HDMI is a lossless, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface to link any audio/video source (such as a set-top box, DVD player, or AV receiver) with your TV--all over a single cable. HDMI supports standard, enhanced or high definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio on a single cable. It supports all ATSC formats--standard (SDTV), enhanced (EDTV), and high (HDTV).
Component video (also called Y/Pb/Pr) features a three-jack video input, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections. You will need a separate RCA left/right audio cable for sound.
Response Time refers specifically to LCD monitor and refers to the amount of time it takes for a liquid crystal cell to from active (black) to inactive (white) and back against to active (black). It's measured in milliseconds (ms), and the lower the number the faster the response time--translating to a smoother picture with fewer pixilated or ghosted artifacts.

Great Picture . . . but.......2007-07-03
This HDTV does have a great picture but the assembly instructions are poor and don't plan on using it in a bedroom. There are several on-screen steps to get to the sleep timer, and then hope it takes the program and works. Not fun when all you want to do is watch the news and go to sleep. I had to return it and buy a Sony; just push the sleep button once for each 15 minutes you want on the timer!

I honestly can't relate to half of these reviews here. I got a refurb a couple weeks ago and it's been absolutely great. I've been watching Discovery Channel's Planet Earth series in 720p and it looks fantastic! The sound from the speakers is great for my apartment and fills the apartment very well. My colors are clear and crisp, no blueish tint. I don't even mind that it doesn't have a volume meter. My xbox 360 looks great on this set using component cables, making me want to see just how pretty this thing could look using HDMI in.

I'm going on as many forums as possible to tell people to stay away from this TV. I bought one. It looks awesome, when it works. It often will go blank. Sometimes it will stay that way until you unplug it and plug it back in. It doesn't matter what the input is. I've used S-Video, Component, and HDMI. I've had it going through and not going through my receiver. It also does if from my DVD player (HDMI, component, S-Video), from my cable box (HDMI, component, S-Video), and also my XBox 360 (component, S-Video). I've installed a power regulator and moved everything electronic at least six feet away. It still does it. So, going through all of this, I ended up going five days over the labor warranty. FIVE DAYS!!! Now I have to pay two to three hundred bucks to fix it, fifty miles away, and they won't guarantee that they can even fix it. Magnavox won't bend the rules a tiny bit to keep a loyal customer happy. I will never buy Magnavox again.
Concerns.......2007-05-01
I purchased this tv two weeks ago. The picture and sound are great for the price, but I do have two concerns:
1. It takes over a minute for the tv to turn on. Is this normal?
2. Twice the picture blacked out as if the tv shut off, but the power light was still on. I had to shut the tv off and turn it back on to restore the picture. I'll be placing a call to tech support on this one. Stay tuned.
Station tuning via antenna.......2007-03-30
I've had 2 problems. First, in station setup via antenna with rotor, the auto program acquires and stores all signals from the primary antenna direction, but only some stations at a different direction. There seems to be no way to add additional channels after the initial setup when moving the antenna to point in a different direction. Although in the installation menu there is an item for "weak signal installation", it seems to have no effect. So, if you are somewhere in between two cities, you pretty much have to pick "either-or". You cannot simply dial in a digital channel number, such as 7.1 to get a signal which was not set up in the auto program; it just reverts to analog channel 7. I called Magnavox with the problem, but they were unresponsive. I checked other brands at a local retailer, and they seemed to have a capability to add channels, but this Magnavox model does not.
My second problem has been that after all the signals have been programmed in, several days later, digital channel 64.1 disappeared from the preferred channel list. I re did the auto program, and after several more days, that channel had disappeared again. This happened a third time. Once again I called Magnavox, and was totally blown off. They insisted that it was just that the station signal was too weak, which is not the case at all. Something seems to be failing within the set, which they don't want to admit to. Perhaps stalling me until my warranty expires.
Other than the above, the picture and sound are excellent.

Over-priced and Under capable.......2007-03-28
We spent about a year remodeling our place and researching the whole house music system so that we could have music in each room. We finally settled on the MDS-6a - it was a major decision - $1,100 is a lot of money.
When you get the system, it comes with a small (and I do mean small) manual with oversize print and oversize pictures. We are pretty tech savy - but it was no fun deciphering the manual. Going onto Channel Plus' website (the maker) was no help.
Finally, we got it hooked up...and no music. We then tried wiring it a couple of different ways - different from the manual - and now we have music. Okay, frustration over.
Okay, time to change the channel on the satellite radio. We thought the keypads could do something simple like change the channel on the satellite radio. I mean, come on, the system came with IR transmitters and cost over a grand. Nope - can't do it. The keypads WILL pass through the commands from our one satellite radio remote - but the keypads that we wired and installed in every room...well, Channel Plus tech support said that if we'd bought the system with the "2A" keypads we'd be able to control the radio....
Well, learn from our mistake. There's just not enough info presented on Amazon's website to make an intelligent decision about buying this equipment. We think that there must be a cheaper and better way to have music throughout the house - seeing as how the keypads can't even change the channel...

This Amp kicks ass!!!.......2006-02-12
Bought this Amp a few months ago. Hook up is easy...If you can run wires(Cat-5 and speaker) from the Amp to the area you want sound(Zone). All the rest is easy. Another concern I had was that the 40 Watts per speaker would not be loud enough. Let me tell you this is not the case. It's not AC/DC in concert loud, but it's loud. One more thing, get the 2-gang control panels. The 2-gang panels allow you to change CD's, tracks, AM/FM stations, and any other function that the source(CD, AM/FM player)player remote can do. In other words the control panels can learn from the remote.
