Product Description
Linksys NSLU2 Network Storage Link for USB 2.0 Disk Drives addresses a key problem that occurs in most office LAN environments. As workgroup needs evolve for increased datastorage demands along with emergent technologies, increasing the storage capacity of your network becomes vital. With the availability of many accessory hard drives, it is possible to increase storage without overhauling your entire network and the NSLU2 makes it possible with greater ease than you might have imagined. Now you can quickly and easily add gigabytes of storage space onto your network with the Network Storage Link from Linksys. This tiny network appliance connects USB 2.0 hard drives directly to your Ethernet network. You can connect up to two stand-alone USB disk drives of any size, and access them from anywhere on your network. You can even plug a USB flash disk into the Network Storage Link, for a convenient way of accessing your portable data files. The Network Storage Link can also be set up so that your storage devices are accessible from the Internet -- files can be easily downloaded via your web browser. Your files can be available publicly, or create password-protected accounts for authorized users. Installation of the Network Storage Link is simple -- just plug it directly into your 10/100 Ethernet network, and attach your USB 2.0 hard drives or flash disk. It can self-configure to your network via DHCP or you can use the built-in utility to manually configure it. With the speedy USB 2.0 interface, you'll get quick response times with even your largest files.

Not Ready for use with an NTFS drive.......2007-12-24
The new firmware claims to support only one NTFS formatted drive; but it doesn't work very well. I tried for several days to back up data files. The jobs would start and never finish. No error messages in the log. No clue. Very often the system would totally hang and not be addressable from the web interface. This required unplugging the power to reset the box -- the reset button was useless in these cases. After many days of frustration, I tried reformatting the drive to the native Linux ext3. It's worked automatically without a problem since. The issue here is if the device fails, the drive is unreadable from a Windows machine. So my recommendation is if you are strictly a windows operation, look elsewhere. On the other hand if you have a mixed environment this could be a very cost effective NAS system for you.
Space saver.......2007-12-12
My situation was that I wanted to share two existing USB drives on my home network. I didn't want a full Samba server running due to the electric bill and space required. This box has been the perfect answer to my requirements.
The setup instructions are weak, and there seems to be an overlap between Groups and Users in setting permissions. If you understand the general concepts of a Samba server, it's easier to setup. The setup is from a web page, and is spectacularly easier than setting up a full Samba implementation. Also, it seems to require a re-format of the drive to the Linux format. That means the USB drive will not work directly with a Windows box after the re-format, but it will be mountable on a Linux box.
My Win98 box can't find it at all, but on the XP boxes, the files are only visible to my login. Other logins on my computers and the other computers can't see inside the root directories or lower. Obviously, any user with the user name and password of the unit can access the files from any machine on the local network.
There are existing network drives that would be cheaper if I didn't already have the USB drives, and it's somewhat slower than a Linux Samba server. The speed issue only shows with very large files or a large quantity of files.
There is considerable information on the web about how to use this platform for many other network projects. I plan to buy another purely for use as a project platform.
Performs well with the right firmware.......2007-11-30
I've been using this product for about a year. I bought it specifically to use with a single drive for backing up my main PC.
Taking it out of the box and getting it set up was very easy and straightforward. I had it working within a few minutes. Everything seemed to work the way I wanted it to. A couple of days later it got very slow and un-responsive. I would try to connect to one of its network shares and it would literally take 5 minutes to refresh the folders in any directory. This was obviously unacceptable, so I made sure I had all the latest firmware and contacted support. After exchanging numerous e-mails, they determined that the hardware was bad and I should send it back to be replaced.
In the meantime I had discovered a 3rd party Linux firmware for the device called Unslung (NSLU2-Linux). Since Linksys had said it was hardware, I figured I'd give the Unslung firmware a quick shot just to make sure. I installed the Unslung firmware and it started working great and continues to work great until this day. The basic Unslung firmware has all of the same web configuration pages that the stock Linksys firmware has, but it actually works properly. Linksys may have released better firmware since, but I've been using the Unslung firmware ever since and haven't looked back.
In summary, it's a really nice device. It's small and convenient, and is easy to set up and get working very quickly. You can do full or incremental scheduled backups from windows/samba shares without any software on the PC. The only thing holding me back from rating it 5 stars is the performance problems with the stock firmware. If you buy this, I would highly recommend updating to the latest Unslung firmware.
Not what I expect.......2007-11-29
Had problems keeping linked up. Impossible to backups of the Drive. At least for me.
Almost what the doctor ordered.......2007-11-24
The good side? It worked fine with my Macs and fairly old Belkin wireless router. The bad side? I wasn't expecting blazing fast transfer speeds over ethernet (much less wireless), so that wasn't an issue. That it doesn't say on the box: "WARNING: YOU HAVE TO REFORMAT YOUR EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE FIRST!" is an issue, though I managed to find enough temporary storage to get away with the format without losing anything crucial.
It's also unfortunate that it doesn't come with instructions for installing it on anything but Windows. A quick web search will address that quickly enough.
Given that it reformats the hard drive to EXT3 format, I suspect it's running embedded Linux under the hood, which is cool but neither here nor there in the grand scheme of things.

William Martin - Los Angeles.......2007-11-30
A portable device with more bulk than expected in size. It performs poorly outside, even with placing it under an umbrella and inside a backpack. I used to own another Casio portable T.V.that performed better and was much smaller. Inside, it fulfills my expectations. Screen is small and you have squint watching. Knowing what I know now, I would not buy again or recommend.
Good Portable TV.......2007-11-02
I think the video of this little portable TV is great. It is also neat that it is waterproof in case you want to take it outdoors. The only thing that it lacks is the AC Adapter that you have to purchase it separately.
I love it!!.......2007-09-17
I love my little casio television. I watch it during my half hour lunch, I wish I would have purchased the adapter, the batteries get run down real quick.
Great little TV.......2007-09-16
If You just need a small TV, this is the one. I use it for work and find it great for what I do with it. Good sound, nice pic, love the automatic tuner. Quality small TV's are getting hard to find and You may find less expensive models, You won't find much better for this kind of money.
Good Product.......2007-09-14
Excellent product, but the only draw back is that battery wears quickly. They should offer and adapter with product.
