-inch Widescreen
A general rule of thumb for selecting the right size television screen is that the screen width--not its 32-inch diagonal measurement--should be between three and five times the optimum viewing distance, such as the distance from the TV screen to where your eyes are while sitting on the couch. Less than that, and you may be distracted by the scan lines of the picture. More than that, and you may lose the detail of your TV. Based on this guide, the 32HL66 is ideal for viewing distances of seven to 12 feet.

I BOUGHT THIS TOSHIBA 32HL BECAUSE OF HIGH CONSUMER REPORTS RATINGS AND COMMENTS ON AMAZON. FOUND MY BEST PRICE ON AMAZON ALSO. GREAT PICTURE ALTHO I HAVEN'T HOOKED INTO HD SERVICE YET. PRETTY EASY SETUP AND GOOD INSTRUCTIONS AND I'M NO TECHIE! REMOTE IS GREAT BUT KIND OF KLUNKY WITH MY PANASONIC DVD PLAYER. ONE STRANGE THING: NO INTERNAL CLOCK! OR AM I MISSING SOMETHING?? This TV is all that I expected. HD is not yet available in my area. However, I can easily change the screen size to accommodate the cable size that is available. At the same time, it is equally easy to change the screen size for DVDs in widescreen.

Easy wall mount.......2007-05-15

After a positive experience with the 26" version of this set, I bought the 32" to wall mount in my exercise room. My only real complaint is that Toshiba does not provide any info on how to remove the base from the set for wall mounting, although the set is clearly wall mountable since there are 4 threaded screw holes for wall mounting on the back of the set. Providentially, an earlier reviewer noted that the base removal is simple ... just remove the 5 screws on the back of the set just above the base, and it simply slides out. As a TV or DVD player, the set is clearly a winner.

For wall mounting I used the Peerless "Universal Flat Wall Mount" and can recommend it (available from Amazon and others). The mount has two parts: 1) a wall plate with rails and 2) two brackets designed to attach to the back of the set with hooks that match up with the rails. The wall plate has cutouts through which you can bring power and cable for a completely unobtrusive mount. For the Peerless mount you first attach the plate to the wall (4 large screws are supplied, plus anchors if going into masonry). I went into wall studs as recommended since the set weighs about 35 pounds. It was so simple to attach the brackets to the Toshiba they could have been made for it (the 4 necessary screws, along with a bunch for other brands were included). You then simply cable up the set and hang the set on the upper rail of the bracket. A really long hex wrench is supplied for tightening restraining screws to hold the brackets fast to the lower rail, although I had to straighten it to reach. One note of caution, while there is a deep inset on the back of the set for a coax connection, I had to resort to a flat plug for the power line ... Toshiba has supplied the set with a standard molded plug which sits well out from the wall.

I'm in love!.......2007-05-07

We love our new TV. It's our first HD television experience, and it's great. I looked at several options before purchasing this particular model, and I"m glad I chose the Toshiba 32HL66 model. Consumer reports also gave it a high rating, and that was important to me. The size is perfect (and the biggest screen I've personally owned before). It's not too obnoxious in size, and it fits comforatbly inside our entertainment center. It was extremely easy to set up and we haven't had any problems with it. I think for the price and the quality, we made an excellent choice. Most TV's in its class were much more expensive, and I think the picture quality was not as good.

High Quality.......2005-06-17

What more can I say, it is a cover. The quality is good I think, I have never purchased anything like this before. However, the cover also covers up the screen. I purchased this as a gift so i cant really clip it on the ipod to see if it affects the visibility, but it is something i didnt notice from the pictures. I will even post an "action shot" to help future customers :D

Does the job!.......2005-06-10

This is great if you would like to use the belt clip that originally came with your iPod, and if you only really want protection for the front of your iPod. It has a screen protector, and it is made of hard plastic. It snaps on and off easily for cleaning. It doesn't cover any thing it shouldn't be covering up, so you have access to all of the ports for charging or for the headphones.

Overall this is a great product and very reasonably priced.
