A piece of junk.......2007-12-29
Bought my 8GB Monster Drive 5 months ago. It lasted 4.5 months and all my important data was lost. My PC still enumerates the drive since I can see it appearing in Control Panel after plug in but it cannot mount the drive and therefore I cannot access it. US modular acknowlege the problem and there is no solution from US modular.
DO NOT BUY IT.
Not ready for prime time.......2007-12-12
Unfortunately, all of the reviews for this product are "right-on". I've purchased 3 of these drives - and all three have failed. I, as the other reviewers am very careful with handling backup media and treated these drives properly. One did last for about 3 months but failed during a presentation - when I needed it most.
US Modular was very helpful and replaced two of them (the third was still working) as they failed - but since then one more has failed and I no longer trust them since loss of the tremendous amount of data that they can hold is unacceptable.
In lieu of this product, I suggest you look into the SDHC high density SD cards at the same price and with the same capacity (8 Gig) - but with infinitely greater reliability. I now have 3 of these and I love them and, as an added bonus, they are significantly smaller than these drives.
An absolute no-no; Avoid US Modular.......2007-10-26
This is the third US Modular product that I have had and unfortunately
all have been disappointing.
This product failed after a couple weeks. I can understand that products
can go bad.
But the US Modular customer service is absolutely a failure. It is
extremely difficult to get in touch with any knowledgeable person,
and each person blames the previous person for incorrect information.
Avoid at all costs.
Unreliable. Breaks........2007-10-19
I purchased three of these brand new for a spectacular price $50 each. I gave one to a friend and used a second one. It died after about a month, things break, it happens. I sent it back, and started using the third one. About a week after the replacement drive shows up, the third one fails! So, two out of three failed within a month or two of their first use. I have one which works, and the second one that I sent back a month ago "never arrived." US Modular's customer service is abysmal, the best that can be said is that "they must exist, I got an email." Even though my device was less than a month old, the replacement was obviously refurbished.
I did not abuse these drives, they stayed with my laptop in the case, never jolted or left in a car. They worked, I unplugged them and put them on the desk, plugged them in an hour later, nothing. I finally gave away a laptop I'd been using since 1999 which still worked perfectly! That should give you an idea of how I treat my equipment. This kind of failure rate makes the device worse than useless. If I didn't use these, my data would be safe - somewhere.

Stopped working after 2 months. I recently used it on a job in which it paid for itself but I really expected it to last longer!!! Will not buy again and certainly don't recommend it for anyone else. I had the 8GB model. On the flip side, I still have their 4GB model and it has been working fine for almost 2 years. Bigger isn't always better I guess.
