Ditch the buds and slip on some cans........2007-12-08
You're not alone if you believe the stock headphones that come with most portable music players aren't up to the task, and that earbuds are a headache.
Back when I bought my first Sony WalkMan, I sought out an alternative to those first-generation mini headphones and found it in the legendary Sennheiser HD414 headphone. The HD414 was a departure from the previous century's vogue for head-devouring headphones, replacing big heavy drivers with a pair of lightweight foam rubber "earmuffs" that exerted almost no pressure on the ear. Like a pair of glasses, you could get used to them and forget you were wearing them. Sennheiser's patented Open-Aire design allowed you to hear all the music without being shut out from sounds around you. They quickly became the favorites of radio disc jockeys and others who needed to monitor audio but still carry on a conversation.
Those headphones served me well from my days as a college disc jockey through a series of portable CD players but by the time I bought my first iPod nano, I had long since lost track of them.
The good news: Sennheiser Open-Aire headphones are not only alive and well but better than ever. The HD435, from about the middle of the Open-Aire range, is possibly the best value, combining the legendary Sennheiser listening experience with a handy inline volume control. Because of their on-the-ear (also called supra-aural) design, you ears stay cool and comfy. The padded headband is a nice improvement of the original Open-Aire design and the single-point-of-entry cable means more freedom of movement. The cable terminates in a mini-stereo plug and Sennheiser includes a 1/4-inch adapter so you can plug the HD435 into stereo receivers and mixing boards.
On the technical side, the 19,500 Hertz frequency response ceiling is a mere 500 Hz shy of what's considered the limit of human hearing, while the bass response reaches down to 18 Hz. Translation: even though the sound is going right into your ears, you can sometimes feel the bass all over your body. High notes remain crystal-clear with little loss in directionality.
The red-orange accent ring on each phone appears to be Sennheiser's response to Apple's white iPod earbuds. It's their fashion statement, allowing fellow Open-Aire devotees to recognize each other from a distance.
I love these headphones!.......2007-07-16
I'm addicted to the volume control on this unit. Absolutely smashing! These are certainly not studio quality headphones, but for clarity, volume and bass levels it's a 10! Perfect for everyday listening enjoyment.
good sound for price, but long burn-in period.......2007-07-12
When I first put these on, my first reaction was that I'd been ripped off. They were very uncomfortable for me, and I couldn't keep them on for more than half an hour because the headband was too tight and made my ears hurt too much (maybe I just have a weird-shaped head). More importantly, the sound really sucked. There was a lot of bass, but it was all "flabby." And everything sounded muffled, almost like there was something between my ears and the headphones.
I looked around the web to see if the general consensus was that this headphone sucked. There aren't that many reviews (guess this guy's not that popular) and the reviews are mixed, but one site did mention that the headphone sounded very different after one month of testing than it did when brand new. I didn't know this, but apparently there's this thing called "burn-in" where headphone drivers don't sound like they're supposed to until you've used them for a while.
Well, the HD435's really do sound different after a while! I plugged my headphone into a cd player, stuck it in my dresser, and left the music playing for about 5 days. Now the bass isn't flabby (but it's still not tight), and it doesn't sound muffled anymore. In fact, they sound pretty good! I mean, there are better sounding headphones out there, but those also cost more money. The HD435 is a good compromise between the cheapo 'phones that came with my cd player and the expensivo 'phones that cost five times as much. If you're tight on money, these should be a safe bet.
needed volume control.......2007-01-30
Sound ok.the ear pads are to thin.one hour is the maximum before ear problems because of thin pads.the volume control is great.
IN-LINE VOLUME CONTROL !!!!!!.......2006-12-22
Purchased these headphones in Nov 2006. Needed headphones for everyday use i.e. computer T.V. etc.
It's very hard to find quality headphones with Volume Control.
PROS: 1. In-line Volume Control (No need to reach for T.V., Stereo remotes or Keyboards to adjust the volume)
2. Great Sennheiser Sound (Bass is deeper than you'd expect from "open air" headphones.
3. Comfort (Plenty of padding over your ears and very comfy padding on the headset.
4. Design (Love the Red around the earpieces.

Great projector for the price.......2006-09-04
I bought this projector because I need to show videos to large groups of people. I have it hooked up to a dvd player via the S-Video cable, and the picture is sharp. If you plan to watch videos with this projector, it will work nicely. It has 800x600 resolution, and as of right now, DVDs and standard TV are only 720x480 (so the resolution is more than enough). If you want to display HDTV, this projector can process a 720p signal, but it will downconvert it to fit its 800x600 native resolution.
It is not the brightest projector (the 1800 lumens is more like 1600), but it is more than adequate in a partially-lit room, even when on "economy mode." In addition, when in economy mode, it is nearly silent. Because it is a DLP projector, you do see the occasional "rainbow effect" (basically brief flashes of rainbow colors when darting your eyes back and forth across the screen).
Previous to this purchase, I used a much more expensive projector, but because I use it for showing standard-resoltion DVD videos (i.e., not HDTV), this one works just as well. The bulb is between 250-300 depending on where you find it.
Functional.......2006-09-03
I am happy I bought this item. It gives great performance all the time. It is extremely bright and runs smoothly. Additionally, you can hardly hear it running at all. One downside to this item however is the fact that it has a remote control but it doesn't change the slides, you still have to manually move from one slide to the next.
OK Value - Image is not that bright.......2006-08-04
This unit is lightweight, compact and comes with its own carrying case. Keystone adjustment is very easy. But I was disappointed by the brightness of this unit. Although it is rated to be a 1800 ANSI lumen projector, it is not as bright as other 1800 ANSI lumen units I've used or even some 1500 ANSI lumen projectors.
