Lasted just about one year .......2007-07-11
Bought this phone because I wanted a red cordless phone for my kitchen. The guarantee ran out -- the phone started to malfunction -- not holding a charge, indicating on the screen that it couldn't connect with the base unit (I was standing right next to the base unit). I replaced the battery -- thinking it was a battery issue. I never used the phone in the water or dropped it -- two situations Panasonic advertised that this phone could survive. Problem is, the phone couldn't survive infrequent conventional use (I use my cell phone more often).
I called Panasonic customer service. Panasonic "generously" offered to let me buy another phone from them at $80 less a special 15% discount -- more than I paid for the phone when I purchased it. They told me that it was out of warranty, something I already knew before I called them.
Panasonic has terrible customer service and shoddy products. My advice, buy another brand of phone. I won't be bothering with Panasonic in the future. Life's too short for that kind of aggravation.
The portable RED phone.......2007-03-08
I am very pleased with the range and battery life of this phone.
EXCELLENT PHONE.......2006-05-21
MY WIFE AND I ARE BOTH DISABLED. WE WERE LOOKING TO UPDATE OUR PHONES, TO A STRONGER AND CLEARER CONNECTION,VERY EASY TO SET UP & NOT TO MENTION THE SPEAKER IN THE HANDSET MAKES IT A JOY WHEN YOU NEED TO GO TO THE RESTROOM OR CAN USE ONLY ONE ARM
< IN MY WIFE'S CASE > WE WILL EVENTUALLY REPLACE ALL OF OUR PHONES WITH THIS MODEL. QUITE ATTRACTIVE AND NOT TOO SMALL. ALSO I MIGHT MENTION IT WAS RECOMMENDED BY A.A.R.P. / MR. TIROFF
Not as great as all the reviews say-this messed me up!.......2006-03-10
The product is nice, looks great and it very durable, but I can still hear some kind of background noise when talking on it. The reason for this purchase in general is because our apartment has wireless internet, so I wanted a cordless phone that does not interfere with it. After I have turned on the voice enhancement feature, my husband could not hear me while calling from his cell phone. I do not know the reason for that, but I turned it off. =)
Besides that, i like the way it rings(couple of melodies to choose from, all are on the softer side so if someone calls at 6AM you wont jump up your bed) and the color!
I dont know if I would suggest to buy it and claim its the best phone out there, but its aight!
Go Panasonic Red KX-TG5428.......2006-02-24
This is a great telephone. It feels like an office product,
not one that was knocked off in the Far East (which it was)
for unaware consumers. My only problem with it is that the
battery doesn't like to be continuously charged, i.e., it
has a longer life if not always in the dock. I can live with
that. I wish I had the leisure time to discover all its
features, but given that it should last for years, I'll
eventually figure out how to program it so the antennas light
up (in amber, red, green, or multicolor) when my favorite person calls (see pages 24-25 in the Operating Instructions).

Network Printing Heaven.......2007-10-09
I wanted to use an up to date wireless print server, i.e. Dlink DPR-1260. Alas my medium format HP1000c printer is too old and too expensive to replace. This is the only network parallel port print server solution I could find. Make sure you check the printer compatibility list. Set up is easy if you don't try anything fancy. I did set it up using DHCP instead of a fixed address just to see if I could do it. Yup, it worked. Never thought printing a test page could be so exciting.
Simplicity and compactness.......2007-08-31
We've been using our PS 101 for a couple years. I have had to figure out how to hook it up several times for new laptops on our wireless network. Type in the "Netgear PS 101" name and "driver:- download it, un zip, and follow the prompts. Our old HP 6P loves it!
AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.......2007-07-15
In the span of less than 60 minutes, this device drove me to drink.
It will work with a Mac, this is true. I got it to print. Once. But you need a Windows machine to actually set it up, which my wife has just feet away from my Macs. So we ran the software that came with it ... and it cooked XP.
So I called tech support. After 26 minutes and three transfers to different support reps, two of whom spoke a variation of English that is not compatible with mine, where all I wanted to know was, "DOES THIS WORK WITH A MAC?" I was told, no. EVEN AFTER I GOT IT TO WORK!
I gave up at that point ... I'm just going to get a longer USB cable for my printer and use the share printer option on one of my Macs. If we can ever resurrect the XP box, that is ...
Avoid - setup is ridiculous.......2007-06-03
I got a PS101 after having very good luck with a similar D-Link DP-101P+ pocket print server. We use Macs, which the setup software does not support.
No problem with the DP-101P, just used the Web Admin feature. The D-Link had a default IP address and was easy to connect to with a web browser. One-time setup with a fixed IP address. My only complaint is that the D-Link has no way to tell you what the new IP address is if you forget it. Some print servers have a button which will print a settings page when the print server is connected to a printer. There is also no reset button to return to factory defaults. Write the new IP address on the DP-101P itself so you have it handy.
The Netgear PS101 is another story.
1. As with the DP-101P, there is no button to print out settings, and no reset button. Even though the manual refers to a "diagnostic button" (print settings/reset button), which some other Netgear print servers have, there is not one.
2. The default IP address does not come with the manual.
The manual does not mention a default IP address. Instead it says the PS101 can come up with an IP address in a certain range:
"When NETGEAR PS101 Print Server is without an IP address ... and there is no DHCP server to automatically get an IP address, it will self-assign a unique IP address. The address range is from 169.254.0.1 to 169.254.254.254"
However support says there is a default IP address of 192.168.0.150.
3. BUT ...
you can only use the default IP address if you are not connected to a router (network) which assigns an IP address. My web browser could not access the PS101 at the default IP address when connected directly to it (computer to PS101 via ethernet cable), although that might work for some.
The networks I have used normally assign computers an IP address by DHCP. This is great for computers, but does not work well for a print server. The PS101 comes setup to get an IP address by DHCP. So if you connect the PS101 to a network to use Web Admin, you cannot connect until you figure out what IP address it got assigned. Very unfriendly.
4. Changing settings via web admin would not work.
Netgear has some odd terminology. "Reset" in the Web Admin means upload new setting that you have set and "saved" in the Web Admin screens. When I clicked on reset I lost my web connection to the PS101, so maybe it did reset. I have not been able to tell if this works, because ...
5. If you unplug the PS101 it reverts to the factory default settings. So it loses the fixed IP address you just assigned. For my purposes this effectively means I cannot use it with a fixed IP address. As noted by H. Oh in another review:
"Unplugging the cord will rest the unit to the factory default.
It means that you have to set it again on every power interruption.
A never-heard-concept in IT industry!! "
This is ridiculous.
The workaround seems to be to set your network's router to always assign the same IP address to the PS101 via DHCP. This involves specifying the PS101's MAC address in the router setup so the router knows when the PS101 turns up on the network.
Netgear support spent a lot of time with me but was not able to explain the above problems or help me get the setup done. The PS101 may work OK if you have a Windows computer and can run the Netgear Setup Wizard, but even then the reset on losing power makes this a poor choice.
Good luck.

Works With Linux.......2007-05-19
I've had an excellent experience with mine. It's small, simple, and compatible with my HP Deskjet 812C. I've had no trouble with Ubuntu, Red Hat, CentOS, and Gentoo. Nor has my wife had trouble with Windows XP. I bought this to replace a huge external print server. I appreciate that this one is about so small. Very simple to use.
