Lacks Audio Output or Headphone Jack.......2007-12-26

Several people have pointed out that the built in sound on this TV isn't great. One person pointed out that you can hook it up to an external sound system.

Not actually. This TV lacks the standard Audio Out jacks. There is no RCA audio outjack. Not even a headset jack.

This TV does have a digital audio out jack - so you could use it with a modern surround sound system. Unfortunately, that's not what we have. People who want to hook up a simple headphone, or a wireless headphones, or regular stereo speakers are out of luck.

We have called Sharp product support and verified that this is true. They provide no workaround or explanation for this omission.

This is a show-stopper for us. My wife likes to watch TV over her wireless headphones while I fall asleep. A TV without audio jacks is out of the question.

Great Picture but Poor Audio.......2007-12-02

The picture is great. However, the volume on this TV even at the maximum setting of 50, is not loud enough. If you are going to buy this, be prepared to purchase an external set of speakers. I've just returned the TV to the seller. If it is for a small room such as a bedroom, it may be OK, but not for a den or living room.

I could say a lot of good things about this this TV in terms of features and picture quality, but the sound volume is so low, it severely limits its usefulness.

Superb LCD TV.......2007-09-17

I brought this HDTV even after reading the previous two reviews. Now that I had it for a while, I can say that this one excellent HDTV. I will address the biggest complaint in the two previous reviews, the sound quality. Well, the sound system to this TV will not be overpowering to anyone but it also quite functional. Chances are, if this is your primary TV set, you will have the sound system to go with your HDTV so the TV's audio system would be immaterial. If this is a back-up TV, then the audio system is good enough for casual uses. I live near an airport and major road network and I don't have any problem hearing this TV set. It would be nicer if the speakers were better but it does the job.

On the other hand, the picture quality, colors, contrast and everything else that goes with this type of TV is simply superb. I have tested out many 720p LCD set and I think this one got it all beat. This set also come with a build-in progressive scan DVD player that is tailor made for your DVD collection - that is your regular DVD collection and not the Blu-Ray or HD stuff. If this is your first HDTV buy and you got a large regular DVD collection like I do, then buying this set is definite no-brainer.

So what you have here is a 720p LCD HDTV that is definitely one of the best in its size, with a DVD player to boot and only weakness is that the audio might be slightly underpowered. I still gave it five stars in the end because the audio weakness didn't bother me at all. Of course, my hearing could be better then the previous two reviewers.

This cable has served me well for 2 years now, and with a silver core, O2 free copper, double shielding, machined ends, 24K gold plated ends, silver soldered, etc., what more could you want in a component video cable in this price range?

I highly recommend getting this Optical Digital Cable if you own both a surround sound theater system and a dvd player that have slots for this type of fiber optic connection. But make sure they both do or else you will waste time and money.

I am admittedly a novice when it comes to audio equipment...but I know what my ears tell me. Before I bought this cable, I had the basic RCA cables that come in the DVD player box. I thought my surround sound system sounded good...after plugging this cable in, the good sound quality has improved leaps and bounds (and I am not kidding here).

Sounds now go precisely into the surround speaker it was meant to go to...the sound is much cleaner and definitely in the proper location. When I had the RCA cables, the "surround" effect also wasn't as good...now, it is no doubt perfect.

Buy this cable...it improves sound quality 10 fold...plus it is much cheaper than the bigger name.

Digital Audio Rules.......2002-05-18

The Acoustic Research HT181 Optical Digital Cable is a wonderful choice if you are looking to take your stereo system to the next level.

As I've come to notice, it seem that the only cables out there where the Monster cables. Not true. The great news is, for a cheaper price and without sacrificing quality, the Acoustic Research cable is the perfect match for those of us who are watching our money and want a good quality product.

If you have a DVD player (mines an RCA...) that has an optical audio plug and a stereo receiver that receives optical audio, don't wait any longer!! Stop using those RCA left and right plugs and buy an optical cable.

The AR HT181 cables will expand you're listening please due to the fact that every speaker in your system (front: left/right, back: left/right, Center & subwofer) will receive it's own independent audio signal creating incredible audio effect and enhance your listening pleasure to any DVD movie.

To try and be super technical about these cables and compare them to Monsters is overkill and every room has it's own unique acoustics. The point being . . . if you're looking for a digital optical cable and are looking for a good price these should be an excellent choice.

The construction of the cables are good. They are well packaged and protected with plastic caps on the tips (remove before using) and they fit snug and properly into the jack on my DVD and stereo receiver.

I bought this product from amazon after looking around at circuit city, best buy online etc. All of them carry only the monster cable product... They have no other option which is really annoying. I use a Sony receiver and have a Panasonic DVD player & this product works perfectly well with both of them. The product fits perfectly and the cable is long enough if you are using an entertainment center. Now, I am not a sound engineer but I've seen the Monster product used at stores and this product works as well as the Monster product. I would highly recommend buying this and not forking out the extra money for monster.
