The ZonePlayer 100
The ZP100 brings great-sounding music to any and every room in your house, regardless of where your music collection is stored. That's because the ZP100, with its built-in amplifier, communicates wirelessly with your PC or Mac and sends the music directly to any connected pair of speakers. You can even play the same song in different rooms or different songs in different rooms.
With 50 watts per channel of power and a guaranteed total harmonic distortion of less than 0.02 percent, you can count on superior audio quality playback--without hisses, crackles, or hums. The first ZP100 connects to your broadband router, but you have total freedom with each additional ZonePlayer. Sonos Digital Music servers........2007-08-10
I think it all started in 2004 with I tried out the Linksys Streaming media player. I had hight hopes for this player but I was severely disappointed with it. Firstly it would not find my music on my computer. I ended up spending 2 hours on the phone with tech support (India) and we still did not get the problem resolved. The next day I spent the entire day trying to get it to work, and I finally did. I really hated the stream quality and it kept dropping my stream. I ended up returning it on the second day. My next attempt to get streaming music was with the Airport express. I worked great but I really hated leaving my computer on and iTunes open just to enjoy the music. A computer is too big of a remote in my opinion. I got rid of the airport express after a month of using it. My next venture was with the Roku soundbridge M1001. It worked great and I love the fact that I had a dedicated remote for it. This system also meant that I had to keep iTunes running and it didn't have many of the advance features that I craved. I used this player for about two weeks before selling it and going for Slim Devices Squeezebox3. The Squeezebox was great. It had all the advance features that I was looking for. The only problem was the fact that the web interface was too slow and when I moved my iTunes music to a dedicated NAS, slimserver did not like my iTunes playlists. I spend years creating the iTunes playlists and I wasn't about to recreate them simply to suit slimserver. Finally, the Sonos music system. I visited SoundAdvice and I saw it and I played with it for about 20 minutes and I fell in love with it. Although it was very expensive, I like the remote and the fact that you can use it in multiple zones and control all the zones with one remote. I bought the Sonos the same week when I evaluated it. I received it hooked it up and it was running in 20 minutes, and you know what, it recognized my iTunes playlists even on the dedicated NAS (Infrant) device. I am enjoying music in a whole new way. Several months ago I frowned on Rhapsody. That frown is now upside down. Sonos made me fall in love with Rhapsody. The Sonos system also plays XM radio channels and I use it to tune in to radio stations from the Caribbean. I really hated doing this with the Squeezebox. Sonos made this process so simple. The one thing that made me love Rhapsody over other music service is the fact that I can listen to all the Caribbean music that I could not find here in the States. I am now a subscriber to Rhapsody. If anyone is hesitant about Sonos, I would tell them try it, you will not be disappointed. I am certainly not, and I have tried everything out there. Sonos is the absolute best out there right now especially for the price.
My favorite electronic toy. Unleash your music........2007-06-11
I have my entire music collection on my server, I would carry my laptop around and share Itunes throughout the house. IT was annoying to say the least, ANY ipod is really to small to hold my music collection. So I started looking for an easy way to listen to my music anywhere on my house on demand, seemed like a tall order until my cousin The Goon, turned my on to this unbelievable peice of hardware.
I could not believe how easy this was to set up. Inside of 7 minutes I was up and running playing music. (I had outdoor speakers setup, I just removed the amp and replaced it with this) Streaming my MP3's and Rhapsody is a snap. I have two zones set up and when I have a lot of people over I link the zones and its awesome, you hear the music everywhere. The controller has to be seen to be believed, its so wonderful, the best of an ipod with an awesome lcd screen... They keep improving the software, the addition of Pandora is really cool, although Im not sure I will pay for the service, I do like the option of having it. All I want now is to stream XM or Sirius... and it would be the PERFECT device. ITs damn close as it is...
They should include the cradle, as its really essential.
Sonos - simple and sweet.......2007-05-13
I am a music nut, I listen in my home, in my car, in my office. But until recently my choices for "full home audio" was limited to a few expensive choices or cranking the volume up in one room so I could hear it in other rooms. After reading reviews on the Sonos system in several different publications, I decided to give it a try. I purchased two bundles, one ZP100 bundle, one ZP80 bundle.
Setting up the four zone system took under 30 minutes. The most difficult part was moving a large piece of furniture. Other than that, it was the simplest "tech" experience I have had to date! After installing the software and connecting the first ZP80 to my network switch, the other three zones were up and running in five minutes. Sonos found my music files without a problem.
Nothing beats coming home, picking up the controller and firing up music throughout the entire house A great way to unwind and/or provide ambiance music. I was able to quickly add a few local radio stations that stream online as well as discover a couple of Internet only stations. I am currently trying out the free 30-day Rhapsody trial. It is a great way to rediscover long-forgotten songs and new artists as well!
I like the Sonos system so much that my new house, currently under construction, will include an 8-zone system. Nothing speaks louder than repeat business!
Sonos Customer Service is Amazing.......2007-02-02
I own two of these and have ordered a third, so I'll have six units and three controllers, putting music and convenience throughout the house. The system works beautifully, and it's very easy to set up. (Seriously... unpacking the box and hooking the speakers up to it is the hardest part. A child could easily set this up and use it.) The sound is great, and the connection is great. Internet radio sounds better through the Sonos than from your computer, with no buffering time or lags. And of course your mp3s sound great too.
Mostly, though, I'm taking the time to write this to praise Sonos customer service. I had a small problem with one of the controllers and emailed them about it. They immediately responded and gave me a phone number to call. Literally 15 hours after I got off the phone with them, I had a brand new controller in my hand. They shipped it to me overnight (at their expense, of course).
I loved my Sonos system before, but thanks to great customer service on top of a great product, now I'm a Sonos fan for life.
