When I needed it, it didn't work........2007-11-24
I bought one of these to serve as an external backup for my workhorse tower PC, and my three notebook PCs. Between monthly backups, I kept the Cavalry disk turned off and unplugged. My tower PC's internal drive crashed, so I replaced the internal drive and reloaded the OS. When it came time to restore the files from the Cavalry, I connected the drive, powered it up, and watched as Windows automatically loaded the drive.
However, the drive is not usable, as the OS can't read from it. So I tried the drive on the notebooks. None of those previously connected three computers can read from it either. Now I'm going to have to transfer the drive itself into a new enclosure as a last ditch effort to recover the data that was lost (including a multi-year family tree project my spouse was working on... and hasn't stopped reminding me about the loss).
Good price, with lots of room. Fat lot of good it did me. While the Western Digital drive inside the enclosure is most likely good, I suspect the circuit board to convert from the USB to the drive connection is far too cheaply built and fragile. Don't buy this drive.

Bought the product in Feb and drive started getting read error 6 months later. Never dropped or moved...just sat on top of shelf. Drive gets very very hot if left on continuously so not an ideal drive to have for always on file share. Build quality not great either...the "tamper" seal loosened itself (maybe from the heat?). Would not recommend.

when i got it it worked fine for a few months and then it fell off a book it was on, 1 time, (at most 2 inches) and never worked again apparently it wasn't built for duribility
