Images and music combine in this easy-to-use portable digital audio player. Toshiba's snazzy, black-acrylic Gigabeat MEG-F10K packs a 1.8-inch Toshiba hard drive capable of holding 10 GB of digital media: MP3 and WMA compressed audio and even uncompressed, full-resolution WAV files. That's about 2,500 songs (more than 150 complete albums) at 128 kbps MP3, 5,000 songs at 64 kbps WMA, and a still-impressive 275 or so songs (or 19 hours) of CD-resolution WAV files.
A major feature of the player is its bright, crystal-clear, 2.2-inch LCD with 240 x 320 resolution and the ability to render over 65,000 colors. It's there so you can experience the visual as well as the aural component of your entertainment. The Gigabeat lets you download and view album covers, search for your favorite tracks by scrolling through those album covers, or even set a favorite album cover as your background image. You can download any digital still picture from your PC and create custom slideshows, too--and set them to music.
Gigabeat may be versatile, but it's also easy to operate. Its PlusTouch sensor control lets you scroll through its intuitive menus using only a soft touch or pass of your fingertip.
The PC-only Gigabeat is "Plays for Sure"-certified by Microsoft, which means that it will operate with any "Plays for Sure" download site or management software when connected to your PC. Gigabeat is automatically recognized by Windows Media Player 10, so there's no need to install new drivers of any kind. Toshiba has also partnered with Napster to provide Napster's "Napster To Go" software, giving you the option of using Napster To Go, Windows Media Player, and/or the supplied Gigabeat Room management software (Gigabeat Room is required for transfer of photo images).
So what about your CD collection? After all, you'll likely be able to stash the entire thing in here, one way or another. Thanks to a unique feature called CD RipRec, all you have to do is place a CD in your PC and press the CD RipRec button while the Gigabeat is docked in its cradle. CD RipRec will launch the software and transfer compressed audio to your Gigabeat quickly and with no further effort on your part. Using a USB 2.0 connection (cable supplied), CD RipRec can transfer the contents of an entire CD to the Gigabeat in as little as 5 minutes.
If Gigabeat's battery life (up to 16 hours) isn't enough to satisfy your entertainment needs, fret not. Rather than carrying your AC adapter everywhere, simply connect the Gigabeat to any PC with a USB cable and the battery will charge itself again.
Other features include a choice of 10- or 60-second intro scan to help you find a desired song, multilingual support (Japanese, English, French, Chinese, Spanish, and German), and 28 user selectable equalizer settings, and SRS WOW, which simulates surround sound from any two speakers (including headphones).

Not someplace I would buy from again. The product does not work as described. We have attempted to contact the seller. The phone only has answering machine for a message and they NEVER return the calls. We contacted Toshiba and they sent new discs and everything to try and fix the machine and then told us to return it to the seller. We are STILL trying to do that with NO SUCCESS. "Beware"

This is a great, simple mp3 player. I don't mean simple as in it's features because it has some that an IPOD doesn't have, but simple as in easy to use. It took me 5 minutes to download the software, get it hooked up and started ripping cds. I am a busy parent and to me, I-tunes is just way too much work. With this, you put in a cd, push a button on the docking cradle and that's it, it does the rest.
Costly mistake.......2006-07-22
I was unable to get the software for transferring music to this device to work properly. After several frustrating episodes, I ordered Windows XP so that I could use Microsoft Windows Media Player 10 which, according to the documentation, could also be used. It made no difference. Thankfully, Amazon allowed me to return the product. Overall, the experience was very frustrating and costly. I paid a 20% re-stocking fee because I did not return it within 30 days and I paid $188 for XP. As a final note, I find XP to be considerably more cumbersome than the Windows 2000 I replaced. Not an experience I care to repeat.

I'm the kind of guy who listens to his MP3 Player constantly. More than 6 hours a day. This product is alright and is not really worth the money.
Pros: Pictures and music. Plays both WMA and MP3. Nice screen and easy to use. Sound quality is alright
Cons: The Gigaroom(software) sucks and is not as good as Musicmatch and iTunes. The casing is easily broken. Can't make playlists on the player. Can't look at playlist with out going to the main menu.
It's annoying and an iPod or even a Dell Jukebox will be worth more of your money. Just do your research and be careful what you buy.

Poor Design.......2007-10-28
The tilt mechanism is poorly designed and is essentially worthless. I attached a Vizio 26" TV (16 lbs) and the VM3B won't hold the screen at the angle I want. The VM3B is supposedly rated to hold up to 30 lbs.
At first I just cranked the large "Wing-Nut" as tight as I could with my fingers. Then I resorted to using a pair of plyers and tighten it as far as I dare without breaking off the "wings" and it still won't hold the screen. Sanus needs to use serrated teeth in order for the tilt mechanism to work correctly.
I've had to resort to wedging a piece of stiff foam in between the TV and the wall to keep the TV at the desired angle.
Spend your money elsewhere.

The tilt mechanism would not hold up a 16 lb. 20 inch LCD, even though it says it supports up to 30 lbs. The bolt that is supposed to be locked in the factory was failing. Called the company and they sent a replacement mechanism, which was scratched and used. That too failed. I tried to explain this to the woman on the phone but she was very rude, not helpful and very defensive. She tried to tell be I wasn't tightening it properly. I told her I could tork on it for five hours and it wouldn't help because it was the factory bolt that was failing. I can't understand how a company like this can have such crude support and products. It's a pretty simple concept and I didn't expect it to drag on for three weeks.
