The phone does more than just provide a venue for conversation, however. It also sports a convenient data port for connecting a modem, fax, or answering machine in place of the second phone line. To receive faxes on either line, for instance, the user merely switches the data port switch to line one or two, then waits for the transmission. You can also switch the data port to one line while talking on the other, ensuring that your conversation flows steadily without interruption.
When you're on a call, the LCD screen displays the precise length of each conversation--a useful feature when tracking billable hours. Meanwhile, the speed-dial memory includes space for 32 separate entries with 32 digits each. Additional features include one-touch redial, compatibility with hearing aids, and a 19-volt battery backup that preserves the phone settings in case of power failure. Never again.......2003-11-21
This phone was a waste of money. It's lack of radio frequency suppression means I hear the local spanish music station during all my calls. So does the person on the other end of the line. While this could be considered ambiance it is distracting when you are having a serious conversation. GE has offered to repair the phone, but in the mean time I need to buy another phone - it certainly won't be a GE model.

Having had good luck with GE phones in the past, I took a chance on this model when I needed a business phone. Unfortunately, my string of good fortune ran out.
The GE 29438GE2 is not a bad phone, but neither is it what I hoped. The positives are many:
1) Attractively designed and solid feeling.
2) Large buttons and keypad.
3) Sure feeling to the keys.
4) Good sound. Reproduces voices nicely both in the handset and the speakerphone.
5) LCD display is easy to read, with large numbers.
But there are a few damning negatives:
1) The battery seems to drain rapidly, even with the unit plugged in. A dead battery means you lose your presets if the main power goes out. Very annoying.
2) The flash is not lengthy enough and will not always get you back to a dial tone with a single push. (This is a problem with many phones, though.)
3) Bleed between lines. You can sometimes hear what is happening on the other line, as will the person calling. This is clearly inexcusable.
4) Volume control is spotty.
5) Cannot seem to adjust the sensitivity of the VOX. Likes to cut out if the background noise in the room rises even a little. (This seems to be an issue with all GE speakerphones.)
In summary, this is only a fair phone when compared with other models out there.

Two reasons not to purchasing this phone. 1) Because there's no Voice Mail light, & 2) the damn thing beeps every time you do something, and the person on the other end of a phone call hears it. It's embarrassing, unprofessional, and a very good reason to never touch this phone.
This GE product looks like it was built to keep costs down. It should stand for Generally Embarrassing.
Speaker Phone Problems.......2003-03-03
Serious problem. The volume buttons do not function properly. In the middle of a conference call on speakerphone, the volume goes straight to it highest settting. Pushing the down volume button doesn't do anything. The reset option also does not work. However, sometimes it does work. I find that that this happens many many times. I really liked this phone until this unreliable feature is one. SO dissapointed, as I bought it for the speakerphone. May be a result of not using batteries as hinted at in the previous reviews. I am taking my phone back today. Can't anyone make a quality product anymore? This is ridiculuous.

I have actually owned several of this model. The main problem I've had with them is the speaker failing after 6 to 8 months. It's possible that the device that controls the voice one way at a time fails. I think it's called the VOX. It's suppose to prevent feed back while using the speaker. I have found the phone to work well when it's working. The styling is nice,the features are suffient for a small office. But, be expected to replace in a year. I tried one of those replacement contracts one time, man what a pain in the neck. I'll never do that again.

Don't Waste Your Money.......2007-05-30
I just purchased the cable and shipping was fast but then it was all down hill. I hooked it up to my HD-DVD player (my Samsung plasma doesn't have HDMI so I got this cable). I use hundred dollar Monster M1000 which are the top of the line component cables, so I wasn't expecting much of a difference from generic brand HDMI-DVI cables. When I plugged it in it blew me away. How much worse the picture got! After about five minutes the signal got all pixilated and then just froze (it wasn't my HD-DVD players fault it said cable error on the screen on the player). Well I suggest you go buy a Monster Cable and HDMI converter also by Monster to get what you paid for that's what I am doing.

The title of this review pretty much says it all. Since they're all made in China anyway, why would you want to spend any more than you have to? I admit I was a bit aprehensive about spending only ten dollars for a product that others sell for thirty or fifty or more. But it's a good quality, sturdy cable. What else can I say?
