The RM-V302 will control five audio/video components, reducing your remote needs from four to one. The RM-V302 will control TV, DVD, VCR, SAT/cable, DAT and other components. It is compatible with most major brands and is simple to use. There is both a TV and DVD menu function, making the manipulation of these components particularly easy. Additionally, there is a picture-in-picture function which will allow you to keep tabs on two channels at the same time. This Remote control is one of the Best. It's easy to program, use if all the components are Sony and the Most electronic device challenged person can operate it. I purchased one for my wife, father-in-law, a distant relative and the Student Lounge at a Community College where I work. I highly recommend this Remote Control. Works will all my components from a variety of vendors. Only weakness is lack of support for some of the higher end features on both my TV and cable box. If I want to switch from wide screen to normal, I have to reach for the TV remote.

stupid sony.......2005-10-28

bought this to replace all the remotes problem is you cannot have a cable box,receiver,dvd, and pvr, the vcr button only works with a vcr!!!!!! who even owns a vcr? you would have to change the function of the dvd, cbl, or rcv to the pvr then would lose one of those functions- very poor thinking on sony's part. otherwise programmed everything very easily. all codes worked.

Another disappointment from Sony.......2005-04-19

I bought this remote to replace an older 3-device Sony Remote control, with the hopes of using it to control (mainly) my Series-2 Tivo, and every once in a while to control JVC DVD player, Toshiba VCR, Sony TV, and Panasonic combo audio system. So far, it controls everything but the TIVO. In the code book, there are codes listed for a Sony Tivo and a Philips Tivo - but none for a Tivo Tivo. My other gripe is that the Volume and Channel keys, while they have gotten bigger, have been moved to the middle of the unit. On my precursor remote, the keys were at the bottom, making it easy to find and switch. This unit - the keys are similar to the keys below them, and it takes some hunting. There's no LED to confirm settings, and the keys feel much less tactile than the previous remote. Nowhere do the instructions tell you which device key to use for a DVR.
So, as always, just like leaving MP3 support out of it's MP3 players, Sony disappoints by leaving out Tivo-brand support, while supporting its own Tivo device.

Looking at all the other reviews, I got the feeling that this remote is getting a bit of a bum rap. Admittedly, I'm only using it to control my Sharp TV and a JVC DVD/VCR combo, but it works flawlessly. It also figures out that if you are touching volume up/down you want to change the volume on the TV (I thought you'd have to hit the TV button, then do volume changes).
