5 out of 5 stars Worked as Advertized.......2007-04-25

Worked well, it was easy to set up, and had a fairly good range.

I was using it in the garage to link two PC's to the house. I had one set up to "Share" its internet connection. Worked fine.

Although DON'T Loose your CD. And don't loose the Adapter? I lost mine after I wired the connection? Nice product.

5 out of 5 stars Fast to configurate!.......2005-05-16

I use to conect my laptop and my desktop (Peer-To-Peer) both are Windows Xp, and i just intalled the drivers and used the windows wizard to make my own home network. I was simple. My desktop is connected to internet and my laptop's connected by my new wireless home network perfectly.

Sometimes the connection is poor or no package is received, but in a few second it start again, my house is not that big, i think is not powerfull or there're to many walls between both computers, but for a home or small businnes it's Ok.

For my specific use it's excellent, small and simple.

4 out of 5 stars Effortless Wireless Networking.......2004-04-02

I live in a three story house with a basement. I have been running a wireless network in my house for the last four years. My current setup consists of an Orinoco AP running in infrastructure mode and 4 laptops using a variety of Orinoco and SMC PCMCIA cards (All running 11Mbps). These are hubbed into an inhouse ethernet setup to access printers and server systems, as well as for access to Internet. My current setup cost me upwards of $350 to setup 4 years ago.

(...) I wanted to try them and see if I would want to use them for a project I was working on for a friend. I ordered two and proceed to test.

I first tested these in my current network, to see if I could access all my systems. I installed one in one of my laptops running XP pro, and the other in a server running XP pro. Installation was a breeze with the provided sw on the CD. Everything came up and running in about a few minutes. I ran the initial tests with my existing network SSID to incorporate these into my setup. I could access everythying and use all shared resources at full speed from everywhere in the house. My AP is located in an office room on the the second floor facing the back of the house. I got excellent reception from everywhere, including in the basement. Actually, these worked better than my original Orinoco cards, which in certain parts of the house would switch to lower speeds. I never had a downspeed synch with these adapters.

Then I proceeded to go outside to test reception in the street and yard. I walked down the street with my laptop surfing the net. I could go as far as approx. 200 feet away from my house when I started experiencing speed drops. When I got back closer to the house, the adapters synched back up at the highest speed (11Mbps).

Next, I wanted to test the peer-to-peer mode of operation, so I deinstalled the adapter from my server and installed it in a second laptop running Win2000. This installation was also effortless and I was operational in a few minutes. In this test, I configured a second SSID for the two adapters and created a second network in addition to my original one. All tests went flawless. I could use both networks and no problems at all.

I also installed and tested the network management sw that comes with the adapters. It was very easy to use and allowed me instant visibility of both networks in my house. I could even switch between the two of them with a simple click of the mouse and operate PP or AP mode. The adapters also worked under Windows XP wireless configuration utility. But I preferred the Gigafast sw because it allowed me to see my other networks and switch between them easily.

I do not use any encryption setup and did not test the WEP capabilities of the adapters.

I like the fact that these are very small devices and I like the fact that they use the USB ports to connect. However, on a laptop with only a single USB port, these take up a very valuable resource. If one uses a USB mouse or keyboard, it might present a conflict for ports. I much prefer using them on a desktop system.

The adapters come with a male-female USB-A extension cable that allows installation away from the PC or laptop. It is 3.5 feet long, and makes it possible to position the adapters away from the PC or other sources of interference, or simply allow for better clearance and positioning for the signal strength - very convenient. This is important because if one plugs adapter into the USB port on a laptop directly, they protrude from behind the laptop (in my case the USB port is located in the back of the laptop) and are prone to bending or breakage if one is not carefull.

Overall, my experience with these units have been very positive and I would recommend them highly to anyone considering setting up a home wireless network.

Nokia E62 Smartphone (AT&T)

Amazon.com Product Description

BlackBerry lovers, there's a new device on the block, and it packs all the functionality of a quad-band Nokia smartphone into a design that business users have grown to love. The device packs EDGE data capabilities, Bluetooth, a miniSD memory card slot, and support for just about every email protocol you can think of -- including BlackBerry Connect and Goodlink. All this and much more is packed into a thin, sleek, and stylish exterior that's perfect for the discerning professional. The Nokia E62 is the perfect way to take advantage of all that Cingular service has to offer.

Thin, light, and powerful, the E62 makes a great office on the go.
Design
The E62 goes with a tried and true design that makes it easy to communicate at a moment's notice. The large, 320 x 240 screen supports a whopping 16.7 million colors, while a QWERTY keyboard just below the screen makes typing out emails, SMS messages, notes, presentations, and more a breeze. A center "thumb stick" allows you to quickly navigate the E62's menus and features, while soft keys on either side of the stick make it easy to quickly access important phone and productivity functions -- all of which make the E62 a snap to use one-handed. On the bottom of the phone, you'll find a dedicated headset jack and a mini-usb connector. The phone's charging port and infrared sensor are also located on the bottom of the phone. Under the battery cover, you'll find a hot-swappable miniSD slot, as well. The device ships with 75 MB of internal memory, as well as a 64 MB miniSD card.

Calling Features
The E62's address book is only limited by the amount of available memory, and it can store multiple phone numbers, as well as physical and email addresses. Meanwhile, the E62's built-in speakerphone makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear, while speaker-independent voice dialing makes it easy to dial numbers with the sound of your voice. Polyphonic ringtones are included, and you can use your favorite music or recorded voices as ringtones. You can also download additional MP3 music ringtones from Cingular's MEdia Net service. Plus, picture IDs let you assign specific ringtones to particular callers. If you want to keep things discreet, there's a vibrate mode, too. And, of course, the phone's Bluetooth connectivity means that your favorite Bluetooth headset is fully compatible.

Messaging, Internet and Tools
With support for the MMS (multimedia messaging service), the E62 can send picture, video and text messages. Instant messaging is also supported, and the phone ships with a built-in email client that supports POP3, IMAP, and SMTP protocols, as well as Microsoft Office-based email attachments. A robust set of push email and wireless synchronization solutions are provided, including Activesync for Exchange and Outlook, Intellisync, BlackBerry Connect, and Goodlink.

With BlackBerry service plans from Cingular, you can receive emails instantaneously from up to 10 email accounts (personal and enterprise). With BlackBerry push technology, you don't need to retrieve your email. Instead, BlackBerry devices are designed to remain on and continuously connected to the wireless network, allowing you to be discreetly notified as new email arrives. Support is also built-in for viewing email attachments (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, WordPerfect, and PDF formats).

Getting on the Internet is easy with the E62. It supports the GPRS data protocol, as well as high-speed EDGE wireless data service. When used with a Cingular data plan and the phone's Bluetooth data capability, the phone can be used as a wireless modem for laptops and PDAs.

Just the right dimensions for mobile productivity.
The E62's innovative built-in browser, one of many enhancements included with the device's new Symbian operating system -- known as Series 60 9.1 Version 3 -- offers full HTML viewing as well as support for page zooming, CSS, javascript and other technologies that will bring you very close to a desktop PC browsing experience.

The E62 supports PC synchronization standards via USB or Bluetooth, which means you can manage and synchronize contacts, calendars and other data with your PC. Nokia's PC Suite application makes this process a breeze. A number of handy software tools are bundled with the device, including a voice memo recorder, a calculator, and an alarm clock. Productivity tools bundled with the E62 include a word processor, a presentation viewer/editor, a spreadsheet viewer/editor, PDF viewer, and a zip file manager. The office applications are compatible with the most common features of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel (MS Office 97 or later). Robust contact and calendar applications are also included.

Entertainment
You can mix your business with quite a bit of pleasure, as the E62 supports playback of MP3 and AAC audio files, as well as streaming and stored video files. Connect a headset, load up your tunes and videos to a memory card, and you've got some serious entertainment in your hand. Picture effects and custom screensavers, as well as backgrounds and themes, can be set up to fit your personality. And don't forget that the E62 is a powerful gaming companion with support for Java and Symbian games.

Vital Statistics
The Nokia E62 weighs 5 ounces and measures 4.61 x 2.74 x 0.55 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 7 hours of digital talk time, and up to 264 hours of digital standby time. It runs on the 850/900/1800/1900 MHz GSM/GPRS/EDGE frequencies.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Avoid this phone!.......2007-10-15

This phone has known battery life issues. After 6 months my battery doesnt last longer than one day. Software is excruciatingly slow moving from menue to menue. During one billing period the phone connected to the internet by itselft over 1,500 times. AT&T's solution: disable all data access. Mercifully, the E-62 has been discontinued, but be advised to steer clear.

2 out of 5 stars Beware the White Screen of Death.......2007-07-23

I chose this phone over the Blackjack because of its screen size, keyboard ergonomics, and ability to sync with my Outlook while travelling (via RoadSync, not the built-in email sync app). For the past 2 months, it WAS a great business phone despite the lack of Wi-Fi, camera, or fast internet. However, it has a very critical flaw: DO NOT let the battery run out of charge in your phone. While this is normally a good thing for battery life, the E62 does not power up again nor accept charging from the charger if it's battery is totally drained. Looking on Symbian and other user forums, it is commony referred to as "the White Screen". Symptoms: If the battery is drained and you plug the wall charger to the phone, a dim white screen appears (despite the phone being powered off) the NOKIA brand shows, then the white screen returns. Your phone does not get charged. If you try to power up, the only difference is a brighter white screen. But nothing more than the logo will appear.
I checked 3 different ATT stores in my area and none had the E62, battery, battery-only cradles or any other accessory for this phone (despite their big promotions less than 3 months earlier). One employee said the only way to get accessories was via the website. So I can't even go into a store to see if my phone will power up with a charged battery.
Right now, the phone is still off in my briefcase. I switched the SIM with another phone so work isn't too affected by this issue.
I will probably switch to a blackjack or blackberry now. Too bad since I used to be a big fan.

2 out of 5 stars Not as smart as regular phones.......2007-06-01

So I wanted to upgrade, to get a phone that would help me increase my productivity and allow me e-mail and internet functionality. The Nokia was not it, I'm afraid.

It's not even that great as a phone, as it has several pretty nasty habits. For one, it will randomly set itself to profiles other than the one I set for it, which means that on occasion it will ring when it's supposed to be silent, it will use a ringtone I didn't select, or - as in several noteworthy occasions - it will set itself to be "offline," meaning no ingoing or outgoing calls.

Last week it randomly deleted all the numbers saved in my speed dial and I had to reset them all.

It's little things. For instance, when you select "log," you have to click through two extra screens before you see your recent calls, which is a complete waste of time. The interface is not intuitive and easy to use like other smartphones, and the web functionality is pretty much crap. I will say: this is the first phone I've ever had where I really liked using the speakerphone. So there's that.

I've never been happy with a Nokia phone, and after my experience with this one, I'm never buying another Nokia again.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent Features, all of which are slow........2007-04-28

Cons: As previousely mentioned in other reviews, this phone is frustratingly slow. When sending text messages, it takes a good 90 seconds to send. The keyboard is not stiff at all, at least I don't think so, but it is a bit goofy to type with as compared to the Nokia 6822 (a phone I would deffinately recommend for text lovers). One reviewer mentioned that the backlight doesn't come on with the pressing of any key. I found that a bit annoying as well, until I pressed the power key, which turned the backlight on while the keys were locked. The most annoying feature of this phone is the voice recorder button. It is located on the upper left side, and is easily pressed. And when you press it, it automatically starts recording. I've bumped it several times, and the automatic recording plus the slow loading time is a real pain.

Pros: It displays all the "to-do" items right on the home screen, and has excellent sound quality for mp3 playback, and it's loud enough for me to hear it when I'm blaring music in my car.

Overall: If you're willing to do a hard reset on this phone every 4-6 months, and you don't mind waiting at least a minute for the phone to do anything, go right ahead and buy it. But if you're in your right mind, don't even bother. I'll keep this phone after getting a new one, because I really like the calander and detailed address book; but as for phone calls, text messaging, surfing the web, and other features of the sort, I'd find a different phone.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect professional and personal device!.......2007-03-25

My old devie was one Dell X 51V Pocket-Pc with Windows Mobile 5.0.
My new device is a Nokia E62.
I use it for professional and personal live, and love it!
I use it to:
- send and receive e-mails ( MS Exchange, Hotmail, Gmail, others ),
- browse the web ( the screen is great, and you see the real sites ),
- to write documents in meetings ( i use only one hand and can write with good speed ),
- to talk with Messenger,
