Very nice monitor at a good price.......2006-08-25
I've had this monitor since last December and am pleased with how it's performed. It's a big beast on my desk, but for the money I didn't see how I could beat it. Prices keep coming down on flat panel monitors, and I'll eventually break down and buy one, but in the interim this is just fine. I agree with the previous reviewer that with my nVidia card I do need to do a little tweaking, and the colors are not quite as saturated as previous NEC monitors I've owned (the video card or the monitor, who can be sure?) but the text is crisp edge to edge and graphics look great.
I'd definitely recommend this if a CRT monitor is what you're after.
Great Monitor at a great Amazon price.......2006-05-25
After checking prices with all the usual pricing bots, I found a better price, including free shipping, by going directly to Amazon. This lowest price did not appear in the other searches, so it pays to go to Amazon first.
The NEC is brighter and sharper than the Dell (Sony Trinitron) that it replaced and is about 20 pounds lighter. Amazon delivered by UPS in record time, I ordered on a Friday and received it the following Tuesday. Thanks Amazon!
Gets the job done, needs tweaking.......2006-02-25
I bought this monitor to replace another NEC 19" flat screen CRT monitor that started to fail. I didn't want to buy another NEC but this one got great reviews and the $200 delivered price was too hard to pass up. As compared to my previous flat screen NEC monitor, this one is about the same. Nice picture, quiet, good clarity and looks very good at high motion, high resolution games such as BF2. The monitor doesn't have the vibrance of the Viewsonic VX924 LCD but then again, the LCD can only go to 1280 x 1024. The factory default settings for this NEC monitor looked washed out. After playing around with the Nvidia display properties, I was able to get a very descent picture. All in all, a good monitor, not the greatest thing ever, but definitely acceptable.
Very Quiet.......2005-12-31
The monitor has a very nice picture and sets up as fast as you can plug in a couple of cords. However, you had better have some headphones or else a separate speaker, because this unit doesn't have a built-in speaker. I suppose it's a case of buyer beware again, but it just never occurred to me that the thing would be silent. I use headphones a lot, but my wife doesn't, so I don't know if we're keeping this monitor or not. The description could have been a wee bit clearer concerning this aspect.

The W580i operates on GSM 850/900/1800/1900 networks and can handle high-speed data connectivity via AT&T's EDGE network (which stands for "Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution"), with availability in more than 13,000 US cities and along some 40,000 miles of major highways. This third-generation, high-speed, mobile data and Internet access technology is fast enough to support a wide range of advanced data services (with average data speeds between 75-135Kbps), including video and music clips, full picture and video messaging, high-speed color Internet access, and email on the go.
The phone has a built-in web browser for MEdia Net downloads and mobile web browsing. AT&T's MEdia Net service lets you do more than just stream videos--it enables you to receive and send emails, read news headlines, get weather updates, download games and ringtones, and more. It also features AT&T Mobile Music, which provides access to the Napster subscription music service in addition to Music ID song-recognition software, music videos and The Buzz music news portal. Phone Features
The W580i Walkman phone offers a full-function digital audio player that's compatible with MP3 and AAC files. The front of this slider phone includes dedicated music control buttons, and it includes Sony Ericsson's innovative "shake to shuffle" feature. With Shake control activated, press and hold the Walkman key and flick your wrist. A vibration lets you know that the track has been changed--a new song from your current playlist is randomly selected and automatically played.
With the TrackID service, you can identify any song that you can hear by just recording a snippet of sound using the microphone. After sending the file for recognition, you'll have the name, artist and album sent to your phone. Other Walkman features include MegaBass enhancement for added depth of sound, a flight mode that lets you keep listening to tunes with the phone's network connectivity turned off, and Disc2Phone software for easy transfer of song files between phone and PC. It also includes a built-in FM radio with RDS, which displays the name of the currently playing song (when tuned to compatible radio stations).
This phone provides Bluetooth version 2.0 wireless connectivity with EDR (enhanced data rate), and includes profiles for communication headset, handsfree car kits, and audio/video remote control. With the A2DP Bluetooth profile, you can stream your music to a pair of compatible Bluetooth stereo headphones. You can connect your laptop (either via Bluetooth or wired USB) and enjoy dial-up networking--surf the Internet, send email, and access files from a server.
The built-in 2.0 megapixel camera captures stills and video--and playback of video or still pictures is only limited to the memory card size. Picture effects and custom screensavers, backgrounds, and themes can be setup to fit your personality. It provides support for PictBridge technology so you can print your photos without the need of a PC (either using USB or Bluetooth). And the W580i makes it easy to send snapped photos directly to a blog or an online photo, complete with text. This phone is also compatible with RTSP/3GPP streaming video playback
You can even take your favorite tracks to the track with the W580i, which will count your steps, your calories and monitor your running speed/distance/time with the integrated motion sensor. Your workout results are stored in your phone so you can monitor your progress.
The phone also ships with a built-in email client with support for POP3 and IMAP4 protocols, while the included Access NetFront Web Browser allows you to surf full HTML web sites. It also supports RSS feeds, allowing you to use your phone to view up-to-the-minute news and other content from selected Web sites and blogs. Just subscribe to the feed and let it come to you. I would have rated this review higher since the phone meets all my expectations but..... all models except for the white phone come without a memory chip. I had to purchase a 4gig separately.
Good phone, good features, but horrible keys........2007-12-25
I have owned this phone since late August 2007, and it's the best phone I've owned yet. I put my Motorola Razr through the washing machine one Friday night after our football game, long story, but I was looking for a new phone anyway. After I bought the phone, I heard one of my friends say that he bought the same phone two weeks before and his buttons had cracked straight down the middle, and I totally thought he wanted me to return my phone because he didn't want anyone having the same phone. He was not kidding, because five days later, my first key broke, the number 5.
Now it is December, I'm looking for another phone, not because this phone isn't great, but every student at school has a slider. It's been a great phone except every key has cracked down the middle!

This is my 3rd phone to purchase through Amazon.com and they do a great job of providing you with the information you need. Dealing with the phone providers is a different story but it has nothing to do with Amazon.com and how they do business.
Very disappointed with the W580i........2007-12-19
My previous phone was the Sony Ericsson S710a, and loved it. So I thought the W580i would be an improvement from that. But sadly it's not. And for the price through Amazon being $.01, I should have bought a different phone even if I had to spend more.
Good:
Clear sound.
Small but good clear screen.
Bad:
Keys cracked right after I had it a month. Amazon didn't seem to know their own return policy as, of the 8 representitives I spoke with, 4 said it could be exchanged with no problem for a different phone, and 3 said they would research it only to send a standard denial email, and one had the courage to say all of them were wrong, apologize for being transferred, and tell me what did I expect from a free phone.
No light on the camera
So so camera, there is pixel lines in every picture

Don't even think about using the speaker to play music.
Sometimes will receive an error of death.
Slider feels flimsy, and I worry that it will eventually break.
Battery life isn't great.
Wrist strap hole is useless
Overall it's a basic phone aimed at teens. Wheras the S710a I would say was marketed towards an older crowd. So I was a sucker for buying this, and now I have to live with it for my 2 year contract. I will most likely end up buying a phone off of eBay within 6 months just to get away from this one.
I recommend a DO NOT BUY...plenty of other phones are better than this one.
