Sadly, this well designed item doesn't work for me. It comes detached from its clip while I'm exercising and plunges to the floor dragging my headphones off.

This is a great product. I don't really use the belt clip part, but the case protects my ipod well. I only wish there was something to cover the screen and maybe the wheel too.

Soft and flexible, it's easy to get on and off your Nano, should you need to. I haven't taken mine out of the skin since I got it. Fits with no trouble in my speaker dock. Feels nice to touch, too -- and it doesn't grab dirt or lint. Not very bulky, either. I did get separate protectors, the clear stick-on things, for the wheel and the screen; this doesn't protect those.
It doesn't offer good access to the hold button, but I've never actually USED the hold button so it doesn't bother me.
The clip arrangement is not great. You have a screw that goes into a reinforced area on the back of the skin, and a hard, clear plastic clip is supposed to lock onto the head of the screw. Getting the clip onto the screw head has proven impossible for me, and if you leave the screw in the back of the skin, it won't lie flat should you want it to. Take the screw out, there's no good place to keep it. Fortunately this comes with a lanyard, and that's what I use -- just sling it around my neck when I'm going to or leaving my car.
I got the... uh, the brownish colored one; it looks fine on a silver Nano. If you've got a colorful player, don't expect to see it unless you leave it naked or put it in hard, clear plastic.
A Pretty Good Product.......2007-01-06
I got this on christmas for my red ipod nano. It offers good protection for your ipod, but there were a few problems with this case. For one, it distorts the color of my red ipod, making it more orange than red. Also, the skin doesn't quite match up with the ipod. the hold button is extremely difficult to use because of this. Nevertheless, I thought this was a pretty good skin, but you could probably buy better.

I Like It!.......2007-09-21
After reading some of the reviews about this product, I was not expecting much. In fact, I was prepared to be disappointed. But, after charging it up and employing it in a variety of situations, I was pleasantly surprised at how clear the sound was and how relatively easy the controls were to operate. I am not a professional sound engineer, but for my purposes, the sound was very clear using just the included mic. When I hooked it up to a professional grade mic, the sound quality was even better. I did not find the controls hard to use like some of the reviewers did. They seemed very easy to understand and intuitive in their design. The one thing I did agree with was how unbelievably UNHELPFUL the manual was. It doesn't tell the operator how to do anything worthwhile, including something as basic as turning it on or off or inserting or removing the memory card. I am waiting for my Edirol to arrive so that I can compare the two, but so far, I like the Microtrack.
Very sophisticated....but.......2007-09-01
Very sophisticated....but I could not get the battery to hold a charge. After a full charge and just having it set on my desk in the "off" position, power would be drained in 36 hours.
M-Audio support was helpful and got my firmware upgraded but the problem was not solved. I love the little unit and all of its features but returned it because of the power issue.
The carry case is a joke. It is such an expensive and nice unit, something more than a pouch should be supplied. There is no place to put the stereo microphone.

I have used this unit for everything from wild recording of rehearsals or song ideas to studio recording of drum overheads. I find it to be the most useful, dependable and easy-to-use device I own.
I read reviews knoocking its sonic qualities and I have to strongly disagree.
It definitely has a sonic signature, like pretty much every device I put in the signal path (!) but I find its signature a very musical and pleasing one. Whatever compression algorithm they're using - I like it!
It is most definitely the best portable recorder I have ever used - sonically, ease of use, small size, battery life and ease of re-charging.
NOTE: The HOLD switch MUST BE IN THE OFF POSITION for the unit to take a charge - idiosyncratic but... there it is.
I would recommend this recorder to everyone and I wish all songwriters and every musician I work with owned one and used it to memorialize sessions and gigs.

This is a great product for recording live music! It's light, simple to use and understand and doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles (which is a good thing for me). If you want a device that can record, edit and playback easily, this is NOT it however. The playback functions are limited because there is one button that does it all. As far as I can tell at this point, there is no way to split tracks on the machine, making playback a bit cumbersome because you have to do a lot of fast fowarding. The button for doing this is tricky to use so it's easy to accidentally skip to the next song while you are fast forwarding. There may be a way to edit, but it's not obvious to me at this point.
BUT, if you just want a very portable and convenient way to record, this is a great deal. The stereo mic that comes with it sounds surprisingly good and the options as far as file format are a great feature. You can even to 24 BIT WAV, which sounds amazing!
