If you own a DELL laptop... think twice.......2007-05-26

The firmware to install the drive worked great on a Dell desktop and HP desktop computer. It failed miserably on my Dell Inspiron 1100. I'm still looking for a driver to get a working solution. Otherwise it looks great, is very compact fitting in my back pocket easily, and performed well enough with transfer speeds. I wish it came formatted with FAT file system instead of NTFS so my Ubuntu Linux box could write to it without reformatting, but that's a simple fix.

I bought 80 GB portable hard drive just two days ago and I m in love with it. Those customers who say that it doesn't work with Mac need to review the FAQ on SimpleTech website. The solution is you'd have to go to Disk Utility and after choosing the hard drive (portable) you will have to Erase...Then you are on the fly...it'll work for both.

I bought this to store all of my music on and free up space on the internal hard drive. I had no set up issues and the music plays fine in iTunes from this drive.

Only thing it's Good for is Headaches.......2007-02-27

Don't walk away from this product, run. I have owned it for less than a week and it has caused me nothing but headaches. Of course, if you like messages like "In Page Error" or much worse, "Windows was unable to save data to file... Data has been lost. This may be due to a hardware or network connection problem" then go ahead and buy it, but otherwise find a different solution. FWIW, this is the second SimpleTech storage device that I've owned. Neither of them are in working condition.

I first purchased this external harddrive back in June 06. Since then, I've easily downloaded and deleted over 500GB of media, docs, etc. and the drive still works fine.
I've used it on several different types of computers and never had a problem. I've noticed some reviewers complained about its compatability with Dell Latitudes. I can't recall exactly if I ever downloaded from that model but I frequently use the Dell XPS and am absolutely sure I've uploaded files onto other's Inspirons as well.
I guess my recommendation is if you have a Latitude, then don't buy it. If you have anything else, I highly recommend it.
It's sturdy (I've taken it on many plane trips), it's quiet, and it looks nice.

does good so far.......2005-11-26

i just recieved my simpletech drive today, i was hella excited. got it out the box. simple to hook up. the only thing is that you will probably need a usb hub. since it doesnt have a power cord, it takes up two usb ports. my laptop is 2 years old and thats all i have. the software is a little tricky, but i am sure if you read the directions, unlike me, it should be a piece 'o' cake.

Good for the car or home.......2007-04-19

I bought a couple of these as gifts along with mp3 players for some friends of mine. They were very impressed with the range and quality. So if they were happy, I was happy. It's something that's great for use in the car or create you personal radio staion at home to play over your music system. The only problem was the limited range of radio frequencies but at this price I can't complain.
