Customer Reviews:
Great tech but beware interference.......2007-12-14
I commute an hour each way on often crowded Tokyo trains, crowded to where exposed wires can get caught on arms, elbows, bags' corners, who knows what. Moreover, my ear canals are too large to hold most earbuds, and I don't want anything that goes deep inside my ears. Since the few reviews for these headphones were positive, I bought them and had a relative forward them to me (no direct international shipping was then available for them).
Fully charged, they last over four hours, enough for two round-trip commutes and then some. I hate dongles of any kind, but the 1/8" jack Bluetooth dongle is small and works flawlessly: I've used it to listen to my MacBook and stereo with the headphones. My commuting music is PocketTunes on a Palm TX; I paid $19-20 for Softick Audio Gateway, which lets my Palm PDA send its music directly to the headphones.
If you'll use the same PDA and software take note that the PDA will become very slow: Simultaneously reading an ebook on the commute will be OK but working crosswords or flipping through different downloaded RSS feeds becomes aggravatingly slow; playing an animated video game might be impossible. Using the Bluetooth dongle instead of Softick Audio Gateway would likely free up more of the PDA's CPU for games, etc.
The initial connection process can be a bit annoying but it soon becomes extremely natural. The headsets' earpieces are very comfortable and make a good seal; the sound quality is quite good, in my opinion, and delivers reasonably good bass. The headsets fold but remain a bit bulky; they fill one of the two pockets on my laptop carrying case. The right earpiece lets me adjust volume, which is somewhat independent of the PDA;s volume settings, and even skip tracks, so I can leave the PDA untouched in my bag or pocket. Though I cannot say how well the noise cancelation works, these do shut out other sounds fairly well without needing to drown out unwanted sounds and thus harm your ears.
Both headphones and dongle charge from the supplied mini-USB charger. They glow red until they have finished charging.
Minor negatives:
--after an hour, the band across my head can occasionally start to get heavy despite its padding, but a bit of adjustment usually helps
--the earpieces are quite wide (even after months of use, I still can't judge their distance), so I occasionally bump them against the hard plastic subway straps in all Tokyo's trains
--there is a constant low-level buzz in the right earpiece, yet it's really only noticeable if you aren't playing music
--occasionally something interrupts the signal, and some places are worse than others. At one bus stop I use, the signal drop for about one second every couple of minutes; in one section of my company's grounds, sound drops completely until I leave that particular area.
utter waste of money.......2007-10-27
Don't buy these headphones. The noise cancellation feature does absolutely nothing, the audio fidelity is mediocre, and the signal
cuts out beyond 5 ft. On top of that managing the controls is awkward at best.

I purchased this headset for use at work while operating noisy heavy equipment and to get noise canceling while listenng to my mp3 player and still be able to hear my mobile phone ring. First of all the diameter of the ear phone is to small so with little movement they dont stay centered and let in noise. Also the wireless signal fades in and out when wearing MP3 player on my belt and my cellphone signal when in my front pants pocket fades in and out. When the phone is away from the belt or waist level the signal seems better. Another thing is the headphones stick out far from the head and the bright blue flashing light adds to the super nerd effect. Also the noise canceling when turned on raises the sound level of the music while canceling little noise. Noise canceling also creates a low level buzzing type noise. Another problem is the wireless audio transmitter battery lasts only 5.5 hours which doesnt last near all day at work. When sitting still with no signal fade the sound quality is good. When i couldnt use them for work i attempted to use them at home for watching T.V but there was a sound delay that made the dialoge and lips not sync. I think the idea wouod be awesome if it actually worked.
Good and bad.......2007-07-16
The pros:
- Bluetooth
- Noise cancelling (not many vendors making such a combo)
- You get a lot of product for the value (extras such as adapters, carrying case, etc)
- The sound is pretty darn good for a pair of headphones and I'm somewhat of an audiophile. The Bluetooth stereo profile really does a nice job.
- Quality seems good (sturdy) and I like the fold-up design
- Great charge time, battery lasts quite a while
- Mini-USB charging port...good stuff, and compatible with my Motorola cell phone, so yeah, free spare charger.
The cons:
- Be warned! The buzzing. Other customers have complained about this with another iLuv product. When you make a Bluetooth connection and turn on the noise cancelling feature, you get a buzzing/clicking noise in the right earpiece. Interference from the Bluetooth signal is clearly getting picked up by the noise cancellation circuit. There should be better isolation between these functions.
- The support! It pretty much doesn't exist. I've been trying to contact iLuv/jWIN for over 2 weeks now (regarding the above buzzing issue) with multiple voice and email messages with absolutely zero response. It doesn't even seem like anyone is home and I tried at multiple times during the day. You would think someone would be manning the phones?
So, with that all said, I still do think it's a relatively decent product. A behind-the-head style would have been more ideal vs. the top-of-the-head (which looks rather dorky), but otherwise pretty solid.
Mine are busted, but I still loved them - just briefly!.......2007-06-22
I just got my order today. Charged them up, used the dongle and listened to itunes on my laptop and could freely move about. Fantastic!
Then I went to pair with my cell phone, and the "Multi-function" button got stuck inside the earpiece. But I must say, I called their support line, and they were fantastic. They told me that they were getting a new shipment in a couple of weeks and to send in my unit with the receipt, and they would send me a new unit once they arrive. Can't ask for more than that!
Update July 29, 2007: Well, two pairs later, both having the same problem, so while I'm still waiting for a replacement to go for the "Third time's a charm" approach, I'll edit this review. The button that is used for pairing, answering calls, etc., on BOTH pairs got stuck inside the earpiece. I was extra careful on the 2nd pair, and had them working for about 4 days. I really want them to work, can you tell? I'm hoping that the quality control on the next pair is improved.
