Xact XTR1.......2007-11-07
Unit failed after six hours of use and was returned for refund. Will not buy another.
AVOID.......2007-08-23
I have replaced this unit 3 times in 2 years. I have replaced the car kit 3 times in 2 years. I have replaced the home kit twice in 2 years. I would AVOID purchasing this company's products. The only reason I keep replacing parts is I don't want to invest in a new radio, home kit and car kit all over again. At some point I will.
It are work good.......2007-08-23

xtr1 Sirius receiver.......2007-08-23
The new one is working fine. The receiver that came with the radio failed in 2 yr. I'm not used to electronics failing that quickly so I would not buy another Xact product. I've had Teac, Sony, Dell etc products, u name it, and they have all lasted much longer than 2y.
Look elsewhere for Sirius hardware.......2007-08-05
I purchased this Xact XTR1 after my previous unit stopped working after 2 years use. The only reason I purchased a replacement XTR1 is I already have the car kits professionally installed in 2 cars and own the boom-box which would be useless without a replacement. I am gambling that Sirus hardware will improve if the XM merger is approved. Why?
Because Xact Communications makes poorly engineered crap! It is so inefficient that it becomes too hot to touch when operating. It does pull in the satellite signal adequately, but the panel is awkward and memory functions are not intuitive. The remote has volume controls that are only for show--they are not functional. That gives you a hint to the quality of the design.
I like Sirius programming, but I will NEVER buy anything made by Xact communications again!

Caution May be In Order........2006-02-12
I purchased this unit on December 31st (from another retailer). I wasn't sure I would like Sirius and with the rebate it came to only $8. By February 6th (around) I noticed that the unit would go back on when I turned it off. On February 1th the unit stopped turning on and ceased operating completely.
I use it only at home with the home kit that it came with. I bought The Inspire Creative T3000 speakers from Amazon to attach to the unit.
The speakers are fine (sound great when attached to my Mac) but the unit itself wasn't able to play many of the channels in stereo. The sound sounded a little tiny at times.
Also-the lack of numbers on the remote or unit makes it somewhat cumbersome to change channels. You need to move a cursor along a number line that is displayed on the screen of the unit.

Nice.......2007-05-19
Great for a first home stereo system, you can set each speaker and is easy to setup and use. You won't be able to Blow away your neighbors with it but it is decently loud.
Terrible .......2007-03-13
This machine was purchased from seller supposing to be NEW! It was not New but was sold as NEW to me and it worked for one movie then died. This machine was remanufactured but sold as NEW. That should be illegal. MISREPRESENTATION!

WOW!!!.......2006-04-16
You can't go wrong with this system.
I don't have anthing to compare this system to because this is my first system.
I recentley bought a projector and with this system I beleive its better than being at the movies.
I like the towers and being able to turn or move the speakers when ever I want.
I cant say enough on how much I like the sound from this system.Even with playing music I now here certain tones and back round sounds I've never heard before.ITS GREAT!!!
Entry-level surround sound.......2005-12-27
I would first like to clarify that I am not an audiophile, so I will not be reviewing the product from that perspective. Second, the reason I chose this model over others is the fact that it has tower speakers. The television's angle and the position of my sitting chair are unusual, so I needed the flexibility of putting the speakers anywhere around me without having to mount them awkwardly.
The first thing you'll notice when you open the box is that the speakers are in two parts, the base, and the top (the part that makes the sound). The lower half, the base, is made to look exactly like the top, so when you put them together by snapping them onto each other (which may take some doing) they blend quite nicely. Each whole tower is about 38" high. They stand pretty solidly, but they could tip over if happen to bump into one. If you want, you could always mount just the top half to the wall and avoid the base altogether. The option is available.
The sub-woofer is pretty thin. I found it a bit strange that the driver is located on the left side (if you look at it from the front). Nevertheless, it performs quite well. I can feel the floor shaking beneath my feet. That doesn't bode well for my neighbors though.
The receiver itself is pretty big, bigger than it looks in the picture. It barely fit on my entertainment center shelf, and it goes in deep ...very deep. The good thing is, the deepness allows for it to be thinner, so it looks good regardless. It has 2 optical inputs, 1 coaxial, several audio/video inputs, and all the speaker and sub-woofer outputs all built in.
I also would like to mention something no specification sheet or review usually includes...the length of the included cables with the system.
The power cable from the receiver is not that long, but it's the only power required (every other speaker and sub-woofer gets their power from the speaker cables), and it's not a huge beast of a brick either. It's just a 3-pronged jack.
The rear speaker cable length, which was of big concern to me, is about 15 -20' long, so I was able to go as far as I need to and still have some to spare for flexibility. The front speaker cables are about half as short. They're all made for spring clips, so they're very thin, and can go under a carpet without too much bulk.
A huge plus for the system is that everything, including the cables are color coded! Putting it together is a simple matter of determination. The only thing you have to be careful of is which speaker is the white-color-coded one and the gray-color-coded one. The colors are very similar and I had some problems distinguishing them from each other.
A gripe I have, and you knew it was coming, is that the remote is not very well designed. Switching digital audio inputs (optical and coaxial) involves several button presses, so it takes a little while, which can be an annoyance. There should have been dedicated buttons for each input. I now have quite a huge collection of remotes piled up on my table, and I've been considering getting a universal one.
The shortcomings of the remote is thankfully overshadowed by the performance of the system. Going from stereo to this is just amazing. The whole room comes alive with sound. It's easy to be startled by sounds coming from behind you when you play video games or when you hear music suddenly start to play from the rear speakers. And best of all, it's affordable.
