The Seagate Pocket Hard Drive is a standard high-speed USB 2.0, bus-powered device. It provides a true "plug and play" connection that supports hot plugging so you can connect or disconnect the drive even when your computer is on. The drive receives power directly through the USB connector so there is no need for an external power source or batteries.The high-speed USB 2.0 is backward compatible with the older USB 1.1 standard; however, USB 1.1 only supports transfer rates of 12 Mbits/sec. To take advantage of the speed of your Pocket Hard Drive, connect it to a computer that supports high-speed USB 2.0 connections. High-speed USB 2.0 supports data rates up to 480 Mbits/sec (40 times faster than USB 1.1).

I have had three of these drives and all three have gone bad. The first I used for approx. 5-6 days before it stopped working. It would light once, then shut off and the drive would start making a clicking sound. I got a replacement from Seagate and that lasted about 2 hours! I sent that one back as well and thought that I'd do it one more time before demanding a refund, well this one worked, sort of... I have been using it for 8-9 Months now with extremely good care and the day before a one of my school finnals papers are due, it crashes AGAIN!
I don't have anything against Seagate. I love there products actually, I got a 160 GB Seagate FreeAgent Go and it is wonderful. Hardware, software, Everything, but when it comes to this Seagate Pocket Drive, I would recommend anyone who doesn't want to loose their data, to steer away from this product. There are much better options to go with now days.

This external storage device was great product before all the mega volumes flash drives arrived. Today, when you can find 4GB USB flash drive in ridiculous prices this product become obsolete.

I ordered this on December 9, 2005. When I plugged it in today, it showed in My Computer as a removable drive, but the drive just makes loud clicking noises and the data is unaccessible. It was nice while it lasted, but I would have liked if it didn't die so early.

This is a great little treat that has served me well. It is well-designed and executed. I made extensive use of it to jockey large programming packages back and forth from PC to Mac. Like some other owners, I store my cylinder in a colorful Altoids tin. Who said computing can't be fun?

Never had a problem with it. Bought a second one for my wife's files. Stores easily in our safe. The USB cable that connects it to the computer could be longer but not a big deal.
