One-third slimmer and less than half the weight of a comparably-sized CRT-based projection model, this LCD set features a high output light source, advanced prism system, and a three-panel 720p LCD Light Engine with an 11-element lens system to produce an exceptionally bright, sharp picture. Improvements along the light path include special filters and polarizers that ensure brighter whites and darker blacks. Its industrial design features minimal bottom speakers to create an ultra-sleek form factor as well as a silver and black finish for a striking modern look.
You'll enjoy 480p, 720p and 1080i high-definition viewing right out of the box thanks to the built-in digital ATSC tuner, which pulls HD signals right from the airwaves. This set performs 3:2 pulldown detection and reversal, too--a handy feature for watching progressive-scan movie programs in their native 24-frame format. To adapt 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video, frames in the original movie must be duplicated; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this duplication by removing the redundant information to display a frame-accurate picture. A 3D Y/C comb filter (4 MB) further enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt). Rounding out the features is an anti-reflective diffusion screen, multiple color temperatures, black enhancement, three HD aspect modes, six SD aspect modes, and split screen/picture-in-picture capability.
A separate Day and Night Memory for each input ensures the optimum picture quality during the daytime or nighttime for each source. Simply press the Day/Night button on the remote or use the automatic timer to switch between bright daytime settings and high-fidelity nighttime settings. Other convenience features include a sleep timer, closed caption decoding, tri-lingual on-screen display (English, French, Spanish), and V-Chip parental controls.

HDMI is a lossless, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface to link any audio/video source (such as a set-top box, DVD player, or AV receiver) with your TV--all over a single cable. It provides up to a 5 GB per second bandwidth for transmitting pure digital video and audio signals with no degradation in the transfer. It can carry up to eight discrete audio channels, making it compatible with 7.1-channel surround sound systems. Signals are encrypted with HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) to prevent recording. HDMI is fully backward-compatible with most DVI connections .
Component video (also called Y/Pb/Pr) features a three-jack video input, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections. You will need a separate RCA left/right audio cable for sound.
