Upon opening package on Christmas day, the USB cable was found to be defective and it will take a week or so to get it replaced. This put a damper on what should have been a great gift for my son since he can't really use it.

I got my 30gig Zune as an X-mas gift and took it for a test run today. It's a really awesome mp3 player so far, nice storage for the price paid for it, easy setup and software updating. I even thought that the packaging was pretty neat. Synced right up to the music on my computer and ripped a cd with no flub. Not a very detailed review but I'm happy with this product.

Very poor offering.......2007-12-22
I really wanted to like this radio and the cool little South Dakota company that created it. I am fortunate to be in a metropolitan area where I can select from 20 HD radio stations, and I own several HD radios that I have really enjoyed for the most part.
Although it is only $100, this radio is surprisingly cheaply made and tinny sounding. The amplifier is greatly under-powered as well, and I had the volume almost to maximum to listen on headphones.
The radio does not have a remote control, and does not take full advantage of the information that is broadcast in digital. It also looks like a portable but does not run on batteries.
I would not recommend purchasing this unit, there are far better options out there. Not cheaper options, but certainly better.

I am an avid radio listener and like to have a radio in any area of the house I spend significant time. There a number of stations broadcasting in HD in the Seattle area. I use this radio to listen to news mostly though it is okay with a local university jazz station. That station has two steams during the day. My main news station has three streams. I love the BBC and one of those streams is BBC 24hrs a day. My shortwave is now just my Ray Taliaferro radio, so I can hear his nightly show on KGO San Francisco. I don't use the alarm or sleep function as I Keep this radio in my main dining area. I am very happy with this unit and HD technology in general. Especially for the price I consider it an outstanding value. Standard FM and AM just don't cut it for me anymore.
good value, weak sound.......2007-12-14
I bought the Radiosophy specifically for 24/7 access to BBC news, which is available as an HD channel on a local radio station.
It's more than adequate for talk radio: the sound is clean, and its small footprint works well in my kitchen. But for those of you who are looking for a standalone music-radio player, I would not recommend this product, unless you like your music at low volumes, and in the background. While the music sounds clean, the speakers just can't crank out much sound.
Furthermore, the power supply is large, stays warm, and if unplugged, resets the presets, clock, and custom settings. And if your house is prone to sporadic power outages, don't even think of using this as a clock radio.
The analog FM reception is just so-so with the supplied antenna. It's not nearly as good as my analog boombox.
Also, using the AM antenna messed up my HD-FM reception.
If you're looking for a low-cost tabletop HD radio for talk radio or quiet background music, then this unit will suffice, and is a good value. Otherwise, I would consider spending a bit more for a higher-fidelity unit.
What a strange product.......2007-12-06
The sound really is great. This is the first HD radio I've heard, and I'm impressed. Everything else is questionable. The controls are cheap (you can feel the panel moving behind the facade when you push a button, threatening to break off), setup is confusing, and the display is too small to be useful as a clock. Also it lacks a backup power source, making it not a great choice as an alarm. When the alarm does go off, the display flashes maniacally. Why? I want to wake up to music, not fireworks. I don't understand why an HD receiver can't be put into an existing clock-radio chassis with proper controls, display size and alarm.
Couple days later... the radio alarm has stopped working. May have to send it back.
Very nice little HD radio.......2007-12-04
I have been wanting to try HD radio but was unwilling to spend big bucks on a larger radio until I know whether or not I would like it. I bought this to "try" HD and not be out as much. It turns out that I really like HD radio: my area has a lot of great HD stations and the sound quality IS better than regular FM. I have had satellite in the past, liked the programming but got tired of the price; HD is a reasonable substitute. DO check you area before buying any HD radio; not all areas have HD yet.
The radio itself has small speakers- so don't expect to be overwhelmed. It does sound surprisingly good for the size, however, not nearly as cheap as one might think. The controls are intuitive but it does come with a good instruction manual. This radio is very portable and attractive, perfect for an office or where lower volume is needed. There is no remote, but all necessary controls are located on the front of the radio. It has a great "seek" feature that can seek all stations in your area or just HD stations. There is a HD station indicator light to show when you are locked into an HD station; there is no light for regular analog. There are easy to operate preset buttons that will hold 5 FM and 5 AM stations.
I have not noticed any problems with the power box overheating, but then I always unplug these types of power boxes when not in use. Most will get really warm if left plugged in all the time.
There is a clock radio included in the controls and auxillary jack in the back. It comes with an attached FM antenna and an AM antenna.
I am very, very pleased with this radio. Should Radiosophy come out with a larger unit, I would gladly buy it but keep this one for its portability, decent sound, and ease of operation. I recommend it.
