The KX-TG2000B is a full telephone system capability on 2 separate telephone lines. The base master unit and each cordless handset communicate in both directions using Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) Digital transmission for secure, ultra clear conversations. Up to 8 cordless handsets can be used in this system offering many PBX functions without wiring as in conventional small telephone systems.The KX-TG2000B base unit houses an all-digital voice mail system that provides one general delivery mailbox and up to 8 personal mailboxes, with a total recording time of 100 minutes. Each mailbox has its own individual greeting and can be accessed from any of the cordless handset stations. Incoming calls to the KX-TG2000B are efficiently handled with the auto attendant feature, which answers incoming calls and then routes the callers to the base unit or the desired handset, Voice prompts and time/date stamps, like those featured on larger business phone systems, make the KX-TG2000B's voice mail easy to use for callers and users alike. The KX-TG2000B allows 4 handsets to access voice mail at the same time or the base unit and 3 handsets at the same time. While this phone works fine as a one-base multiple-handset cordless phone system (sound is good, it is reliable) it operates in a very unintuitive, silly way. It seems to be designed as if with the expectation that you had an operator or receptionist in your house.
For example, imagine someone calls and your wife or husband picks up in another room. Its grandma. You want to pick up and join the call too. Well, you can't! When you try to pick up Line 1 on another handset to join the call, the phone will tell you "BUSY." You can't join the call. How silly is that? What possible reason would you not include that obvious feature? The only way to do it is that one person has to put the caller on hold for the other person to join, or maybe you have to go to the base station to conference the two headsets in...honestly, we don't remember how to do it. When my wife and I both want to be on a call, I just go to a landline phone.
A lot of its features are that way. To do most things, you have to go to the base station. But you are most likely to want to put that big ugly base station in your home office, or basement or something. So it is very irritating to have to march over to it to get on a call.
As a phone, it works very well. But little things like not being able to join a call are constant irritations in a system like this.
Worst PHONE ever!!!!.......2004-09-09
I purchased this phone in May 2004 - I have had nothing but problems with the unit and handsets. Panasonic states the base unit most be situated in a room with out a computer or 9 feet away from the closest one in order to not get garbly staticy reception on the handsets - wonder what office doesn't have a computer near a phone?? Low and behold you move the base unit away from the computers and the handsets still are garbled. Panasonic now states to reset the base unit and handset - i have to do this 5-6 times a day, while trying to talk to customers. And that still doesn't work all the time!!
Terrible System!! - Panasonic's warranty (I bought 3 yr extended) only covers giving me another model - I ship my base unit out to them, which leaves me with no phone system in the meantime. My recommendation - Stay away, far away from this phone system!!!

Evaluate your phone needs first!.......2004-01-11
As you can read from the many reviews there is a love/hate relationship with these multi-line phones. We run a small business from home with the need to have access to our home line along with the business line (2 line phone KXTG-2000B). The Panasonic phone had the features we wanted but we ran into a quality control issue. The first phone system lasted 2 weeks and Amazon sent us a second system. That phone lasted one week before we started to encounter poor reception on the remote handsets. Amazon refused to send us a third replacement and said they would refund all our money. We live 30 minutes away from the Panasonic repair center located in Langhorne, PA USA. I dropped the phone off for repair and got the phone back in a week. I have to agree with a previous reviewer that the Panasonic repair phone number is constantly busy and I had to call many times to get a person to see if the phone was repaired. Panasonic did not call me when phone repairs were completed. However, after the repair the phone performed perfectly. The audio quality is excellent without the constant cutting in and out (remote handsets) as before. The range is about 50 feet further than our old Sony 900 Mhz cordless phones. The phone has been working well for the last 2 months, so for now all sins are forgiven. We kept working with this phone system because the alternative phones (Siemens 8825) had just as many if not more problems than the Panasonic multi-line phone system.

The bottom line is, 90% of us purchased this phone for the "auto-attendant" feature. Unfortunately, Panasonic skimped on everything in this area. The auto-attendant functionality is basic, bare-bones, and completely unconfigurable.
The only thing you can change is the general greeting message and the mailbox messages. YOU CAN'T set your own extention numbers, define how many rings to allow before picking up, set to go to mail box automatically if there's no answer, etc, etc, etc.
If all you really need is a multi-line phone with answering machine, look elsewhere, there are far better phones for 1/3 the price. If you need the auto-attendant functionality, this is unfortunatly the only phone available short of purchasing a more expensive PBX system.
