I purchased this little unit about a year ago and have been using it since. After about a month of use the USB arm split in two. Rather than take it back I just taped it up and kept going. About three or four months layer the actual USB pin buffer inside of the USB connector split into three pieces. Once again I put it back together and made do. Well to culminate things, the internal HD (Seagate) crashed and rendered the drive completely unrecoverable (unless you want to pay a whole lot of money).

My recommendation is to stay away from this product do to its weak design. As for the hard drive malfunction, I am not pleased, but the technology is so small that what can you do. I personally won't be buying any products with microdrives in them until I feel that they are more suitable for long term portable use. Memorex is now on my "Don't Buy" list, but some of their products are probabally still good.

DO NOT BUY - DEFECTIVE PRODUCT!.......2006-05-19

I bought this memorex drive a few months ago, and had to have it replaced ONCE already because the USB port itself kept on breaking. The second time it broke in the same manner, I contacted Memorex's tech support to help me fix the USB port. The USB port is extremely weak and cannot withstand more than 50-60 plug-ins and outs.

The answer I got from them sounded like the one I'd get from a LEGAL DEPARTMENT :

"Memorex warranty specifically excludes damage caused by misuse, abuse, improper storage, or use in a commercial application. No warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose is made. In the event of a claim against this warranty, Memorex Products' obligation, and the claimant's sole remedy, shall be replacement of the product. This warranty specifically excludes responsibility for recorded data in any form.
The only suggestion i can tell you should be to take the drive to a local Computer Technician, that i think they can retrieve the data on the drive.

Instead of helping me fix their defective drive, Memorex, referred me back to the store where it was purchased. When I took it to several stores to see if anyone could help me fix the broken USB port, COMP USA, other local stores specializing in repairs, all told me that the way the USB port broke was not because of misuse, but because the drive itself is defective.

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT, one defective drive is bad luck, two in a row show is simply showing me that this drive's design is not worth your money, nor losing invaluable data.

I would rate this product as a ZERO for its lack of quality, but Amazon does not permit that choice; and Memorex's tech support as a minus. I will never again buy any products from Memorex.
