Slow.......2007-12-18
I had had 0.5GB USB of this kind, and I bought its 2GB. The 2GB is very slow compared with 0.5GB. Every condition is same with the comparison, but the 2GB is just slow. I was disappointed with the performance.
slow.......2007-11-25
I transfer data between my home PC (6 month old laptop with dual core Pentium) and an iMac G5 running on OS X in my office. The Sony microvault is SOOO slow, a problem that is frequent, which I blame on the automatic compression software that comes on the drive. The drive compresses/uncompresses files constantly so no wonder it is slow; another wrote about the same issues so this problem isn't isolated.
I typically transfer about 15MB on average ONTO the drive and this takes about 2 minutes. I recently timed a 17MB transfer onto the drive -- over 3 minutes but less than 4 minutes. Pathetic. Getting files off of the drive doesn't seem to be too slow but still slower than other (and cheaper) drives I've used. I actually reserve extra time between leaving my office and catching the bus to ensure I can transfer all my revised files each day as a back-up and so I can continue working at home.
I can burn my data onto a CD-RW about as fast as I can put it onto this flash drive. That's absurd. I got a drive so I wouldn't need to take so much time to backup/transfer files. My only gain with the drive is that it is smaller than a CD.
Durable.......2007-10-28
Great product. Love that it retracts, because then I don't have to worry where is the cap. It's also nice that it is slim and can fit between other USB items, especially on my laptop. A little green light to show that it's thinking.
I've put mine through the washer and dryer by accident and it still works and kept all my data on it too. I've even bent it while pulling it out of the USB port and then bent it back. Still works nice. Has a little loop on the back like a cell phone, so I can string a 'dangley' to personalize.
Piece of JUNK!.......2007-09-20
I bought 2 of these at the same time. They are JUNK! I thought it would be cool to have them with a retractable USB connector. Wrong. You go to push it in and is retracts automatically so you're fighting with it to plug it in. In addition within 2 months they both failed. My Dell and IBM Thinkpad could recognize them, but my HP laptop couldn't. Strange.
Don't buy these, get a quality product.
It is a SONY!!!.......2007-09-10
I bought this flash-drive for $17 (w/o shipping) and I am very happy I did so...because Sony MicroVault has this inbuilt software that compresses many file formats so that it can store more than 2gb. Very fast, and looks cool, and above all, it is a SONY!!!

Design
The first thing you'll notice about the E50 is its brilliant display. With an adjustable display brightness feature, and support for up to 262,144 colors within 240 x 320 pixels, it's perfect for viewing documents, images, and Web pages. A high-quality handsfree speakerphone allows conference calls and multitasking (combining voice calls with calendar viewing, SMS, and email), while the XHTML browser allows for convenient Internet use. The E50 sports a user-friendly and intuitive interface while maintaining a small, slim, and sleek design with tough, stainless steel covers.
The E50's user interface revolves around two soft keys with a five-way scroll. The two soft keys can be programmed for shortcut access to features like the calendar application, the camera mode, Bluetooth wireless connection, or other useful applications.
Calling Features
The E50 sports advanced voice features that are especially useful for heavy phone users--at home or at work. Use your Nokia E50 to make calls with both personal and work numbers while managing personal and business calls separately. At the end of the day, 'turn off' work numbers while keeping private numbers active. The E50 also brings desk phone functions to your mobile phone including call forwarding, holding, conference calls, and more.
A 1.3 megapixel camera on the back of the E50 offers plenty of opportunities for fun.

Messaging, Internet, and Tools
If need be, the E50 can be a business workhorse. The E50 allows you to use the 'Presence Information' feature to see the status of colleagues (e.g., availability, location, call and connection status, current activity, and more).
The E50 also comes stock with support for leading push email clients, such as Nokia's Intellisync Wireless Email and BlackBerry Connect, giving you easy email access in real time. There's even an XHTML browser for convenient Internet viewing, and you'll be able to load pages fast with the E50's EDGE compatibility.
Connectivity to compatible PCs and supported devices is simple and easy with the E50's infrared, Bluetooth wireless technology, and USB cable compatibility. Other built-in tools include an organizer feature that includes contacts with images, a calendar with an accept/reject function for meeting requests, and to-do list. There's also a built-in office application viewer for documents such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel attachments (Microsoft Office, 2000, XP and 2003). The E50 even sports a unique feature that allows you to search for files or content (including messages, emails, and notes). Lastly, the E50 also comes with the ability to synchronize with Microsoft Outlook and Lotus Notes--a feature that allows you to have the latest meetings, contacts, and notes on hand.
Imaging and Entertainment
When it's time to take a break from work, a built-in MP3/AAC player and a 1.3 megapixel camera offer plenty of opportunities for fun. And because the E50 supports Java based programs, you can play and enjoy Java based games and applications.
Vital Statistics
The Nokia E50 weighs 3.67 ounces and measures 4.45 x 1.71 x 0.61 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 6.8 hours of digital talk time, and up to 216 hours of digital standby time. Customer Reviews:
E50 is Great Value SmartPhone.......2007-08-27
The form factor makes it real convenient to carry around.
It's got all the functionality I need in a phone.
I use a 1GB microSD card to listen to MP3s while commuting.
The web browser has a nice feature enabling me to pan within each web page, and also get a minitiarised view when going back/fwd on cached pages.
WiFi would be nice, but mobile network GPRS is now fast enough for me, finally!
The only criticism I have for this phone is that the font is too small for my mom, or I would have got one for her as well.
Excellent phone for travel/business.......2007-05-22
I really like my e50 - it's definitely one of my favorite purchases in the last year. I only have a couple of issues: occasional lock up, battery life could be better (but I'll blame this on Bluetooth), and everyonce and a while my reception is really bad for no reason in places where it should be great (i.e. everyone else has a signal but me).
I use it primarily on the Cingular network, but it worked fine with my mother's t-mobile SIM while I was visiting. Network switching is really seamless. Bluetooth connectivity works great with the Nokia software... I sync with my laptop just by getting within a few feet. I don't use a headset because I'm not a borg.
The speakerphone is really good and loud, but the noise cancellation is a little poor. When I'm late for work and driving while on a conference call, my boss can tell - my girlfriend's cheapy Samsung is much better at that. But, I'm able to get to my exchange account and gmail, and I installed the Opera browser on it (pretty fast for GPRS browsing).
No real games to speak of, but that's why I have a console and a PC at home. Acrobat works great, the pocket office is utilitarian, and I can even extract zip attachments.
Some people think it's boring looking, but most of my coworkers like the simple silver color. I don't look like a 15 year old whipping out a neon blue RAZR when I have to use it in a meeting or something - so that's nice. Looks weren't a major concern for me in choosing a phone for the next 2 years of my life.
I really don't use the camera or mp3 player much, but they work. When I need to capture that 'no freaking way' moment, the camera is definitely pretty decent, even at night with no flash. I was able to take clear pictures at 2am in Times Square with no problem at all. They would probably even be printable as a 4x6. I imagine it would meet most people's needs, but I can honestly say you won't be shooting any video on this thing. It's pretty awful.
All in all, I'm glad I didn't go with the crackberry. I like the candybar form factor because I'm the weird computer guy that doesn't actually like having 18 gadgets strapped to my thigh, forearm, and belt. I'm better at old fashioned two thumb typing on a 12-key than the big fat qwerty's. Plus, I could still get all my email when all the crackberries went dead last month. RIM is overrated.
If anything, I'd say this has more functionality and potential power than most people (including myself) will really use on a day to day basis. If you are the type of person who knows the proper use of the word "lego" in any context (you know who you are), then you should definitely NOT buy this. You will be disappointed.
Probably my favorite feature (I know this will sound dumb) is the center joystick - it's super easy to use for navigating menus and as a cursor in Opera, and it flashes green when you miss a call.
Great phone!!.......2007-04-18
I was looking for a phone which compatible with local area Cingular (850mhz). It's slim compare to other smartphones. Excellent software provided with the phone, I can read MS Word, Excel and even pdf files. Internet connection is average speed when on "EDGE" mode. Don't expect too much on the camera (1.3mp) since this is not the selling point of the phone. For $200 less than E65, i would highly recommend this if you do not need WIFI, other functions are the same.
