a truly great remote and receiver.......2007-10-29

i installed this remote a few weeks ago after mounting my plasma on the wall.

full disclosure, a family member has had this remote for a few years as part of a professionally installed system, and i hated it every time i used it. when i was researching these things, the one thing i knew was that i wasn't getting this one. having researched everything available, i found this was really the only choice for a non-line-of-site setup without paying a fortune.

the thing i've learned though is that this thing is incredible when you program it right. it's very easy to do so, and it's nicely outlined in the documentation. i've set it up and changed it a few times to make sure it's right. almost all of the buttons are customizable, the buttons i use most are already labeled correctly, and the light function lights all the buttons but the joystick deal which you wouldn't need anyway. the only other remotes in this class that i found had a color lcd. why?

i have all the components hidden in a closet, and the receiver works great. every now and then i'll have to press a button twice, but not often enough to be a problem. i taped the receiver ends to all components first to make sure placement was right, then attached them as instructed.

so the only reason i didn't give this thing 5 stars is cause i really can't deny it's an unattractive object. but functionally, the remote and receiver are great.

Easy to Use and Program.......2007-08-29

I just got the MX-600 and within 10 minutes I had my LCD, Yamaha Receiver and Tivo all dialed in using the codes supplied in the manual. The buttons are very sturdy and the back light function that lights up the LCD screen and buttons is great for finding buttons in the dark. Later, it took me about 15 minutes to program in a few commands from my receiver so they would be accessible when I use the Tivo. I have not used its RF capability yet but everything I've experienced so far leads me to believe that it will work quite well. To conclude, I would highly recommend this remote if you want to combine all you remotes into one (with a little time and reading of the instructions), putting the rest away in the drawer forever.

Amazing remote.......2007-07-08

This remote can be used for cable, tv, dvr and dvd all in one. You will not need different remotes for the dvd or vcr machine. Also, you can hide all boxes (cable, vcr and dvd machine) behind closed wooden doors and the remote works! It's great.

Best remote at its price point.......2007-06-30

I wanted to upgrade from my MX-500 which I love. The MX-600 has the same benefits with the addition of RF functionality. RF lets you use the remote from near anywhere in the residence but the true benefit of this remote is its ease of function.

The MX-600, like others in its family of remotes, can be programmed to control almost any device with the built-in IR codes or you can use the original remote that came with your equipment to "teach" the MX-600 the necessary codes. I use it to control 2 Directivos, an Onkyo receiver, Panasonic plasma and DVD player, and Pioneer DVD recorder. I also taught the remote to use the IR commands from my wireless keyboard so I can control my HTPC.

Customization is very easy, with the ability to edit button labels (on the LCD screen) with the names or types of your equipment, and the ability to program buttons for your favorite channels (a must if you have satellite or cable service of 100+ channels). The MX-600 also permits macro programming, i.e., the ability to execute multiple commands with one button. For example, I have a macro to switch the plasma input, change the input on the DVD player, turn the player on, eject the tray and display the DVD functions on the remote. Another macro swaps me back to the main Tivo.

You can also teach the MX-600, like most higher-end remotes, to "push down" certain commands, e.g., the volume buttons can be set to manipulate the volume of your home theater receiver, regardless of which device you are using (DVD, TV, etc.).

The RF range of the remote is excellent; battery life is also top-notch (it uses 4 AAA batteries); and the user manuals are well-written. End-user support via discussion forums and dedicated sites like remotecentral is excellent so you can always find an answer to a question you may have that the manual doesn't cover, as well as tips and tricks for using/programming the remote.

This is the remote I recommend to others when they complain about having too many.

Very Good, but not exceptional.......2007-06-12

This remote system is definitely the best you can buy for the money, and it works reasonably well. The manual may seem a bit daunting, but after a quick skim, the programming of buttons and macros is pretty intuitive.

The fact that it is IR AND RF is great, and it comes with the repeater, so you can control your electronics through cabinet doors, walls, etc.

The only drawback (which prevents the 5 star rating) is that the programming is a little wacky, in that the macros seem sometimes to forget their programming, and have to be reprogrammed a couple times to make them stick. Same with the button functions.

Overall, though I would definitely recommend this for any audio/video system with multiple componants in a cabint with a TV outside. The MRF-100 comes with everything you need, plus it has a blaster which allows you to control componants without having to attach the external repeaters (Also included). I installed them anyway, because the blaster doesn't *always work perfectly, since it bounces signal off a wood door, and only works when that door is closed.

Either way 4/5, almost perfect, if not for little prgramming quirks.
