5 out of 5 stars Best bang for the buck!.......2007-12-25

Great sounding headphones and very comfortable. Bought these to replace my Sony V6's of 10 years (broken due to my nephew sitting on them), which were still in great shape. So, $150 was my maximum amount that I was willing to spend on a pair of headphones for home, since I already have my pair of Shure e5's for when I'm out-and-about. I decided on these after reading a whole bunch of reviews and after trying out several headphones (Sony V6's/MDR-V900's, Sennheiser HD-280's, Bose Triports), but the K240 stood out as the clear winner for me, even next to the more expensive K271's. The headphones are extremely comfortable and were made even more so when I added a set of Nice Cans headphone covers (the stock pleather ones got a little sweaty and sticky when I wore them for more than an hour). The suspension system is pure genius taking the weight and tension off the ears and putting it on the top of my head, even after wearing for 4 or more hours. Also, if the cord ever get's destroyed or develops a short, it can be replaced by unplugging the existing one and putting a new one on. As a matter of fact, each individual part can be bought from AKG and replaced if one wears out (which I highly doubt). All in all, after a month of use, these have completely left the V6's in the history books. As time goes on and the drivers loosen up even more, the sound gets better and better! They do need a little time to sound as good as their potential, like my Shure's, so have a little patience. I would recommend these phones to anyone, especially if using an ipod or any other low power audio device. Great phones and enjoy!

4 out of 5 stars All about comfort!!.......2007-11-22

These headphones are extremely comfterable after hours of use, even if you wear glasses like I do. After watching movies for 5 hours, I forget I even have them on.

Another big thing I was worried about with the semi-open design was that it might leak out to much sound, and be annoying to my roomates. In a small, quiet room, if I turn them up really loud, my roomates can hear them a little. But with "normal" listening volume, they did not hear anything! This is great for people who don't want to disturb anyone.

The sound is realy something you fall in love with the more you listen to them. The quality is so clear, I can now hear parts of songs I never knew exsisted! Listening to orchastrel pieces, it really comes alive as I can now hear every finite detail of complecated pieces. Intially I thought the bass was lacking, but I find it is actually just more true to what it really sounds like. I actually find using a flat EQ produces the best sound, but if you like more bass, just change your EQ to bassbosster and it will provide very clear, strong bass.

They only reason I didn't give it a 5 star rating was because when I first got them the left side wasn't working. I played around with it a little, and it started to work again, but I'm afraid it could be a problem in the future. So far this has not been the case, but many people seem to have this problem, so I would use care with the phones.
Overall they are the perfect headphone, and highly recomended.

5 out of 5 stars Good Build Quality and Open-Air Style Maximizes Sound.......2007-11-16

I have four pair of headphones costing between 20-50 dollars, including such brands as Sennheiser, Logitech, Sony, and Eton. They're all capable headphones but they're Closed-Back style, which, while keeping external sound out, is also harder on the ears and which, I've read, compromises sound. So for my ear safety and for a bigger sound, I opted for the AKG K24. Here's what I like: Good build quality, comfortable large ear gel ear cups, microjack fits in iPod without needing an adapter (true of all my other headphones). The sound is good, great even, but I wouldn't go so far to say they produce the "wow factor." However, be aware of the fact that I don't pump up the volume very loud because I don't want to blast my eardrums. Are they worth the price? That's a subjective question. For many who want to spend less on an Open-Ear headphone without compromising sound, I think most will be happy with the 20-dollar Audio-Technica ATH-MZX Open-Ear headphones.

5 out of 5 stars Great!.......2007-11-07

I really love these, I use them for everything from editing music to playing Half Life 2, they have great response through all the ranges, even good bass, which is abnormal for Studio phones, but nice! 2 of the best features of these are the self adjusting headband (makes them very comfortable), and the removable cord (allowing you to upgrade your cord, get a curly cord, or a higher grade cable). I don't get sweaty ears wearing these, which is what I usually hate when vinyl covered ear pads, and they are comfortable enough to wear for long periods of time without taking them off-I've had them on for 6 hours or more some times. the cord is nice and nice, overall these were exactly what I was looking for in my headphone purchase.

3 out of 5 stars tough to beat at the price.......2007-10-30

These are the phones to buy for 95 bucks. They shine thru the midrange and have a rolled off treble to deal with today's harsh recordings. However, the bass will distort if you turn them up with heavy rock. The circular earcups actually grab my ears on the extremities even though I have small ears. Otherwise, they are comfortable. These are better than Sonys of equivalent price, but if you want the bass to come thru at high volume and a more open and refined sound overall I would recommend the 60 dollar stretch to discounted Sennheiser HD580s.

4 out of 5 stars delicious sound.......2007-09-21

these headphones deliver increadible sound at a professional level for a decent price. The only negative feature is that they are a bit to springy creating long wearing discomfort but still they are amazing

5 out of 5 stars Still Dreaming for Perfect iPod Headphones.......2006-07-29

I'm not an audiophile like the other reviewers of these headphones, so I won't dispute their claims or contest their ratings. However, if you are considering the AKG K240M for use with an iPod, dream on. Although I also have the wonderful, lightweight, collapsable Sennheiser PX 100 and am very pleased with their sound with my iPod Video, I had hoped to get even better sound with the AKGs. Unfortunately, even at full volume, the iPod cannot drive these headphones; same result using iTunes. I guess the problem is the 600 Ohm impedance which I did not notice before I purchased them. I probably should have bought the Sennheiser HD-280. If any of you audiophiles can suggest the perfect iPod phones in the $100 range, I'd love to hear from you at phones at kensall dot com. Thanks!

5 out of 5 stars Quality Audio Reproduction Redefined.......2006-07-20

I use AKG 240 headphones daily at work for editing digital audio. They are incredible. I don't know what else needs to be said. Previously, my standard for judging headphone quality was the Bose Tri-port or Quiet Comfort headsets. Not any longer.

On paper, the reproduction range is way beyond the 20 Hz - 20,000 KHz that is considered within the range of normal hearing. Rather than being overkill, I believe this is why these headphones sound so outstanding. With this dynamic range, the headphone reproduces the subtle harmonics that are lost by other headphones.

These are not noise canceling, so you will need a quieter environment to appreciate the sound. This does not mean you need an isolation booth for maximum enjoyment, but they are a poor choice for wearing on your daily commute. These are working headphones. They are comfortable enough to be worn for hours at a time while editing audio in a studio or office environment. They are also responsive enough you do not need to crank up the volume to hear nice bass or subtle tones. Your coworkers will appreciate the lack of noise bleed from the headphones. With an adapter to a mini-jack, you could even use these at work for non-editing purposes.

They are fairly priced for the quality they deliver. In fact, I consider them an outstanding value capable of being compared to exotic headphones costing many times more. They even surpass the audio quality of many high-end speaker systems. If the sound you hear is not good, it's in the recording, not the reproduction.

5 out of 5 stars Dreamy Music Bliss - K240.......2006-04-19

Clear crisp notes dipped in acoustic perfection. Listening to music on the AKG Acoustics Semi-Open Headphones is like falling in love for the first time. You may start to feel breathless as notes wash across soundscapes unveiled in moments of sheer amazement.

What beauty these headphones reveal. Every note is placed perfectly in a musical clarity revealing a perfect harmony and depth as sound swells and breaks and takes off in all directions like universes of sound.

This is not an exaggeration, but rather an admission of fact. Let's just say that if a friend gave you these, you would love them forever.

If headphones can make you feel weak in the knees...THESE WILL. The AKG headphones are also surprisingly comfortable and lightweight.

My personal favorite - K240 - Studio quality sound - Advanced Varimotion transducers -superior sound detail and especially high sensitivity

K271 - Studio quality with ambient noise isolation

K301 - Powerful bass and specially tuned drivers - circumaural ear cups

In some sort of dreamy music land from which I don't want to return...

5 out of 5 stars Excellent natural sound at a very reasonable price.......2006-01-12

I bought my first K 240 M in early 1986 for my sound studio connected to a music conservatory. These phones impressed all who used them.
In 2005 I ordered a new pair and was very pleased to find that only the phone plug has been changed. There was no change in sound.

Obtaining replacement parts has now become difficult. Whats more, this model has been replaced with the 240 S studio monitor. The sound is no longer the same.

The good news is that although the sound is different, it is clearly better. Bass response is now full down to at least 40 Hz and possibly lower. midrange is slightly boosted, which I got used to quite quickly.

The bad news is the addition of a connector that is not well designed, as it sticks out away from the phones in such a way that it could be damaged if the phones are dropped. If you handle them gently this should not be a problem.

Finally, In my opinion, these phones outperform all speaker systems on operatic voices. I never judge any vocal recording,or a singers voice, without using these phones. Although the new model does not sound quite the same, the spacial sense is the same. The ear pads are identical and interchangeble with the 240 M, hence the feel is the same.

    Amazon.com Review

It's no longer just enough to enjoy TV programming or access your PC with a crisp, clear, flat-panel LCD screen. Taiwanese television manufacturer Hannspree believes that the time has come to integrate this display technology not only into your home, but your lifestyle as well. To that end, they've come up with a wide variety of creative, playful design concepts--from a cello-like body to a Los Angeles Lakers-colored "jersey"--that buck the standard LCD TV/display motif of a screen surrounded by a gray or silver plastic housing. Style is well and good, but that shouldn't be the sole reason to purchase an LCD display. Happily, the Hannspree MLB Astros Sandlot 15" LCD TV's bright display and incorporated features make it worth considering the extra price.

(Reviewer's Note: We tested the 15-inch Vaas model, the aforementioned cello-shaped model with a faux wood-grained plastic cabinet and speakers integrated into the concave side, which we found to be quite easy on the eyes. That said, its video and audio functionality is essentially the same as this 15-inch Hannspree model.)

The Hannspree provides a composite A/V input for RCA plugs as well as a standard RF input for connecting cable or an antenna for access to TV programming. It also has a secondary A/V input that works with the unique 4-in-1 cable, which collects the three RCA A/V plugs plus an S-Video jack on one end and connects it to the Hannspree with a single jack on the other. (A note of caution: Take care to not force the 4-in-1 jack into the TV, as the pins tended to bend easily if they didn't make direct contact with their connection. This was easily fixed with some tweezers, but you should still use some finesse.) It comes with three female/female RCA adapters, enabling you to connect another RCA cable's male ends directly into the Hannspree's 4-in-1 cable.

The screen is quite bright--500 candela per square meter (cd/m2)--and it's coupled with a similar 500:1 contrast ratio, enabling color to pop quite nicely. It also offers a 16 millisecond (ms) screen response time, which makes this display able to keep up with quick-moving objects from TV programming and DVD movies without getting all jaggy. At 15 inches, the Hannspree offers a good picture size for standard, 4:3 aspect ratio TV programming and it's a fine size for use in a smaller room. However, for watching DVD movies in widescreen mode, it's best to have the screen closer to you, as we did with the Hannspree set up on our bedside table--perfect for late-night viewing of Firefly.

But where the Hannspree really shone was as a multi-functional home office audio/video center, enabling us to switch from PC (using the VGA port) to cable TV viewing without missing a beat. It also helped to eliminate some of the clutter from our desk, as the unit's built-in speakers allowed us to eliminate our PC's external speakers. Sound via the Hannspree's speakers was quite good, especially with the SRS WOW virtual surround sound selected. The Hannspree also includes a line-out audio connection, enabling you to connect to a 2.1- or 5.1-channel powered surround sound speaker system.

We were initially stymied on how to utilize the Hannspree's speaker system in conjunction with it's PC monitor capabilities. Connecting to the RCA audio-in jacks via a 1/8-inch mini stereo jack from your PC won't work as the AV1 source has to be selected; the same goes for using the 4-in-1 A/V cable, which uses the AV2 source. (The 1/8-inch jack size is what you'll find on a headphone jack, and this is also the size used for audio-out connections on desktops and laptops.) However, the answer was staring us right in the face--the Hannspree has a line-in audio connection, which is easily handled with an optional mini-to-mini cable. However, if you don't have one of these, you can use two mini-to-RCA cables, connecting them with the included RCA adapters.

The remote control that came with our Vaas review model was Hannspree's generic model, which offers mastery over only the Hannspree TV and no options for other A/V components. Other models come with different designs, some specific to the TV's design, but all offer the same basic controls, including a button to directly access V-chip parental controls. It also offers a button marked Auto, which will automatically adjust the screen parameters to the Hannspree's internal settings from non-standard settings activated from your PC.

Overall, we were thoroughly impressed with the Hannspree's video and audio capabilities. At 15 inches, it certainly won't replace your main television, but it's a good addition to an office or bedroom. Plus, its singular design added a personalized touch that is rarely apparent in typical LCD TV/displays. --Agen G.N. Schmitz Pros:

    Amazon.com Product Description

Enter your own stadium every time you switch on a Houston Astros game with this uniquely designed 15-inch LCD TV, which is enclosed in a cabinet that resembles a domed stadium--complete with baseball diamond-patterned control buttons. It features a rubber-bottomed stand, Astros accent colors along the side, and official team and MLB logos. It offers a standard NTSC television tuner and such features as V-chip parental controls and closed captioning, and it can double as a PC monitor.

This state-of-the-art LCD TV offers consistent color tone, clear contrast values, and natural, life-like details. The 15-inch screen has an 1024 by 768-pixel resolution, 4:3 aspect ratio (fine for standard TV transmissions and pan-and-scan video), and a 150-degree horizontal viewing angle. The screen has a very fast 16 millisecond (ms) response time (important for fast-moving sports programming), brightness rating of 500 cd/m2 (candela per square meter), and a 500:1 contrast ratio. (The higher the contrast ratio, the greater a TV's ability to display subtle color details and not get washed out by ambient room light.)

The 3D Y/C digital comb filter analyzes consecutive scanning lines within a field as well as the preceding and following fields. This results in improved detail and color purity, a more stable video image, and nearly eliminating dot crawl and color bleeding. Other features include DCDi (Directional Correlation Deinterlacing) digital enhancement for improvement of low-resolution images, highly accurate 10-bit video processing, and ADC and gamma correction technologies. The screen has an estimated lamp life of 50,000 hours, which translates to over 20 years with six hours of usage per day.

This TV has a pair of built-in stereo speakers that produce 2 watts per channel (4 watts total) and is compatible with SRS WOW virtual surround sound. It includes a 4-in-one video input--which accepts S-Video and RCA A/V connections--as well as a regular A/V input and RF input, enabling you to easily hook up a DVD player or VCR. Additionally, this set includes a D-Sub 15-pin input for connecting to a PC, enabling you to use this set as a computer display. It also provides a headphone jack for private viewing. It comes with an easily gripped, contoured remote control.
