The Panasonic KXTG5480S Digital Cordless Phone features a 5.8 GHz Giga Range Frequency-Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) Technology. This technology improves calling range and clarity which eliminates cross talk to someone else's phone calls. This cordless system also helps reduce the possibility of eaves dropping because of its rapidly changing transmission frequencies within the 5.8 GHz bandwidth. This technology also operates on a different wavelength with much less traffic than the previous 2.4 HGz tecnology but still has the high levels of security, clarity and range. No need to worry about interference with wireless computer networks either. The Panasonic KXTG5480S has two lines with a LED in-use line indicator. If you have two outside phone lines connected, this unit supports up to 40way conferencing with 2 outline lines, base, and handset. Call Waiting, Caller ID, displays the information of a second caller even while you're on the line. This All-Digital Answering System requires no tapes to reset or rewind. Operation is virtually silent. Once callers reach the answering system, they will be guided through the task of leaving a message. A total of 1hour worth of messages can be stored. Date and time stamps are automatically recorded with the messages as they are received. Got one at local officemax store.
The deciding factor was the answering machine's recording time length
(60 minutes) for phone messages. Of course, getting a $129.99 phone for half price helped a lot also. (in-store coupons and clearance pricing).
For years I had an old full-sized cassette answering machine. 2 tapes; one for the outgoing message, another to record calls. It recorded until the tape ran out. Almost an hour, with 120 minute tapes.
[Unfortunately it had NO features like digital display showing the # of calls, and other things like that]
Once that unit crapped out, I was stuck with wimpy 10 to 12 minute answering machines.
[It is now May 2007. As cheap as PC ram is, you would think someone would have answering machines with memory add-on slots, so you could "ADD" more answering time].
Moving on:
I like the blinking light on the handset antenna, alerting you that you have new messages. Or alerting you when the phone starts ringing.
[Depends on situation]. Flash rate differs according to situation.
Dual antennas are nice. Walked all the way out to the mailbox without any problems in reception.
My last phone was a panasonic also. Lasted a long time.
No problems communicating with anyone I talk with.

Another reviewer mentioned this before I bought this but I thought maybe it wa just one bad unit. No. People constantly tell me they can't hear me. I can hear them fine. This is a product defect. Also, my previous 2-line Panasonic had caller ID on the base. You must know how important that is; I can't believe they took off this feature. If privacy was their reason, there are ways around that (like having an option of no ID on the base in setup). I REALLLLY miss that!! Most features are pretty good but they are wiped out by the need to yell into the phone. Oh, also, the speaker phone part is bogus. That is fine to have it in the handset, but that is THE ONLY PLACE it is available. Shop further until Panasonic fixes this.

This phone is extremely good with so many features for each line (2 line capable), that I was very surprised when I purchased it below $100.00.
You can separate each line's features according to your needs. It's an answering service machine too! The optional headset does not come with it, but you can order one from Panasonic: model KX-TCA98.there are other models, and styles available to choose from, but get the same brand name as the phone system for a super perfect sound clarity. Extremely satisfied with this purchase!

The Panasonic KX-TG5480 system has been a great phone for me during my busy season. I have only had it installed for a month or so ;but so far as I can tell thus far, Kudos to Panasonic.

I bought this for my work at home office. Its great! I get NO interference from wifi or other electronics in the home. I have it located in my sunroom/office and can go out into the yard, basement, 2nd story, no problems with reception. I can even go out into my detached garage! I bought a headset and walk around on my conference calls all day instead of having to sit at my desk. I am still ramping up on all the bells and whistles, but so far it is making my work day more productive and smoother.
