Nightmare product!!!.......2005-10-31
Problems with both hardware and drivers make this product a disaster. Biggest problem is system crashing when signal strength is low or lost. Therefore, any maintenance on the access point means that every computer on the network crashes to blue screen. Additonally, installation requires downloading additional programs to delete any old drivers. ALSO, you cannot update the drivers for a wireless adapter on a wireless connection!!! The DWL-AG660 cannot be used in an encrypted environment. WPA is a non starter and WEP is unstable. Tech support has been rude and unhelpful, especially when you tell them that you are having problems with this particular adapter. I hate being so brutal on a review, however this product has surpassed poor and moved into insulting.
I inherited a D-Link network and have found that although the products are extremely difficult to get set up, they work fine when finally set up. The DWL-AG660 is not up to what I have come to expect from D-Link.
A superb card.......2005-07-06
I've been using this card for about three months now. I am able to switch between networks flawlessly. The signal strength is higher than many PCI cards I've used. A friend also has the same card and he is just as happy with it as I am. I have used this card with different Unix/Linux Distros, Windows 2000 SP4, and Windows Xp SP2. The A/B/G functionality makes monitoring and hopping between different networks very convenient. I believe many people who give this card a bad review are having problems with their routers, but they just don't know it. I've tested this card with multiple routers, some keep a good connection, some don't. Keep in mind that there are always going to be a few bad eggs in every batch.

Design
Sony-Ericsson's reputation for cutting edge design is well represented with the Z525a. There's a 128 x 160 display housed under the cover while the outside sports a supplementary 101 x 80 color screen that can display time, call information, battery and signal strength, and more. The VGA (640 x 480) camera is housed on the front cover as well. The z525a uses an internal antenna-- nothing to snag or break off-- and a five-way button just above the dial pad is used to control most of the phone's menus and features. Up/down buttons on the left side of the phone can be used for quick volume control and menu navigation. USB data and charging ports, as well as a headset port, are located on the phone's bottom edge. And because the z525a's front and rear faceplates are changeable with Sony-Ericsson Style-Up covers, you can dress it up to suit your style. Color light effects around the keypad complete the calling and messaging experience.
Calling Features
The Z525a's phone book can hold up to 510 contacts with multiple entries per contact. A call list remembers your most recent missed, received and dialed calls. The phone's voice activated dialing makes calling your friends, family and associates as easy as saying their names. The phone also features a speakerphone for easy, hands-free talking. In addition to a vibrating alert, the phone supports polyphonic ringtones as well as MP3 ringers, allowing you to use portions of your favorite songs to alert you to incoming calls. There's even a bundled application that lets you mix your own ringtones with up to 16 tracks. Meanwhile, more ringtones can be downloaded from Cingular's MEdia Net wireless web service. Picture caller ID lets you assign a photo to specific callers. Similarly, a ringer ID lets you assign ringtones to callers. And don't forget that the Z525a's Bluetooth radio lets you use a wide range of wireless headsets for handsfree calling.
Cingular Push To Talk is a walkie-talkie type service that allows you to instantly reach others by eliminating the dialing and ringing steps in a regular cellular call. Push-to-talk calls can be made to one person or to a group of people. Choose Cingular Push-To-Talk as an add-on service to your voice plan to enable the service on the Z525a. Cingular's unique service allows you to see who is available before you initiate a call. Plus, you can place yourself in "do not disturb" mode if you do not want to receive push-to-talk calls.
Messaging, Internet, and Tools
The Z525a has all the bases covered when it comes to messaging. Support is built in for sending and receiving text, video, graphics and sound via messages. When used in combination with the phone's built-in camera, MMS opens up a whole new world of messaging fun. Instant messaging clients for ICQ, AOL, and Yahoo! are also included and the phone ships with a built-in email client.
Getting on the Internet is easy with the z525a. It supports the GPRS protocol, as well as the high speed EDGE data protocol. When used with a Cingular data plan and the phone's USB and Bluetooth data capabilities, the phone can be used as a wireless modem for laptops and PDAs. There's also a built-in web browser for MEdia Net downloads and mobile web browsing. Cingular's MEdia service lets you receive and send emails, read news headlines, get weather updates, download games and ringtones, and more. T9 text entry, a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit-- a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.
A number of handy software tools are bundled with the z525a, including a voice memo recorder, a to-do list, a calculator, a calendar, and an alarm clock with a timer and stopwatch. Sony Ericsson Sync Station software lets you synchronize your Microsoft Outlook calendar, contacts, notes and tasks with your Z525a.
Imaging and Entertainment
The Z525a was designed for serious fun. The built-in VGA camera captures stills and video (up to 60 seconds) to the phone's 16MB of internal memory. Picture effects and custom screensavers, backgrounds, and themes can be set up to fit your personality.
Java support is built into the Z525a, making it a powerful gaming companion for both online and offline games. Games are downloadable via the MEdia Net service or you can use the handset's USB or Bluetooth data connection to load more games and files onto the phone.
Vital Statistics
The Sony-Ericsson Z525a weighs 3.46 ounces and measures 3.27 x 1.81 x 0.94 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 4.5 hours of digital talk time, and up to 12.5 days of digital standby time. It runs on the GSM/GPRS 850/900/1800/1900 frequencies. The phone comes with a one year limited warranty.

Display died .......2007-12-21
I've just finished calling AT&T yet again to say the display died on my phone. I had the first one for a few months before it happened. They replaced it. The second phone lasted only a couple of months before the same thing happened. I'm dead in the water without the display. I can't call anyone unless I know their number, can't see if I've missed a call or have a message, can't see if my battery needs charging. They won't give me a different model. And if I want a replacement in less than 5 business days, I have to pay $12 for shipping. I am a very unsatisfied customer and will ditch this phone as soon as I'm eligible for an upgrade.
Avoid !.......2007-10-24
Two of my friends had this phone. In both cases the phone died in the same fashion after 15 and 19 months. The screen went blank/ white and nothing could fix it. If you do a web search on Z520 blank screen, you can find that a good chucnk of these phone have this problem!
Good luck!
DO NOT BUY!! BUYER BEWARE!.......2007-10-19
This phone is one of THE WORST phones I've ever had, and that is saying a lot since I mostly get hand-me-down phones, but this one I got new. For the first 2 months it was good, and the features were nice, but after 2 months, it started to turn off for no good reason, and the PPT button would get extremely annoying. I hate the fact that the hinge is not spring loaded, and you have to open it all the way until it clicks which is annoying too.
I have trouble getting service on this phone more than I've had in the past. I also hate the back and clear buttons instead of call and end. It gets confusing, and is very frustrating.
In vibrate mode, the phone is HORRIBLE! You can barely feel it, and after using it a while like texting back and forth with someone, sometimes it doesn't vibrate at all, or is so weak you don't notice it.
Overall, this a horrible phone, even for the money. My old phones all broke, but they lasted A LOT longer than this one ever will. I am very disappointed in this phone and Sony Ericsson. I will never buy another one of their phones, and when I inquired about sending it out to get fixed, they expected me to be without a phone for 4-6 weeks while it was sent out to be repaired. Do not purchase because it will not hold to up, even for me (and I consider myself to be a VERY light user, and I'm always VERY careful with my phones because they are so expensive). NOT WORTH THE MONEY EVEN IF IT IS FREE!!!!
This phone is garbage........2007-10-18
The problems with this phone have been well-documented on here already. I'm just chiming in to say I agree 100% with the customers that are regretting their choice. And I too have friends that have been burned by this phone. Save yourself some major headaches and don't even think about buying this.
I wanted to love it..........2007-10-07
I really wanted to love this phone. It has a broad feature-set and is fun to use - when it works. Unfortunately, it doesn't "work" for long! My neighbor, my husband, and I all got this phone at the same time. Our neighbor's screen died about 2 weeks after we got the phones. My husband's screen died less than a week before the end of the one-year warranty. Fortunately they replaced it, but the replacement phone is only covered for 90 days. (I hope it doesn't break!) Now MY phone's screen has died. I can pay a minimum of $167 to get a replacement phone or "deal with it"- "Sorry, there's nothing we can do." We've heard that a few times throughout all this!
All three of us experienced a large number of dropped calls while using this phone - all while watching the infamous commercials of Cingular (now AT&T) being the network of fewest dropped calls. I dropped calls at least 90% of the time! Or more! No kidding!!! It was horrible. I blamed AT&T until I talked to others and looked online. Apparently, it might just be the fault of this phone.
Bottom line: If you are signing up for a new 2-year contract with AT&T, don't choose this phone! It won't last that long. Again, I know of 4 used by me and my friends, and 3 didn't last one year. The 4th died one week after the end of the warranty. I've researched further, and this problem is not exclusive to us - it is quite common actually! If I had known then what I know now, I would not have purchased/choosen this phone.
