The compact unit also boasts a 13 MB Americas marine basemap that includes tide data. In addition, an impressive 115 MB of internal memory lets you load optional MapSource BlueChart or Recreational Lakes with Fishing Hot Spots marine cartography. (The award-winning BlueChart features depth contours, inter-tidal zones, wrecks, and navaids, while Recreational Lakes includes fishing areas, boat ramps, marinas, and hazards for more than 1,000 popular U.S. and Canadian lakes.)

You can rely on the 76CS when you're navigating the highways and byways in your rudderless vehicle, too, thanks to a built-in, auto-routing basemap of major interstates and highways. When loaded with optional MapSource City Select detailed street cartography, the GPS provides automatic route calculation to millions of addresses or points of interest, complete with turn-by-turn directions and tone alerts. The unit is also compatible with MapSource U.S. Topo and 24K Topo for off-road excursions.

Loading charts or maps is faster than it was with earlier-generation devices, too, thanks to the 76CS's USB interface. Navigation instructions can be shared with repeaters, plotters, and autopilots using NMEA protocols through a dedicated serial port.

The 76CS also includes an electronic compass--which displays accurate headings even while standing still--and a barometric altimeter with an elevation computer that provides current elevation, ascent/descent rate, minimum/maximum elevation, total ascent/descent, and average/maximum ascent/descent rate.

Other features include a built-in quad helix antenna with remote antenna capability; 1,000 user waypoints with name and graphic symbols; 50 reversible routes; a 10,000-point automatic track log; 20 saved tracks (so you can retrace your path in both directions); audible alarms for anchor drag, arrival, off-course, proximity waypoint, and clock; and a trip computer that provides, among other things, an odometer, stopped time, moving average, overall average, total time, and max speed.

Battery life using 2 AA alkaline batteries is rated at 20 hours typical use. The 76CS is waterproof to IEC 60529 IPX-7 standards (submersible to 1 meter for up to 30 minutes).

I originally purchased the GPS to use with my jet ski with the option to use it for navigtion around town as a secondary function. Seadoo designed special glove boxes to flush mount one of these units due to their superior waterproof ability to handle the wet environment experienced in skiing. However the City Navigator software coupled with the portable GPSMAP series provides an even more incredible combo worth far more then the dedicated units in my opinion. Overall it is very easy to transfer tracks from the unit to record fishing drifts and plot waypoints and routes on your computer for download into the GPS handheld. Instead of printing google maps, I use the mapping software to create waypoints and routes to all my destinations.

The unit itself is a little bulky but the larger issue is the maps. The unlocking process is just brutal. Its not worth the aggravation. Stay away. And just so you know, I'm an IT professional and this is the most difficult product I think I ever worked with.

As a game warden in Florida there is a need for a GPS. We locate illegal hunting site quite often. When the time comes to catch the poacher we usually can't approach the site the way the poachers do. We have to come through different and unfamiliar ways. Sometimes through thick woods, swamps or other obstacle covered ways. This GPS with the contour maps and blue water disk is extremely helpful.. I would recommened this item to all.

Perfect, Versatile GPS Unit.......2006-06-05

This is my second Garmin unit. My first was the eMap. I loved that one so I only researched other garmin units. This one had everything I wanted. I use it on the road, hiking the AT and marine navigation. To get more than simple use you have to purchased additional software. City Select for detailed local street level, Blue Charts for bathometric charts and topo for hiking. Battery life is excellent! The unit is larger than my eMap, but very light and water proof.
The only con to this unit is the lack of expandable memory. My eMap could accept cards with additional maps. That really hasn't effected my use. I'm a big Garmin fan from software to the handheld units.

Just what I was looking for!.......2007-10-02

I looked for something like this in furniture stores locally, but everything I saw was massive and expensive. This audio rack was just what I needed, was easy to order, easy to assemble, and was delivered in record time. Now I know where to shop!

Mixed Opinion.......2007-05-13

The cabinet itself is nice, and certainly fulfills its function, but I feel it's over-engineered in terms of how it's made to go together. Be careful with assembly, as the design incorporates a series of pegs and plastic locking cams, and if you don't line everything up correctly you risk breaking the particle board. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to put the thing together, the number of bells and whistles were inadequately explained by an instruction manual that was done completely with pictures. I would have appreciated something more than cave-paintings, and a word description or three would have made the assembly process a lot less frustrating. No complaints with the final product, however.

The only major heartburn I had with the deal has to do with the packaging. The cabinet pieces were inadequately padded, allowing excessive movement in the box and resulting in a number of surface scratches. Watch out for that. Good luck!

Very Nice A/V Rack.......2007-05-05

Very happy with this A/V rack. Cloth back on unit to allow for larger components and will still hide them, but don't waste your time with the sticky tabs on the cloth, it constantly will fall off. Just take finish nails to it. Only real complaint is the wheels. On a carpet causes unit to feel wobbly and you can not take them off or unit sits slanted due to bottom of unit has decorative front at bottom (non removable). But you don't usually move it once your setup, so it is somewhat petty. Unit is very nice looking.
