It practically installed itself and I was up and running within minutes. I have the host PC running Vista and the remote PC running XP. There were no compatibility issues. The speed on the remote PC was good enough to stream on-line videos. This costs more than wireless, but worth it because of the higher speed and stability. I guess the only thing that you need to ensure is that all locations you want to use it in are connected by the same network of electrical wires. I haven't had any issues, but I have read about other people who did.
Linksys PLK200 Powerline Ethernet Adapter - works Great.......2007-12-26
Setting up the two AV Powerline Ethernet adapters onto our home network was easy. The quickstart instructions were easy to follow to do the initial setup.
Our initial application was to connect one of the adapters to our main LAN hub in our home office "computer-room" and connecting the other adapter in our home-theater/game-room. Currently we connected our new Wii to the Ethernet adapter. The Wii is now able to download upgrades and access the Internet at 100 Mb/s.
I am now looking more closely at the adapter configuration software that was download onto one of our PCs during the installation process. I want to ensure that all the appropriate security measures are setup and it place. The software is having a little problem displaying perfectly on our Win2K system but not enough to prevent getting things setup as appropriate.
So if you need to extend your home network into other rooms of your house but still want/need a "wired" LAN solution, these AV Powerline Ethernet Adapters seem to work just fine providing LAN through the house AC wiring. We will be purchasing additional adapters to outfit other rooms in our house in the near future.

This really is just 'plug and play', even on 25 year old electrics it still gives lightning fast connection speeds. An excellent (working) alternative to the wi-fi adapter on the 360 which is susceptable to interference and struggles with hi-def TV.

I recently ordered and installed two of these kits.
On the plus side, they are "plug and play" and they have great through-put.
On the downside, one of my kits had an adapter which was DOA and had to be returned for an exchange. I just had another adaptor go bad that was in service for less than a month. I'm in the process of returning that one back to amazon for an exchange. *
Also on the downside, the instructions for setting up the security function (password) are not very clear.
* Update: Despite that Amazon's return policy for items purchased after 11/1 (I purchased this unit on 11/3) states you have up until 1/31/08 to make a return, someone at Amazon's Customer (dis)Service Center in India just sent me an email stating they would not accept my return because it's past the 30 day cut off. Not wanting to go round and round with Amazon, I contacted Linksys today to attempt to exchange my unit under the warranty. Of course their customer / technical service area is also in India, and I spent well over an 1 hour and a half on the phone with them just to get an RMA. I don't know who's customer service is worse, Amazon's or Linksys'!
