Disappointed.......2007-08-15
After reading the Amazon customer reviews and ignoring Consumer Reports, I learned my lesson. This phone sounds even worse than my last one if that is possible. The voice quality is terrible and I have had to hang up on several callers because I couldn't understand what they were saying. The answering machine recordings sound like they're under water AND in a cave at the same time!!! How very sad to have wasted money on this product.

The two handsets work just a they are supposed to. In fact, I am surprised at all to the features, and how clear the sound is on them. I am very well pleased with their operation.

Its 2.4Ghz from the phone to the base!!! it will disrupt your wireless equipment. Its simply a blunt lie. look for panasonic if you want true 5.8.

I bought the VTech handset as a second unit for the VTech i6821. The system has excellent tech qualities, but the components are so light as to seem fragile. I think if I dropped thie handset it would smash (but I'm not going to test it!). Compared to my old phone and to my cell phone, the number-retrieval system seems complicated (at least four button-touches to find a saved number), but perhaps I'm still learning how to make the most of it. The instruction manual is readable, but there is still much for me to learn The printing on the key pad is almost invisible except under a bright light, so I wouldn't recommend this to a senior citizen.

I love this phone. Small, unobtrusive, expandable. I hate talking on the phone so this small size doesn't bother me. On the occasion where I've been on for more than a few minutes I think it is a comfortable size to use. The one thing I didn't expect when I got this phone and extra handset(s) is the phonebook. If you make any kind of change to the phonebook, it is stored in the base unit, so it updates on all the handsets at once.

The Linksys WRT54GX4, like all of Linksys's SRX400 products, is based on MIMO technology, a key component in the upcoming Wireless-N standard (802.11n). By overlaying the signals of two Wireless-G compatible radios, MIMO has the capacity to double data transfer rates. In fact, the maximum wireless data transfer rates of the SRX400 actually exceed the capabilities of the traditional wired Ethernet 10/100 data ports that are in place on most computer networks. It's that fast. And by using the network's signal reflections that usually hinder performance in typical wireless products to increase range and reduce "dead spots" in the wireless network, SRX400 effectively increases the coverage area of the network by up to three times that of Wireless-G. Of course, you don't want to transmit sensitive information without making certain the network is secure. To help protect data and privacy, the Linksys WRT54GX4 can encode all wireless transmissions with industrial-strength WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) encryption. It can serve as a network DHCP server, supports VPN pass-through, and has a powerful SPI (Stateful Packet Inspection) firewall to protect against intruders and most known Internet attacks. While it can dynamically enable a double-speed mode for SRX400 devices, it's designed to seamlessly operate with other 802.11 certified wireless devices at their respective fastest available speeds. And best of all, it enhances the performance of non-SRX devices by allowing them to connect at further distances than standard Wireless-G routers do. Short and Sweet...This is a GREAT wireless router. Set up was a breeze, in under 10 mins I had mine up and running. The best part, my signal strength increased dramatically.
Unstable and poorly documented.......2007-12-15
I bought this wireless router about six months ago and have had stability problems with it since then. The unit keeps disconnecting from my DSL modem. The DSL line almost never goes down so the problem is with the router. I have called tech support, read all the FAQs and tried all the fixes with no success. I replaced a Netgear router for which I only paid $30 six years ago and I wish I had it back. Avoid this unit...

PRO:
Works excellent as a host to one of my clients (LinkSys WAP54G with DD-WRT v.24). Signal strength at 75 feet (through 4 walls) is consistently between (-60) down to (-65). Speed Rate has never dropped below (40 Mbps).
CON:
Slightly Expensive compared to other Mfg's for comparable spec's.
Poor utility firmware.
No 3rd party firmware support as of now (to my knowledge).
All in all, unit is a sound performer as is.

After much effort to get this installed and working, it works marginally at best. Technical support was and is also marginal, handicapped perhaps by English being a second language.
I was naive and thought I could get the kinks worked out, and by doing so, missed the window to return it. I am glad other buyers have had good luck with the product, wish I would have.
