I have 2 of the 2GB models. One for primary storage and the other for a live backup. I've had zero problems with either. They are fast and pretty quiet - plus they haven't failed. So - so far so good, for me.

I have used Lacie drives for at least 4 years. I have four 500 Gigabytes sizes, 5 single terabyte sizes and 1 two terabyte size. I have never had a problem with any of them.
Beware of this drive.......2007-10-26
I have 3 of the Lacie Bigger Disk Extreme external drive -- and have been running them all over firewire 800 which is much faster when compared to firewire or usb 2.0. However my 2TB drives have both shot cr*ps on me. My 1TB is still running fine -- but it does not really get used that much.
Lacie has swapped both drives out under warranty -- however the warranty is very lacking. You can only communicate via an online email service. Expect about a weeks worth of nonsense troubleshooting steps before they will replace the drive.

mine died within a year -- it would periodically fail, restart, vanish, reappear, before finally grinding to a perminant death. i replaced it (about four months ago) the new one is chugging along but this is really the first time i've ever had a drive fail like that. gah.

You think YOU have it bad?! The 2TB drive has failed and been shipped back to Lacie 5 TIMES now!!!
The drive failed the first time within about a week! After that (and I'm soooo stupid for trusting in the drive) it kept failing over and over again.
Now I need to review Lemon Laws to see my options!
Do NOT under any circumstances buy this product!!!

I agree with the other reviewers...LaCie's products are badly designed/built, and support is very poor -- non-existent once out of warranty. Of course, you'll be lucky if a product of theirs makes it that far.
Bad product.......2006-11-02
The Lacie 1.2T extreme was purchased to provide offline access to a about 400gig of files from a file server. There are massive delays in browsing the directories even via a cli interface. I've never experiances such a slow access time on an external hard drive as this product. It maybe good if you have a small number of large files but the seek times make this worthless for large numbers of small files.
Also note the USB interface is turned off if a firewire cable is plugged in. It would of been nice for letting two machines access at once... but no luck with this. It is for single user only.

I had gotten tired of using a 250GB external and decided to step up to the mack daddy and assume i wouldn't have to buy another external for five years. well, now after a little under a month of using this unit, it isn't recognized by any of my PCs. I've tried all of the recommended tweaks to get it back but now, i need to find a data reovery specialist and deal w/ Lacie's horrendous support. you would think when you drop a decent amount of change on something that the thing would at least make it a year before implosion. apparently other units have a decent track record but not this one. beyond disgusted...

Support non-existent, hopeless, non-responsive, unable to issue return authorisation, been waiting months...
Drives noisy, two fans coming on and off, enough to disturb your sleep with the occasional rattle...
Minimal software, need to buy TechToolPro (MAC) to do diagnostics. My last LaCie Product!.

Insten earbuds with volume control aren't great, but they good for the price. I've had a pair for several months and they still work fine. The foam covers sometimes fall off, tho, but that's minor.

The loudspeakers components match the performance of the legendary Atlas Sound Strategy Series II FA Series. High quality construction of the 1 voice coil drivers include polypropylene cones with a butyl rubber surround. The19mm coaxially mounted tweeter is constructed of durable PEI. The high sensitivity of the loudspeaker means less power may be required to achieve the desired SPL. The loudspeakers are factory assembled to an optimally tuned ported deep drawn enclosure and include a specially designed low saturation 70.7V100V transformer. A convenient front mounted switch allows tap selection without the need to remove the speaker from the ceiling.
