I have had this router for about a year. Whenever you call they always say it is an issue with the DSL service provider. No help at all. Does not work with my wireless laptop. Totally useless. I am throwing away as soon as I get my Linksys. Will never buy another Belkin product. When will these companies learn outsourcing customer support to other countries undermines their reliability.
Stable, but featureless.......2006-07-24
The router is quite stable, at least compared to my Linksys router. I have never had to reset the Belkin, but with its great stabability comes its own problems. There is no way to disable wireless internet access, and for someone who doesn't use the feature, its just another security risk. Along with this, the setup page is only usable through Internet Explorer. Being a windows user this is not a major drawback, but for any linux user this can be quite a problem. The setup pages are also somewhat complex, requiring multiple page navigations to reach a single option. However, despite these drawbacks, the router has excellent logging capabilites that are far better than my Linksys. Overall the F5D6231-4 is a decent router and I recommend it to any wireless windows customers.

I'm on my third router. And after a year the range seems to have dropped and i need to switch on and off several tomes a day.

I bought this because it was cheap and I just wanted to use it as an extra network switch, and possibly an access point later. First thing I wanted to do was change the IP address so it coincided with the rest of my network. By doing this the router gets confused and changes to a random IP. It still works with the settings you had in it before changing the IP but you can't connect to it to configure anything else. If you try to use the "Access Point Only" mode, that doesn't work either and the router stops working altogether. In both situations you have to reset it to factory defaults and start all over. Belkin has no fix for this problem, I called them. Their solution was unacceptable and here we are a couple years after I bought this thing and they still haven't fixed it. Buy Belkin cables, stay away from all their electronics with firmware and/or software, they don't support them very well.

Design
The BlackBerry 7290 follows the standard BlackBerry form factor-- a large 240 x 160 color screen placed above a QWERTY keyboard. The screen offers plenty of real estate to view your e-mails, Web browser content, messaging sessions, and attachments. The popular BlackBerry user interface is here, too, which makes it easy to navigate the handheld's functions. A trackwheel is located on the right side of the unit for quick scrolling through menus and e-mails. There's also a standard 2.5mm headset jack that can be used with the included headset. A removable lithium-ion battery is housed in the rear of the handheld.
Calling Features
Many of the calling capabilities folks have come to expect in a wireless phone are present in the BlackBerry 7290. The unit's Bluetooth capability means you can use a wireless headset with the phone for hands-free calling. A vibrating alert, speed dial, and a contacts list/address book (limited only by the unit's 32 MB of internal memory) are also included.

Perfect for a small business owner.......2007-05-17
I purchased the 7290 on e-Bay ($35) to replace a 7280. They look almost identical, but what a difference. I bought a Philips Bluetooth earpiece at Fry's to complement it ($15.00), and the reception is superb.
The Cingular coverage in L.A. is excellent and I never drop any calls. With backlight, the screen couldn't be any brighter (one big difference over the dimly-lit 7280). Syncing with either Outlook or ACT! is a child's play.
Best smart phone I've ever had, by far. True, no MP3 or camera, but, hey, this is a business machine.

I hoped a phone combo would eliminate having to carry a phone and PDA looking like Batman's Bat Belt.
The phone sucks - breaks up and message notices arrive often a day after the call.
This is now a very old unit. I will see if an upgrade means better phone or do I hold out for the mac phone?

The 7290 is a great choice model if you need a Blackberry. I love having my blackberry synchronizing with our Blackberry Enterprise Server, that way i am fully in synch with my Outlook.
BES is a must really for any Blackberry user.
Customer Services is a pain with Cingular, but you shouldn't be dealing with them too much.

I am an attorney and I purchased this a couple of months ago and it is excellent. I receive e-mails instantly, receive clear reception when placing and receiving phone calls. Plus, with blue tooth technology, I can just place the phone into my blackberry stand or leave it in my purse and still talk instead of holding the blackberry to my ear. I looked at some of the newer models but was not impressed. The 8700 series has a few more amenities; however, the keyboard is smaller and to me the 7290 is more asthetically pleasing. . . what can I say, I'm a woman. I needed the blackberry for phone service, e-mail, the internet and calendaring. I have a computer at home and at work so didn't need to do anything "major" with this device and it serves, if not exceeds its purpose.
I have service through t-mobile and actually refused to consider a blackberry that was not sold by either t-mobile or verizon because according to JD Power & Associates, they receive the least customer complaints. I also have had t-mobile for a year and have been very pleased with their service so thankfully, they also sold the 7290.

I've own many phones in the past. So far, this one has topped them off! I didn't want a camara, mp3 player (or other "kid stuff"), but a phone that would do three things: 1.) Be a phone; 2.) eMail; 3.) Calendar and applications that would sync with my Mac in an easy and non-confusing way. I got it!
