This is the perfect little gadget to help stream audio files to virtually anywhere your wireless / wired network goes. I bought this in a deal for just 30 dollar and underestimated the product.
When I opened the box, I confirmed that because the outer casing was not that good. I mean the construction of the device is not so good. It has some sharp edges and can scratch you. However, when I switched on the device, it immediately detected by WEP enabled wireless network. It prompted me to enter the key which it accepted almost instantaneously and I was connected to my primary machine at home (I was running musicmatch jukebox already with the right settings).
The audio streaming works perfect. No drops, no breaks, no loss in quality. Absolutely perfect. Light weight and easy to carry.
Only cons: sharp edges and small screen. Due to the small screen, it might be difficult to read the display sitting on the other side of the room. But that shud be ok given the fact that now I am able to stream by media files anywhere in the house without have to write mp3 CD's.
This is definitely worth. I am looking forward for another deal to buy another device for my bedroom.
What's up with the extra $30 for radio?.......2007-05-07
SMC is asking for $30 to access all the radio stations. I do not think this is a fair price for something which is essentially a list of web addresses.
If you look around you can find UPNP servers which can run on one of your PC's and take a .m3u or .pls file from the radio station and serve it to this device. Unfortunately, this partially defeats the purpose of this device of beeing able to turn off your computer.
I am using cidero right now on OSX. It is written in JAVA and should run in many other places too. The only problem is that it is very slow and that if you press the keys too fast the device hangs.
I also found the eyeconnect UPNP server from elGato. It serves my iTunes just fine except that it puts up just one big list. Fortunately it also serves the playlists.
The three stars are for the annoying implementation of the radio feature.
Not the best unit but Woth the money.......2007-03-28
Was able to successfully connect to my wireless network (which even had TKIP). I had to change the key to all lower case since the unit only allows lower case letters. Build quality cheap when you hold it but you wouldn't notice it from 10 feet away. Sound quality is fairly good. It's hooked up to a Denon receiver with 5.1 speakers. Can't complain, for $35 definitely worth the money. Instead of plugging in my laptop to the home theater this unit does the job. Just wish it had some facility to rate the songs played. Don't know how long it will last so keeping my fingers crossed.

This has to be the best toy I've purchased in years. It's simple to set up and easy to use. It's so simple, in fact, that I didn't have to read the manual (Who needs those manuals anyway?)! I had it on my wireless network in 5 minutes and reading from my server in 10 minutes. The large-ish, bright display makes it simple to read from the couch, even in the dark, and the remote works from more than 20 feet away. The SMCWAA-G works flawlessly with the Twonky Music server (via uPnP) on RedHat Linux and MacOS X as well as with MusicMatch on Windows.
It just works. I can't ask for more than that, especially from a $100 device!
