This expandable system can handle up to 8 handsets. The 5.8 GHz technology offers you the best available performance when it comes to clarity, range, and security. To be on the 5.8 GHz wavelength means you're on a much less trafficked area of the bandwidth than both the 2.4 GHz and 900 MHz products occupy. This 802.11/Wi-Fi friendly phone will not interfere with your wireless network.
The answering machine offers three separate mailboxes and a 15-minute total record time. The phones feature caller ID with call waiting functionality (with service subscription), a 45 name/number CID memory, and a 20 name/number phonebook directory. Other phone features include:

Great deal.......2007-12-21
We received the phone system very quickly and it works perfectly as a replacement for the same system we had for over 2 years that was beginning to wear out from use. Since we had already been using this system there was no learning time for all the features - we just replaced the spent one and ran its replacement just as before (my mother is in her 80s, so not having to relearn another system made her very happy), and the price now was much less to do so.

This product was originally given good marks by Consumer Reports..... so thats why I bought it, but it's a piece of garbage. Like other reviews, no range at all. Also, lots of static and hissing and pops on the line with this phone. The previous phone I had was a 900mhtz phone and I could go to my neighbors house and talk clearly. Not with this piece of dung. I'd be lucky to be able to go into the next room. VTech blows.
DISAPPOINTED.......2006-02-25
I recently purchased the A5859, and must say that I am disappointed with its performance. It has no back-up, so that when I've had power failures, I've had to reprogram in all my data, including, dates, day, time, etc. The instructions are not easy to understand either, and there are numerous features, that are difficult to figure out.

This system is of poor quality. At first, I thought it felt cheap then when the battery charged and I strated using the system, it was the worse sound quality I have ever had on a cordless phone. I returned the product after 2 days of use.
Range is awful.......2006-01-02
I have checked the manual to see if there was something I could do to improve the range of the handset. Their suggestion was to move the base unit elsewhere. Its a answering machine and phone charger I don't want it elsewhere. I have had other cordless phones in the same location with no problems. I threw away the extra handset because it was of no use. The range I get is, in the same room or maybe up to 30 feet away. Vtech has lost me as a customer forever.
