good for families.......2008-01-01

I got this for a backup device for my kids' video and pictures. I just didn't want to boot up my pc one day to find out that the hard drive had crashed and 5 years worth of memories were all gone. The screenplay works like any other usb drive in this regard. It is more because of the media function. I have it plugged into the bedroom TV and stereo (once I have transferred my media from the pc). It now plays my daughter's movies that I have ripped from her movie dvd on a component output. It plays my music collection on a coaxial output. It even plays my DV-movies that I captured from the camcorder without burning it first to DVD or plugging the camera in. This used to be how I would show the wife the latest clips of the kids. Now I transfer it to the screenplay and watch it in HD on my plasma with a remote. I recommend it strongly. It is very fast also, despite having so far 300gb of files on it.

Divx 6.x not compatible.......2007-11-07

most of these multimediaplayer harddrives are NOT compatible with the Divx 6.x standards out there for about a year now, and as well NOT compatible with the new quicktime 4 format also used by most pros out there.
in contradiction to what they advertise for ....

but these items are usually "ONLY" compatible with older Divx version up to 5.x, which needless to say, NO ONE uses any more for a year now.

so dont be surprised if your downloaded avi or divx or mov movies from the internet just will not play, and also dont be suprised if customer service is not reachable , and if it is, then they will only very reluctantly admit to the lack of compatibility of their players.

if you are not sure, call the manufacturers guys, ask them about this, and let them know what we consumers need...

better than Apple TV!.......2007-11-01

I can't live without this, this is such a lifesaver!!!

I can bring it on the road with me for presentations/ demos, trade shows, entertainment AND backup!

I can easily and safely loan it to friends/ family/ colleagues.
NOTHING on the market comes close to this at this price.
Just as an external hard drive alone, the price is good and you get all the GREAT features.
I'm used to playing with all kinds of tech and their interface nuances, limitations, etc., but this had no glaring shortcomings, is easy and quick to setup and has more features and is more practical in ANY mode than the Apple TV.
I don't have as much time as I'd like to RAVE about how much better this product is than the Apple TV.
This is a billion times more functional and practical than the Apple TV.
With our clients having conference rooms with projectors/ displays, this device can easily be adopted by anybody that makes presentations to companies, clients or trade shows.
I can easily see many companies giving this out like they did projectors, since it also is a hard drive, users can backup to it, killing 2 birds with one stone!
I don't even need to carry my Mac or PC with me!!!
It also stores the remote on the bottom so you can easily see if you have it, I've misplaced many remotes on presentations before.
Works in every environment I take it to, whether Mac or PC unlike the Apple TV.
Again, plays well in ANY environment.
Again, for the price alone this is a STEAL!
I can't believe nobody knows about this device or that it isn't a standard tool/ part of a business arsenal.
Great for consumers, but a GODSEND for business users!

This is an essential tool if you are a consultant that goes on the road, again:

1. (Multimedia) Presentations, demos
2. Easy to setup, use, lend out
3. Entertainment
4. BACKUP!
5. amazing! Amazing!! AMAZING!!!

If you're a consultant, do yourself a favor and find a client you can charge this to or distribute it amongst a few, expense it, buy it for your kid, whatever, just get it and even if you just use it for backups on the road or for just one presentation/ trade show, or one night of entertainment, you've already gotten your money's worth!

PLEASE don't waste your time or more than twice your money on an Apple TV that has less than a third of the space and less funtionality if you need something like this.
