I bought this exact phone 5 years ago, refurbished. We have used it every day since and have had to buy only 1 replacement battery. The sound and reception quality are very good. After 5 years of everyday use by 2 teenager girls this phone works great.
Worked well for about 2 years.......2003-01-22
Bought this product 4 years ago and it worked fine for about two years. First problem: no longer could control the volume, second problem: a "sticky" talk button which slowly changed into the third problem: a "stuck" talk button. Couldn't use the phone after that.

Same problem with buttons after ~1yr. Has a great appetite for batteries. Radio Junk batteries seem the worst-approx. 30 da.
Worked for 5 months. Sony would not repair under warranty.......2000-02-07
This phone worked great for 5 months. Suddenly, when you press the "Talk" button to turn it on, nothing happens. Incoming calls still worked fine. I called Sony customer service. They could not troubleshoot the problem. Since the phone was still under the 1 year warranty, Sony customer service told me to take it to a Sony Service Center, an hour's drive away. When I got to the Service Center, they refused to repair the phone under warranty because I did not still have the original receipt. They offered to fix the phone for $70 (I only paid $60 something for it new!). I asked if they had the information from the "Warrranty Registration Card" I mailed in when I bought the phone, hoping that would provide evidence of when I bought the phone. The service rep told me "I honestly do not know where those cards go to." I learned two things: 1. Save your receipt. and 2. Sony customer and warranty service is severly lacking. I won't buy a Sony phone again.

I paid $100 for this phone a year ago and it worked great until now. I'm surprised at Sony but the numbers 1 and 3 no longer work.

I have been using this product since version 1.5 and was eagerly awaiting Version 3.0 so I could run it on my new Vista notebook. Program runs much cleaner for me under Vista (new install not upgrade) than it did on XP, although it ran fine there. Overall I am very pleased and couldn't live without my NeatReceipts. I travel extensively as a Board member and investor in companies and collect lots of receipts all the way. I should note that I am a board member of Neatreceipts but I am also a pretty experienced user of many business productivity gadgets and software. The program IS a little slow to load as noted here but I do have a database with more than a thousand receipt images . I have also found that my Vista notebook power settings have a pretty big impact. I timed my most recent expense report preparation from a 4 day multi city trip. It took 3 mintues for the program to load, 17 minutes to scan in 21 receipts, 5 minutes to edit data that the scan missed and 5 minutes to generate a PDF report that I emailed. I've been using the software and hardware for about three years so I know the little quirks that others have found annoying. You get used to it much like my Windows Mobile phone. I also usually do my scanning in front of watching a sporting event on TV on the weekend so I am multitasking anyway. The OCR is actually quite good and is improved in 3.0, dates which were a bit of a problem in earlier version read in almost perfectly, amounts are pretty good but do need to be checked for extra digits, 8s vs 0s (depending upon font), Vendor names get better and better as you "train" your system to recognize the stores/restaurants you frequent. End of the year I can run great reports (the upside of the large database installation that is bedeviling some of the reviewers here) for reimbursement and tax purposes. I don't bother trying to directly export to Quicken or Quikbooks. Business card scanning has worked well for me when needed and I use the Scan to PDF to email signed documents all the time. Scanner is very portable and I've completed expense reports on Amtrak or waiting in the airport lounge and immediately emailed them off.
"Export to Quicken" is MISLEADING, at best.......2007-12-27
OK, I bought this so I can scan receipts, export to Quicken and forget keeping a box of old paper receipts. I'm OK with the scanning ability because I only accumulate several hundred per year; however, after trying to export to Quicken I found out that NEAT Receipt's export/import feature is based on OLD Quicken format (QIF). The industry standard is now OFX and that format is NOT supported by NEAT Receipts software. No workaround, no nothing. I called customer support and was told that is coming soon. I asked, "How soon?". I was told, "We're not sure".
Bottom line, I'm going to return it until the software is compatible with current version of Quicken.
Very disappointing..........2007-12-24
The scanner itself would be great if the software wasn't so terrible. There are no useful options to set. You can choose B&W or color, that's pretty much it. You can't set DPI, folder to save in, or anything else useful. The software takes forever to load, and uses an inordinate amount of memory.
The scanner itself has the potential to be very nice. Receipt and document scans come in fairly clean. However, if you want to export to PDF, the PDFs always come out blurry! Also, the "scan to PDF" feature forces the documents to be saved after OCR conversion (which looks terrible despite being searchable).
The software really kills this product. It is bloated, unpolished, confusing, and painful to use. Despite having high hopes, I had to return this sorry scanner to the store.
The Best Way to Complete Expense Reports.......2007-12-23
This is a great tool for preparing expense reports. It simplifies the process and saves a lot of time.
My only complaint is that I haven't figured out how to import a receipt that wasn't scanned in (i.e. an email receipt from an online transaction). I'm sure there is a way to do it. I just haven't figured that out yet.
Overall, I'm quite happy with the purchase.
