The previous reviews helped me finalize my decision to purchase this item. The cradle works exactly as promised. I wanted a desktop cradle so that I wouldn't have to be constantly searching for or tripping over the wire for the charger. As with previous reviews for this product- keep in mind this is only a cradle- you need to purchase the wire for charging seperately or use the charging wire that came with the phone to connect to the cradle. Honestly, I would have paid a slight premium to have the wire connected permanently and have a separate portable charging wire that came with the phone (rather than having to make an entirely seperate purchase for no solid reason). Also the cradle was designed so that you can not keep any kind of protective gear attached while in place (i.e. leather or silcon skin).

This clean-looking & simple little device [ASIN:B000HE8RI6 Motorola Q Desktop Charging Station] & [ASIN:B000HE5298 Motorola Moto Q Dual Pocket Desktop Charging Station] does all it's expected to: Connects Moto Q to Outlook on computer via MS ActiveSync (USB cable), keeps battery charged without removing it from Moto Q (via either USB cable or travel charger - either, not both, at one time), charges a spare battery in a second slot (with travel charger), & Moto Q is fully-functional in device (either USB or travel charger, same as above). No setup required, assuming ActiveSync is already configured for Q via USB cable. Obviously, you have to remove the Q from any case it may be in & then just slide it in the slot with built-in side plug. All in all, very convenient with minimal desktop footprint, and Q can be always charged & ready to go. Note: 'Not sure how long it would take via USB cable, if ever, to charge a fully-discharged battery while it was still in the Q (USB ports have power limitations).... Motorola doesn't recommend charging via USB, but it does seem to work fairly quickly for a battery that isn't deeply discharged.

Got this product, opened the box ready to charge and sync from work only to find out it did not come with a cable and the accessory port doesn't match the cable that came with my Q making this product absolutely worthless. I now have to spend more money to get this product to work at all. I recommend finding something else to buy.

The "charger" is perfect if 1) you use an extended battery and/or extra batteries, and 2) if you don't have a rubber skin on your phone, since it won't fit in the charger.
I have an extended battery, and the charger accomodates the extended battery whether it is on the phone or placed directly in the battery charging slot. The charger first charges the phone, then charges the extra battery in the battery slot, which makes a lot of sense.
The Motorola belt holster works great, I recommend it instead of a skin case.

Only fits Moto Q, not the newer Q 9h or Q 9c. Has a mini usb adapter not the micro usb needed for the Q 9h. Asside from that the unit is great will fit either battery, standard or extended life. will also fit the phone with the extended battery installed unlike the boxwave unit that will handle the Q 9h or any situation involving the extended battery. Great unit just pay attention to which phone it is for.

After reading J. Bailey's review, I almost passed on this item. I am SO glad I took a chance and bought it! It does everything the spec's claim without a hitch.
I'm using a desktop computer with powered USB port, one extended life battery (in the Q) and one standard size backup battery. The charger AND data sync work fine with the same cable at the same time. (Not sure why Jay had so many problems with this unit - perhaps an underpowered USB port? This is covered in the documantaion as a footnote.)
The snug fit of the Q in this charger base is a BIG plus! I have used other chargers that had a looser fit and I often had to wiggle the Q to get it to line up with the mini USB plug inside the charger saddle - Not with this unit - It alignes perfectly and slides right in with one hand!
This charger is also heavier than the products I've used in the past, which is really nice when using the Q, again with one hand, while in the charger - it stays put on the desk (as long as the rubber feet are dust free).
One caution involving the battery indicator light: When I inserted the Q and a spare battery at the same time, the indicator showed a flashing red light after 2 - 3 minutes. The documentation describes this as a "bad battery" light. But as soon as the Q was done charging, this light turned to a flashing green ("charging") and the battery charged without any problem. The light turned to solid green when the spare battery was fully charged about an hour later.
I give this product a 10! It addressed all the reasons I bought it with flying colors: Data synce while charging in a nice, solid, attractive interface, able to charge Q and spare battery together, automatically, overnight without the use of a separate power supply and cable. The one handed operation was a nice surprise.
Totally worthless........2007-09-29
You've GOT to be kidding. Great charger? This is poorly designed and nearly useless. You cannot charge and sync at the same time because Motorola didn't think the design through. Unlike my Treo charger, you can't plug a power source AND the USB cable into this unit at the same time. So you can EITHER charge or SYNC but not both. Before you say you can sync AND charge from the USB port, this doesn't work with this phone on most USB ports because it draws too much power, and a standard USB port supplies only enough power to maintain the battery, not charge it. I know this for sure, because I tested it on several desktops and laptops. Not only that, but most systems are setup to go to sleep and power down the USB ports in sleep mode. So you plug your phone in, it syncs, then the PC goes to sleep and in the morning... dead phone. All motorola had to do is THINK for 5 minutes when they were designing this and they would have seen that this design is extremely poor. Not only that, but the fit of the phone is SO tight that you can't put the phone in the cradle without removing the silicone "skin" that many people use to protect their phones. Every time. What a PAIN. This thing deserves ZERO stars.
great charger.......2006-09-19
If you own a Q, you know the battery life with the standard battery is horrible. This charger also has a slot for a 2nd battery, which is great. So I can charge my phone with the standard battery, and have the extended one Verizon sells in the back slot. Never having to worry about battery life again. Also, it makes a wonderful stand for the phone, and when hooked to the USB cable, you get data conectivity too. Only downside, it won't charge the extended battery until the phone is fully charged.
