Linksys WRT600N Linksys Ultra RangePlus Dual-Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router with Storage Link

Product Description

The Dual-Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router is really four devices in one. There's the dual-band Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect to the network without wires. There's also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100/1000 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together at up to gigabit speeds. The Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection. There is also a Storage Link that lets you easily add gigabytes of storage space onto your network using readily available USB 2.0 hard drives or plug in a USB flash disk for a convenient way to access your portable data files. The built-in Media Server streams music, video, and photos from the attached storage device to any UPnP compatible media adapter. The Access Point built into the Router uses a dual-band version of the very latest wireless networking technology, Wireless-N (draft 802.11n). By overlaying the signals of multiple radios for each band, Wireless-N's Multiple In, Multiple Out (MIMO) technology multiplies the effective data rate. Unlike ordinary wireless networking technologies that are confused by signal reflections, MIMO actually uses these reflections to increase its range and reduce Dead Spots in the wireless coverage area. To help protect your data and privacy, the Router can encode all wireless transmissions with industrial-strength 256-bit encryption. Security features - WEP - WPA - WPA2 Security key bits - Up to 256-bit encryption System Requirements - Internet Explorer 6.0 or Firefox 1.0, CD-ROM drive, Windows 98 SE, ME, 2000, XP and Vista, and Network Adapter Dimensions - 7.48 x 5.71 x 7.01 (190x145x178mm) Weight - 1.51 pounds (683 grams)

1 out of 5 stars crashes.......2008-01-01

I have both Linkys WRT300N Linksys WRT300N Wireless-N Broadband Router and this WRT600N. Unlike 300N, this is a dual-band wireless router. Apparently, 5GHz does help in term of speed. 600N is about 50% faster than 300N, in 5GHz. The problem is, it crashes too often.

Every time, when I transfer a 700MB file, it crashes the router (about 500MB copied). I have to reconnect. WRT300N works much more reliable, although a bit slower.

4 out of 5 stars Linksys WRT600.......2007-12-28

The router works flawlessly after a very challenging set up adventure. The initial set up attempt was unsuccessful. I use the Vista Home Premium operating system. After 2 days of trying to configure the wireless set up using the Linksys provided configuration tool, I gave up. Wired set up was not a problem. After configuring the router for wireless operation with my laptop, the router recognized every wireless appliance on the network except for the laptop that I used to configure the router. I gave up after 2 days of unsuccessful attempts. Then I switched to the Windows Vista wireless configuration tool, and I was up and running in less than 5 minutes.

5 out of 5 stars Performs as advertised, but ..........2007-12-22

I purchased this item for two reasons- improved range and security. It performs as advertised. The instructions are straightforward and written for both the average and advanced users - your choice as to how. Setup was easy, advanced settings went smoothly but... I lost wireless access for a MAC and MAC laptop to connect. Nowhere was this stated either in the instructions (after the fact, yes) or in the reviews. This can be circumvented if you choose to use ethernet cables but doesn't that defeat the purpose? All worked out well - my MAC user can conveniently "borrow" internet access from a friendly neighbor's unsecured router ( an older linksys).

1 out of 5 stars Where is the dual-band mode?.......2007-12-12

Very flaky router. I could not get it to work consistently (lots of dropped connections, redundant rescanning, etc..) without turning off one of the bands. Works wells now after many wasted days playing with the router configuration for the best operation. Works well in the N band only mode (turn off dual-band). This kind of defeats the purpose of purchasing this unit.

5 out of 5 stars Linksys SUPER Router WRT600N.......2007-12-03

I've had this router for about a month now. It replaced a low cost G Router that constantly lost connection with our DSL Modem. So far, the WRT600N has been rock-solid, never losing its connection to the modem. Even though we haven't invested in the N network cards for our laptops, we're getting great connections throughout our 3700 Sq Ft house. It's not cheap, but so far, it's worth every penny.

4 out of 5 stars Good cellphone!!!.......2007-12-20

I've had the Razor V3xx for about two weeks now. Now I'm a techie, but just because I'm a techie, not all of my toys have to be the "new hardware/software." I didn't buy into the Razor fad when it first came out. I've always been a Nokia fan. Plus I've had the Sony Ericsson w300i. I didn't care too much for Motorola. My mom has a Motorola, but it's a different style. So far her's works great. She's not technically inclined, but she gets by.
Now I don't need my cellphone to be a music player because I have the discontinued 30GB iPod (which I've dropped like three times on concrete and still plays!!!) I don't need to surf the web on it because I value screen size and besides I don't want to pay the extra money to surf the web when I have a laptop. I mainly use it just as a cellphone, but I like style.
I have some friends and coworkers who have the Razor (some have the V3xx and others have prior versions). I asked them about how's the reception, can they hear clearly when people are talking, can people they're talking to hear them clearly, and battery life. I've been on edge because of the prior slim designs, but this is a bit heavier. It feels durable and feels good. I've debated between this one and two Nokia versions (with AT&T, the 6555 and the upgraded version of the 6102).
So far I've been happy with the reception, volume, and battery life. I use it daily and near traffic. In all places, inside a store, next to the road with heavy traffic, inside a noisy bus and have been happy with the way it works. I heard them clearly and they heard me. I haven't had to say, "What was that?" yet.
If you value, programs/software on a cellphone, this is probably not what you're looking for (go for Nokia, as far as I know). If you want a cellphone and have it to be stylish, then yes this cellphone is for you. It's better than previous version of the Razor.
BTW, I wouldn't choose the iPhone. Don't go with the flow!!

3 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware...........2007-10-11

So i got this phone for my sister as a replacement for her previous phone which was an old V3. I do love the styling of this phone and it has a very sturdy feel when compared to other phones in its price range. The flip opens very fluidly and I love the casing. However, thats where everything ends. I mean motorola has this beautiful screen and uses the UGLIEST interface I've ever seen.
Honestly, if you were one of those people who bought into the Razr fad and seem to continue to buy more just out of habit, i really recommend going to your local AT&T first.
In the cell phone market and I'm talking internationally. There are two leaders in terms of quality and design and those are Nokia and Sony Ericsson (SE). You might look at their phones and think that they have a cheaper feel to them or just seem to simple. But its not the outsides that set them apart. Its the insides. What I've always hated about motorola is that it seems like while they update the hardware from time to time, they still use the SAME useless unintuitive software they came out with like 5 years ago. I have been a loyal consumer of SE and if you take a phone from 5 years ago and compare it to one out now, you will notice more fluidity in the menus, faster shortcuts, a more intuitive system. The same goes with nokia, which used to have a simple interface but now has buffed up there menu system to compete aesthetically. I really recommend trying both phones and seeing how quickly there menus work compared to Motorola. I've lived outside of the country for 3 years and SE and Nokia always lead the market. Samsung solely relies on making their phones thinner then everyone elses and motorola is just banking on this "High fashion" razr/krzr/slvr styling. Yet I see them as the dominant phones in the US market! CHECK OUT SE and NOKIA before settling on simple style. Once you make the switch to either, you wont want to go back.

4 out of 5 stars nice phone indeed.......2007-09-21

This is a nice phone. I upgraded from an old Nokia and like this one more. I was trying to locate the sensor mentioned in the other review but can't find it, even with the help of manual. The only red dot is the camera :)
Reception is good for now (a month of use) and I think the battery life is good as well. Ring tones and arrangement of features are easily changed to your own liking. Camera if just fine with 8x zoom but the pictures look good only with using no zoom at all. But what else would one expect from an 1.3 mp mobile camera? Love the styling though, flat and wide, and I personally love this color.

1 out of 5 stars Neat phone, typical poor Motorola quality and service.......2007-09-14

The phone is neat and comes with a lot of great features, but buyer beware-the warranty is basically non-existant. We had a problem with the keyboard and called for warranty service and they said that the warranty is invalid if there is any water damage. We explained that there was no water damage, it just stopped working. They asked us to check a "dot" sensor on the phone. If the dot is red, the warranty is invalid. We asked how the dot could be red when the phone (2 months old) never got wet, and their rep told us that rain, sweat or being exposed to humidity or condensation! An unscientific survy of razr uses at a soccer game found 4 of 5 with the dot turned red-and hense no warranty.

So bottom line is, it is a good phone, as long as you don't sweat or live in a location where it rains or gets humid.

There are much more reliable options out there.

3 out of 5 stars What happened Motorola?.......2007-09-12

Picked up this phone when it was time to upgrade from my first Razr. What a disappointment! It's heavier and chunkier than my nice, slim, lightweight one. It has a recurring problem with an echo that my carrier assures me is 'my phone not their equipment' and the battery life is poor, even though I almost exclusively use it just as a phone and don't use the camera/video/MP3 features at all. I should have kept using my old phone! I was very disappointed in the product and it may result in not purchasing a Motorola again. I wouldn't recommend it if you're accustomed to the old Razr and are expecting similar quality. On the the plus size it is durable, easier to find(due to it's increased size) and if I were planning on using the MP3 capabilities would be fine. The wallpaper etc that come with it were disappointing as were the ring tones, but this is easily changed. I wouldn't buy another one, but it may meet your requirements if they're different than mine.
