The MD481 from Motorola is a 2.4 GHz cordless phone that can grown with your needs and includes a built-in answering machine. Expandable up to four handsets (two included), the MD481 lets you place additional extensions anywhere you need them. An intercom function lets you communicate with other handsets on the system, while a conferencing features allows you to speak with multiple parties at once.
Caller ID/call waiting compatible, the MD481 holds up to 40 numbers in its internal caller ID memory, and also features a 99-number phone directory (50 per handset, 49 shared) to help you keep track of important numbers. Speakerphones are provided on both the base and the handset, and a headset jack allows you to connect an optional headset for mobile, hands-free communication. A room monitor mode lets you hear what's going on at another handset location, while another mode lets you use the handsets as walkie-talkies.
A page/handset locator makes finding a lost handset quick and easy, and a low-battery indicator lets you know when to return the handset to its cradle to recharge. The all-digital answering machine has one mailbox, which comes with a 15-minute maximum recording time. A memo feature lets you record notes such as driving directions for later recall, while remote operation lets you check your messages while you are away. The MD481 also comes backed with a one-year limited warranty.

Had this for 3 yrs., replaced all batteries, 1 hand set is dead and hardly any buttons work. Hope I don't need to call 911 the 1 button is not working. I will never buy a Motorola again. Look at something else.

After 2 years, various buttons on all three of my receivers have stopped working. We can no longer answer the phone with two of the receiver (the "on" button doesn't work), but can dial out, with the exception of the 3 button. The 5 and 9 no longer work on the third receiver.
The voice message quality (outgoing) was poor from the beginning - crackly, like a worn out tape (not what I expected for digital).
The range is acceptable, and reception was clear in every room of the house and outside in the back yard.
Not a total loss, but I wouldn't buy this phone system again. I really don't trust Motorola's quality after using this product, so will be looking into other brands.

I have the same problem: the buttons do not work on one of my handsets. Also, the messages do not have a date-stamp on it, it only tells you whether someone called you on a M-F. So if you power goes out, the day of week is messed up, and you don't know when the msg was left on the machine.

I haved had this set for 3 years and have had no problems that are listed above. It sounds great, works great, and my daughters put the batteries to the test regualarly.

I have had 4 of these Motorola phones. In no time the buttons will not respond. Sent one back and Motorola replaced. Out of 4.. only one will still work. Now out of warranty. Again, the buttons commonly used will go not respond in short time. If you need a phone longer than a year..don't but this one.
