The SPPA2780 from Sony is a two-in-one phone with a fully digital answering system and an extra cordless handset with a charging cradle. The SPPA2780 utilizes the 2.4 GHz digital spread spectrum signal, providing clearer reception than traditional 900 MHz phones. Caller ID and call waiting compatible, the SPPA2780 stores up to 70 numbers in its caller ID memory and up to 100 numbers in its jog dial memory.

The all-digital answering machine offers up to 20 minutes of recording time and is accessible from both the base and the extra handset. Users can add up to three handsets (for a total of four cordless plus the corded base handset) to this system, each of which can then be used in walkie-talkie mode to communicate with the others.

The SPPA2780 comes with a speakerphone, although conferencing is not provided, meaning that when one phone is in use, the others are disabled. The NiCad battery for the cordless handset provides up to five hours of talk time and up to six days on standby, while a low battery indicator lets you know when to return the handset to its cradle for charging.

The SPPA 2780 is headset compatible and comes with a belt clip to provide hands-free operation. The base has a 7.01-by-8.27-inch footprint and can be wall mounted, freeing up desktop or counter space completely. I purchased this phone system in 2001. I really liked all the features and how nicely the whole package was put together. Sony really knows how to design consumer products.

BUT DON'T BUY THIS PHONE! 6 months after I purchased it the cordless handsets starting having problems with the keypads. I purchased the system and 2 additional phones. That's a total of 4 cordless phones. Every single phone, without exception developed problems with the keypad. At first the numbers are hard to press, then over time certain numbers on the keypad stop working all together. If this only happened to one of the cordless phones I would have written it off to a bad one in the bunch. But EVERY cordless phone developed the problem.

Don't even get me started on the Sony's support crappy support. I gave up and purchased aonther phone system.

Up until I purchased this phone system I had been extremely happy with my Sony purchases. This has definately soured me. I'll think twice about buying any Sony product. Last thing I want is to have to deal with some guy in India who doesn't understand me next time I have a problem.

Long-time owner.......2004-08-18

I have owned this phone since August 2001 and it has worked on both standard (Verizon) and VoIP (Vonage) networks without any problems at all. In general I like Sony equipment and this phone has not disappointed. Talk-time is, with a fresh battery, around 2 hours and stand-by time around 24 hours, give or take.

I particularly like the speakerphone (base unit only) and the answering machine (base unit only but accessible via handsets), both are easy to use. The 2.4 GHz handset has never let me down, quality always good. To be fair, we live in a 1 br. apartment so dropout has never been an issue. Even so, neither 802.11 nor microwave ovens have posed a hassle to the quality of calls made via the handset.

All in all, I think this is a great phone, it's lasted me three years now and it's still going strong. It gets a LOT of use, I can't think of too many electronics products nowadays that last more than 12 months, in this regard the Sony phone is a standout.

Also, to the other reviewer who was looking for a replacement battery (my original battery died after about 18 months) for the handset, I got one from Radio Shack for about $12.95 in about a week, not a problem. Even better, it is a 1000 mAh battery as opposed to the feeble 700 mAh one that came with the phone, so talk-time is longer.

Sony Cordless Telephone.......2004-03-16

I have this Sony telephone and two expandable handsets. We live in an old house with limited phone jacks, so we have the expandable handsets in places where we could not otherwise have a telephone. We also can take the handset with us when we go to another phoneless room and save running up and down steps to answer a phone. The only problem we have is occasionally forgetting to put one of the cordless handsets in a charger at night and then running down the batteries. My biggest worry is where to buy new batteries as this phone seems to be discontinued.

Good (while it lasted) - great customer service.......2007-11-15

My printer lasted approximately six months before succumbing to "error 5100" messages. The error prevented the printer from completing print jobs and Google research suggested "error 5100" is a catchall for a variety of issues. I contacted Canon and a simple diagnostic suggested I had an encoder problem (something to do with the printer's ribbon). Canon's telephone representative told me I was the first person he spoke with who had this problem with this model. Unfortunately, there was no way for me to fix the printer myself, but since Canon has a one-year warrantee, they allowed me to either bring the printer to a store for repairs (Canon would pay the bill) or receive a refurbished printer via UPS. The refurbished option was a lot more convenient and "refurbished" is a broad term...technically, a product returned to Canon because the exterior box is damaged is "refurbished." Just three business days later, the refurbished printer arrived and it works well (and shows absolutely no signs of previous use or damage...I have a feeling it is overstock). Canon even gave me 6 BRAND NEW ink cartridges (a ~$70 value), a new power cable and all the CDs and documentation. Additionally, they gave me a prepaid UPS sticker so all I needed to do was stick my damaged printer in their box and bring it to the UPS store. So although I'm disappointed the printer broke after 6 months of light to moderate use, I'm very impressed with Canon's customer service. As for the printer...the photos I print always look pretty good and match what is on the computer monitor. Just be sure to always check your printer settings before printing...if you're printing on glossy photo paper or matte paper or want better quality/worse quality, you need to enter this information in the print dialog window before confirming the print job.

Great Photo Printer.......2007-10-20

I wanted a dedicated inkjet photo printer to print photos taken with my Canon Rebel XTI. After reading many favorable reviews, I settled on the Canon PIXMA iP6700D photo printer. WOW! Inkjet printers have come a long way in terms of print quality. This printer produces prints equal in quality to a professional photo lab. I'm very pleased with my purchase and strongly recommend this printer to everyone from serious photographer to weekend snapper. Buy it.

Great photo printer.......2007-10-06

Bought this printer for my wife who took up scrap booking and photo albums. She is not technical but learned to use the functions quickly. Print quality is excellent, printer looks good, and we've had no problems with it (8 months).

Only negative is there are 8 ink cartridges which are small and don't hold much ink. The price of the cartridges has been steadily rising.

Canon Pixma great choice........2007-10-02

Recently, after researching several types of printers, cost of ink, and photo capabilities, I wavered between this printer and the HP Photo printer. What helped me make my decision was the individual inks, 5, for this printer. Some have all colors in one cartridge and that seemed wasteful if only one color became low. The HP I was looking at, had come out with tanks so that it was individual also, but I thought the print quality was rated very high on the Canon Pixma. My choice has turned out to be very satisfactory for me. The printer is the quietest I have ever seen, very fast, photos are completed very quickly and the color is just great. The photo paper is excellent and I compared it to stock that was being used in some I had sent away for and judged color and thickness of photo paper was improved. I have a 35mm camera which I had disks from, and having these on the Windows XP computer, I made beautiful prints. I was very pleased with normal printing and feel that I made a very good choice. I would certainly recommend the product based on the period of time I have used it.

This printer is an overall excellent printer that works very well with documents and photo printing. I allows the user several options for printing on various media, paper, photo paper, various sized paper, etc...

The price value for this product is excellent!!!
