Design
The RAZR V3m's design takes the standard clamshell form factor to the next level with an impressive, fully-anodized aluminum construction. A large 176 x 220 color display with 65,000 colors dominates the inside of the top cover. The outside cover of the handset sports a supplementary 96 x 80 full-color display that can display caller ID pictures, time, call information, battery and signal strength, and more. The 1.3 megapixel camera lens is housed above this display. Up/down buttons are placed on the left side for volume control.

Most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button on the handset's backlit control pad, which is precision cut from a single sheet of nickel-plated copper alloy. A charging port and USB data cable port is placed on the bottom of the phone. The RAZR V3m also features 30 MB of embedded memory for storing pictures, videos and downloaded V Cast content, and you can expand your storage space with the phone's microSD/TransFlash memory card slot. Note that the phone does not have a 2.5mm headset jack, but a headset adapter is included in the box.

Calling Features
The RAZR V3m's internal phone book can hold up to 1000 contacts while the phone's picture ID system allows you to assign pictures to your most common callers. It also supports polyphonic ringtones as well as MP3 ringers, allowing you to use portions of your favorite songs to alert you to incoming calls. A number of ringtones come preloaded on the phone and more ringtones can be downloaded from Verizon Wireless' Get It Now service. For times when you want to be discreet, there's a vibrating alert. Slim phone but locked down by Verizon and poor battery life.......2007-02-18

I have owned this phone for nearly a year now, and so thought it appropriate to write a review.

Here are the good points:

- This is a very slim phone. No more bulges in my pocket!

- The build quality is great and it feels very solid and unlikely to break easily.

- The dark gray color is very sleak and it has a nice metallic un-plasticy feel to it.

- It has a impressive list of features - Bluetooth, Java games, a camera with quality higher than the standard VGA etc. to name a few.

- It uses a standard mini-USB cable to charge which means that buying charger and/or data transfer cables is easy.

Here are the bad points:

- Very limited battery life. Usually I got somewhere in between 2 and 3 days (and I don't talk a lot!). I ended up buying a replacement battery from a 3rd party with a higher capacity. Now I get 5-6 days which is more reasonable.

- A very annoying low battery warning. When this phone is anywhere near running out of battery it beeps loudly or vibrates for a long time (depending on the settings). It is not possible to turn this off, unless you silence the ring. In my opinion this makes it unusable when it is low on battery, and I always turn it off at that point. Why can't there be an option to change the low battery warning ring style independently of the regular ring, or even to turn it off altogether?

- Verizon have changed the user interface to fit in with their brand. Menus have been rearranged and renamed. For example, if you want to download new wallpaper you have to go to the "GET IT NOW" menu and select "Get PIX & FLIX". Also, from reading reports elsewhere on the web I've heard that the user interface is not as usable than Motorola's default. Also I've heard that the default interface does not suffer from the slight delay that this has when navigating around the options screens.

- Verizon have REALLY locked this phone down. You can't transfer data to or from this phone directly. For example, if you want to transfer a photo to your PC you can't use Bluetooth or a cable. The only way to do it is to E-mail it, and therefore pay Verizon. The same thing applies to wallpapers, ringtones and games. If you want them, you'll have to use Verizon's premium service, and pay them for it. Also, you can't manage the contacts using PC software because again Verizon have locked it down. This is VERY annoying. I believe that Verizon is the ONLY provider that does this to the this phone. Give us a break, Verizon, and let us decide how to use our phones!

Overall this is a great phone with some relatively minor niggles. I have been pleased with it and it has been one of my better phones.

After one year with a Samsung SCH-A670, I decided to replace it with a Motorola RAZR V3M. It's fragle, and I've only dropped it one time (not too hard) and it still works! It's been almost 6 months since I've upgraded it, and I LOVE IT!

Crippled phone.......2006-11-25

Verizon has made a phone that is full of features, then removed the bluetooth Object Exchange (OBEX), so if you take a picture, you have to pay .25 cents to send it to yourself. And that cute little mp3 you made of your kids laughing - you want to use it for a ringtone? Forget it. You'll have to choose one of theirs and pay for it. Because you will not be able to send the file to your new v3m RAZR. Pretty much, this is a fancy little phone that connects directly to your wallet. Anything useful, outside of making a regular phone call, is going to cost you, on a transaction basis. I hate mine for just that reason.

If you want a featureless phone that only makes and recieves calls, this is it. But if you think all those fancy bells and whistles listed above are nice, GO WITH ANOTHER CARRIER.

I'm stuck with mine for the next year and a half - don't make the same MISTAKE I did.

Good for a Verizon phone.......2006-08-06

I'm just getting acquainted with the new razor and i am not displeased so far. One of the problems with Verizon is, as everyone knows, their complete lack of creativity or form combined with function. (i really want the HAL 9000 phone from Nokia) One thing i noticed (for which i found no entries on the web) is that within the first 3 days of owning the phone, the battery got extremely hot, and lost its charge in 6 hours. Needless to say, it was replaced. Since getting the new one, i have had a few issues:
1) The problem with the button location is irritating. The buttons along the flip side of the phone get in the way of handling the phone at all (i found a hard plastic case that has eliminated this problem for me, but if you like it to be just phone, this is something of which to be aware).
2) i have very small fingers, but still have a problem with the menu key and its surroundings. I frequently hit wrong keys. but the last phone i had had similar problems (Kyocera slider phone).
3) Verizon makes it difficult to change anything on their phones, and adds things you don't want to your phone. I looked on my bill and i have a charge for ringback tones when i never wanted them, and people were calling me saying there was orchestra music when they called me. If they hadn't told me, i would never have known that Verizon just decided to put ringback tones on my phone after ordering two *ringtones* Additionally, they plaster it with their logo everywhere. To change all that, i have to hack into the phone through some long involved process to not be a billboard.
4) i hate the way the menu works. I am taking extra steps to get to everything. It is very user friendly for people who have no idea about phones, but i can't even change menu items to quick things. To send text messages, it's a 4 step process just to get to the entry page.

But don't let these things influence the bigger picture. This is a great phone. Easy to use, it would be great for people who take the phone out of the box and just want to make a call.
Accessories are wonderful. Bluetooth is key. Vcast is easy to get to, as well as other sites to download ringtones and such. It's nice, that in the world, there are a lot of technologically savvy people willing to share ways to get Verizon back and teach us how to hack into the phones to remove the cripples that Verizon lays out. (thanks tech people!) It may be complicated but find a 15-year-old, offer them a phone and ask them to hook you up if you can't do it yourself.

I will say, i didn't notice the tinny thing people mention, and the clarity of the reception is crisp from my vantage point. I also noticed that the speaker phone has a loud enough volume that i can hear it driving in my car, elliminating my need for the headset (this was a problem with previous phones). I love that there is an alarm only setting for volume control. Great for those of us who use our phones as an alarm clock and have people who want to call in the middle of the night to chit chat right before you have a big meeting/test.
The camera takes decent pictures for "on the fly" as one person put it, and has nice editing/taking software for b/w, sepia (everyone looks better in sepia!) and warping. The only problem is, again, that Verizon wants you to use their service, so they make it hard to un-disable that transfer to your harddrive mode.

Ultimately, when it comes to Verizon, this is the best *phone* they have available. You do make compromises for having the best coverage for cell service. Unfortunately, limited options is one. Verizon knows it, and thus can get away with making stuff really hard.

GREAT PHONE!.......2006-07-26

Don't listen to the bad reviews. This phone is great. I bought my Razr 3 or 4 months ago, and I was reall nervous about it considering all of the bad reviews on this site. So far, I have not had a single problem. THE BATTERY LIFE IS EXCELLENT!!!! I leave my phone on from about 7-8 in the morning till 11-12 at night. With all of that time, I have only had to charge my phone 2 TIMES IN THE LAST 2 WEEKS!!! I get about 5 or 6 days of use without charging, while the phone is constantly on. THERE IS NO ECHO problem with the phone unless you are really close to the person you are talking to. I love that you can shut the phone and still be on speakerphone. I can keep my phone closed in my pocket while I drive and talk to friends and we can hear each other just fine. This phone is also very durable. I have dropped my phone multiple times on concrete and my phone is scratch and damage free! Believe me, there are always bad reviews for things like this, but I guess you have to decide which side is more credible. But I can tell you from personal experience that I have found that there is absolutely nothing wrong with this phone. If you really want more proof, go to professional websites that review electronic items (google it) and they will give you much more credible proof about this phone.
