How nice is it to be able to just push your antannae in and go?!!! This card is very sleek, completely aesthetically pleasing...not to mention cool! Very innovative design. It works great too. I've had no problems connecting to networks on both my pc and mac laptops with it. I've never noticed any difference in speeds...I've never met a public wi-fi access point that transmits at over 2Mbps..and this card is 11Mbps....so it's never taken full advantage of. All in all - this is an amazing card!

I bought this item in full knowledge of quite a few bad reviews I have read. Some are accurate some not so. I have found the pop-out antenna to be not flimsy at all - its spring is very stiff holding it well in place. Some reviews say it has problem sticking to its retracted position, some say it sticks to easially. I havent found that, but the card is still new.
Performance wise it is average at best. It seams to take alot longer then my orionoco card at aquiring network and it does also loose signal sometimes. Using the latest drivers improved the performance greatly and is compatible with winXP (service pack 2) inbuilt wireless control, so there is no need to install the 3com software that comes with it (which is very nice).
Having said all that, the retractible antenna really is worth it all, and even with the antenna out it is still only sticks out a small amount and is unobstructive.
I would recommend this card to anyone who likes being mobile but doesnt require hard-core preformance.

Design
The t629's sliding design hides the phone's number pad under the display until you need to make a call. The large, 176 x 220 pixel display supports up to 262,000 colors--plenty of resolution and color depth for your videos and photos. A five-way center control button is positioned below the display, as are shortcut and selection keys. Other design features include the phone's 1.3 megapixel camera, which is housed on the top-rear portion of the phone, while the USB data and charging ports are located on the phone's bottom edge. There's also a microSD slot on the right side of the phone.
Calling Features
With 21 MB of internal memory, and a memory card slot, the t629 is designed to hold all the contacts, phone numbers and addresses you can throw at it. A call list remembers your most recent missed, received, and dialed calls, and in addition to a vibrating alert, the t629 supports polyphonic ringtones and MP3-based music ringtones. You can also download additional MP3 music ringtones from T-Mobile's t-zones service. A speakerphone lets you talk hands-free while you're doing other things, and the picture caller ID function lets you assign a photo to specific callers. Similarly, a ringer ID lets you assign ringtones to callers. Meanwhile, voice activated dialing makes calling your friends, family, and associates as easy as saying their names.

When used with a T-Mobile data plan and the phone's USB or Bluetooth data capability, the phone can be used as a wireless modem for laptops and PDAs. There's also a built-in browser for t-zones downloads and mobile Web browsing. T-Mobile's t-zones service lets you receive and send emails, read news headlines, get weather updates, download games and ringtones, and more. Good while it worked .......2007-12-10
My wife and I both bought these T629 phones a little over one year ago. Unfortunately, the screen display ceased working properly in both our phones after about 13 or 14 months of normal use (the manufacturer's warranty is only for 1 year). My guess is that a flex cable connecting the keypad to the display is poorly connected and that it will fail after the sliding display is opened/closed a certain number of times. Since it happened to both of our phones, I do not believe this experience to be a fluke.

Basically, there are two types of people in the world: those who want a phone that acts well as a phone, or those who want a PDA/MP3 players/iPhone. I'm in the former camp, and was longing for a phone with good reception, long battery life and a ring tone that didn't sound like a clip from an electronica disco.
This little baby meets and exceeds my expectations. In addition to working well as a phone, the interface is intuitive, the phonebook works beautifully and it's small enough to slide into any pocket without looking like I'm carrying a laptop. Bluetooth is easy to set up and works fine. My wife takes endless pictures with the damn thing so I suspect the camera part works pretty well too.
I came from using a Razr, a device which I consider proof that God doesn't exist. I wrote Motorola to inform them of its sub-par features that elude to some self-gratifying fantasy from their design department, but only received a $50 voucher for another Razr. Everything that was wrong with the Razr is right with the t629. Even the sliding thing whips the flip thing.
Long live the t629. I'm too irritated by Apple and iPhone owners dominating endless news stories about how they can-can't-can-can't unlock it to ever want to buy one. I don't care about any of that. I just want my beautiful pitch-perfect voice to grace the airwaves without being turned into robot noises. I don't need GPS - I already have that in my car and don't need to know where I am when walking around.
My only gripe is that the power socket is hidden behind a 1 cent flimsy piece of lead-painted plastic that didn't make it into a children's toy. I ripped it off within the first week and have been enjoying unhindered recharging experiences ever since. I also wish that all phone manufacturers were forced to standardize on a charger type, because I have a drawer of old chargers that I have keep for the next 40 years 'just in case'.
I even quite like T-Mobile since the $40 1500-minute deal is pretty good. Inevitably they'll sour our relationship at some point by competing with AT&T for the Holy Grail of God-Awful Customer Service, but that day has yet to come.

At the start, I was very happy with Samsung t629. I knew that battery life can't be compared with Motorola or Nokia, but I really liked the looks of it. After about a month (right when my warranty with Tmobile expired) battery started dying on me, with two days on stand by. I contacted the Samsung and they told me to send them the battery, that they will fix it or send the new one back . When I sent the battery, I didn't pay for tracking (certified mail). I just didn't want to have an extra expense, since this was not my fault. After two months of waiting, and lots of hours on the phone with Samsung, I could not resolve anything! They told me that they never received the battery, and that they can't do anything about it. So, I have a phone without the battery, that I can't use. I was mostly disappointed with Tmobile, which is my provider for 7 years, who sold me the product and doesn't want to do anything about it. I am, patiently, waiting for my contract with Tmobile to expire, and I am gone!!!!
I know four people, who own t629, and they have the same problem with battery life. So be very careful!!!!

I've had this phone for about a year now, and overall, it is pretty good. It has good reception, and despite what some other reviewers have said, you really get used to the keys. The one problem I have is in text messaging. I send thousands of text messages a month, and the most irritating thing about this phone is that you cannot customize the tone for when you get messages! You can't use downloaded rings, you can't use recorded sound clips, nothing, just the few bad rings that come with it. When you text like I do, that becomes very annoying, so i end up leaving the phone on vibrate nearly all the time. Also, as others have mentioned, both the regular and speaker volume should be louder, but they are bearable.

Just something I want to share with prospective buyers. We were driving down a road when my husband noticed something being tossed around by some cars infront of us. I slowed down and he grabbed the object. It was the Samsung t 629, exactly the phone we planned on upgrading to. It was run over, badly scratched, and the screen had a crack. Amazingly, it still worked. We called "home" and were able to return the phone to its owner. Now that is a solid cell phone!
