Fast and Secure
Fully compatible with the 802.11g wireless standard at 54 Mbps, with an optional turbo mode for a speedy 108 Mbps when used with supported NETGEAR adapters, the WG102 offers a network connection that is fast and widely compatible. As 802.11g is backwards compatible with 802.11b, you needn't worry about your computers with older network cards not working.
Your data is secure, as the WG102 complies with industry security standards for user authorization and wireless data encryption; 802.11i, WPA2-Enterprise technology will keep your wireless network secure and interoperable. Also supported is MAC address authentication with a 256-user Access Control List and VPN pass-through.
Bridge and Repeater Mode
In addition to functioning as an access point, the access point can also be used as a bridge and as a repeater. Used as a bridge, the device allows you to connect two LANs wirelessly; as a repeater, your wireless signal's range is extended so even the remote corners of your home or office can be covered.
Smart Design and Easy Setup
Thanks to support for the IEEE 802.3af-based Power over Ethernet (PoE) standard, the need for extra cables are eliminated and the access point doesn't have to be put near a power outlet. The Simple Network Management Protocol is supported, allowing you to use any SNMP-based network management software. NETGEAR's Smart Wizard browser-based interface makes setup a snap.

No WPA Security in Bridge Mode!.......2005-12-22
The NG102 works like it should--with one exception that I've found. If you set it up in Bridge Mode, it will NOT work with WPA security--you can only use the inferior WEP security.
WEP can be cracked in under 24 hours (the netgear helpfiles built into the WG102 setup pages even say this), but they still force you to use WEP security when bridging.
Additionally, Netgear's tech support is ABYSMAL. I have submitted several trouble tickets with questions, and it sometimes takes them TWO WEEKS to reply--and even then they did not give a reasonable answer to my question, they gave a stock answer to something I didn't ask. The user suport forum is much better, but you're not guaranteed to get any help there, either.
*** UPDATE: 12/27 - I'd like to downgrade this product to ONE STAR! ***
This access point would lock up at least once a day. The only solution was to unplug the power and plug it back in.
I found it had particular difficulty when trying to transfer files over the local network and when running internet speed tests (such as www.speakeasy.net/speetest). Somehow they seemed to confuse or overwhelm the access point, and it had to be hard-reset. Neither of those activities should have caused it any trouble at all--especially not this (much more expensive) "business-class" access point.
After spending way too much time troubleshooting the problem, I have finally given up and will return it.
Works as it should.......2005-12-10
This product works as it should. I run a linux server off of my cable modem. I've tried multiple consumer priced wireless routers, but they all (3 of them!) had lock-up issues or slowness. I now have a complete "Netgear blue box" solution- the FR114P wired router with the WG102 wireless access point connected to it. I also have a Netgear GS108 gigabit switch. All are attached to my Motorola SB5100 cable modem. No lockups and my server is working wonderfuly well (I serve email and web for a handful of relatives.) It seems that this wireless access point is a bit more expensive than it should be, but I'm glad to finally have reliable networking! Now to get a wireless print server...

Excellent RF Remote.......2007-12-24
I just bought this remote, for I bought a new condo that had all Home Theater stuff moved into a closet away from the tv, so i needed RF capabilities. Previously I had a Sony Remote Commander. I am impressed with the RF & Infrared capabilities of the remote. For infrared, it actually works better than the packaged remote with my tv (better range). The programming is simple enough and if you still have your remotes for each component, it is super simple to teach this remote every capability that each remote had.
I completely recommend this as a cheap alternate to the Logitech Harmony remotes (if you have the means, go with them for they are more glamourous).
Absolutely Amazing.......2007-12-18
I bought this remote control so that I could watch the contents of my cable box from the bedroom which is about 20 feet away, behind 3 walls. It works flawlessly. The RF signal is strong enough. Sometime you may need to put the RF/IR converter in front of the cable box, but that's not a big deal. This absolutely beats buying a separate cable box. Besides, I can watch the contents of the DVR. The remote control is very "clever" -- it really can learn anything your other remote controls can do. I strongly recommend this.
Exactly what I was looking for.......2007-12-17
I purchased this remote to help my wife and kids operate the tv, cable box, dvd, and tuner with one remote and to access components that are behind closed cabinet doors. Overall this product succeeds to deliver on what I was looking for. The setup was fairly easy but did take me a few hours to complete. I really like the macros that allow me to be operating the cable box but increase the volume of the tuner rather than the cable box. Same goes for the power on and power off macros that allow me to turn on/off all my components with a single press of a button. The cable setting allows me most of the control of my cable box, including the cable guide. The only change i would like to see is dedicated buttons on the remote for page up/down for the cable guide.
The RF functionality works pretty well, although sometimes I have problems getting the volume to work with the doors shut but that could be user error. My wife hated that we had to have the cabinet doors open in order to watch TV so this is a really nice feature.
The remote is about the same size as my old cable remote. The display isn't anything special but is effective. This remove is much less expensive than some of the Harmony remotes and seems to perform all the needed functionality so I would recommend this remote to anyone!
Great product.......2007-12-12
This is a great product. At first I was intimidated/confused in reading the directions on how to program the remote. Once I watched the DVD provided I found programming to be extremely simply. I now have the remote programed to control a large panel LCD above the mantel and a cable box plus a DVD player hidden in a closet. While setting up my favorite channels I was able to edit the description and order of the channels very simply. I would strongly recommend this unit.

I bought this remote because I have an xbox with linux on it, surround, a projector, comcast cable with dvr, and a flat panel (vizio), and I had too many remotes. To make matter worse, All of my equipment is in my office closet on the second floor of the house. I used IR repeaters but there was too much noise and my wife just got too frustrated with trying to point the remote in the exact spot. Pain in the arse. Literally sometimes it would take me standing up moving the IR repeater a hair and take 30 seconds just to find that sweet spot, sts, for the channel to change once.
I browsed the harmony remotes but I didn't want to spend money on battery issues. I was afraid of the range from downstairs to upstairs and through the closet.
Unboxing took the most amount of time since that sucker was in there good. I read the first pages on how to enter the codes for my 'stuff' and started pressing the buttons. Ten seconds later I had my TV turning on and off and full functionality. I can now sit downstairs, with my comcast dvr upstairs in a closet and just randomly point the remote anywhere I want to and get a crisp response that my IR repeater never got. Also, the PowerBlaster I only put one IR blaster on the wall and it is plenty strong enough for all of my equipment to receive the burst. I love the remote and I am buying a second one for upstairs to power my projector and surround sound and xboxmc. My wife is totally impressed I didn't screw this up. Get this remote...it is easy and very responsive, with an extremely strong range. It can learn special buttons as well. Good luck.
