Broke within 7 months of purchase.......2007-12-05

Item broke within 7 months of purchase. The TV abruptly dies within seconds of turning on. Upon calling Vizio, they offered not to replace the TV but to replace a part. Vizio then told me that I should expect to hear the status of the replacement part in 7 to 10 business days, but if not, here's another phone number you should try. I do not recommend.

Great Picture + Great Price = Great TV! 1080p.......2007-11-27

We have had this TV for a couple months now and couldn't be happier. We purchased it because it was $1000 less than the one we really wanted and yet, looking at them side by side, the pictures were very, very comparable. So far we have not had any problems with any hissing or crackling or power issues. I have never noticed it over-heating at all. The picture quality is amazing with BlueRay. Very sharp, clear, and beautiful color. We highly recommend this tv over the pricier ones.

The above poster's review is somewhat misleading since the GV42LF 1080P is NOT sold in Costco. The Costco unit being sold is the VU42LF. There are minor differences in the style, the GV offers both a detachable stand as well as detachable speakers. The speakers are NOT detachable on the VU unit. The more important differences are the resolution outputs on the tv. Just google for the differences.

Alas, Vizio does not make great quality tv's. I want to love this unit but can't! My unit is only 1 month old and it's given me 2 headaches. The 1st time, the unit would not turn off via any remote input or the power button on the side of the unit. I had to physically pull the plug and plug it back. I tested the remotes after pulling the plug and the tv worked fine. Maybe a heat related issue? I had only been watching tv for 3 hours when this happened.

The 2nd time, I barely had the tv on for 30 seconds, when the tv made a large buzzing, hissing, clicking, zapping sound as if the tv was ready to explode and I noticed I had the same problem turning of the tv as the 1st time which I've mentioned above. I had to pull the plug again to turn off the tv. I waited a minute or 2 and then turned the tv back on and noticed that it seemed fine. I say it SEEMED fine as the top half of the tv now looks lighter while the bottom half of the tv seems darker. I have the DCR off and the backlight set at 0 so I don't understand why this would be. I also have slight bleeding in all 4 corners (and this is with the backlight at 0). The backlight is defaulted at 90 and this is why too bright as the backlight bleeds into the colors when watching anything.

Fortunately, not only am I under warranty still (if I could take it back, I would for a new unit before giving up on it totally) but I also made sure to purchase a 3 year extended warranty from [...].

If you purchase this unit, be sure to purchase an extended warranty as you will most likely need it. Vizio is still a great bang for the buck but be mindful that the quality of the unit is still far from even being considered "decent."

The black level is also not true. It is a very dark charcoal grey and not a true deep wet black but I am okay with the color level for the price I paid for the unit. <-- This is an important thing to consider because if you are looking for the truest and deepest colors then you will need to be willing to pay the extra cost to go with Samsung, Panasonic, Sharp, Pioneer.

Also, check out the TX series Westy's because I just saw a 42" TX Westinghouse at worstbuy and it looked much mucH muCH mUCH MUCH better than the Vizio GV42LF! I think it was only $[...] more than the Vizio which seems reasonable to me!

Again, I'm keeping my unit and will be documenting all issues/problems so I can have the tech fix/address/resolve these issues (that's why I paid for the extra warranty!). Also be aware that Vizio (for whatever reason) does not seem to be really keen on putting out firmware updates. Firmware updates would fix some of these minor issues but they don't seem intent on releasing any. <--This is an indication of what their customer support is like.

I'll update to see if this tv maybe gets better within a couple of months -- I have heard that some tv's have cloudiness that goes away or gets better with more usage. Maybe these problems will go away the longer I use this tv. One can only hope!

TV WITH LOTS OF PROBLEMS.......2007-08-23

I bought this tv from costco. As i started watching tv I was very happy with the picture quality. Unfortunately when I turned off the tv and it wouldnt stop clicking. I got tired of the clicking noise coming from the back of the tv and returned it for another one. I set up the new one and was happy that there was no clicking. Then I lost the sound. I looked in the back and the sound cables had come unplugged. I plugged them back in but they kept sliding out.I tried the cables on another tv and the cables were fine. I had to return the tv AGAIN.
