It's a case...and well that's about all you can say.......2007-09-16
Case is a basic case for the Archos 504. It's functional. Not a lot to say about it beyond it does exactly what it should. There are better cases out there, but not on Amazon. Seller shipped nice and fast, if you have a choice of sellers.
Not A Great Case (But Unfortunately You Don't Have A Choice In The Matter).......2007-08-29
I bought an Archos 504 less than a month ago (it doesn't work anymore but I'm withholding doing a scathing review--if they get it fixed & it works okay after that I'll give them a good review). I bought the case a week later because the case it came with was cheap and useless (as in made of vinyl, no belt clip and no access to buttons.) I don't even why they bothered to put that one in...why not raise the price by $10 and give us this case? But I digress...
This case looks fairly sleek, is made of leather, and is thick, so it definitely isn't flimsy. The problem is that it is too small for the player. You can put the player inside it, but it doesn't fit well. It's sort of like when you buy new Tupperware, you always have one corner sticking out until the plastic stretches a little, which takes like 2 to 3 years. The same thing with this case, you have one corner sticking out. Because of the awkward fit, it's a pain to close the snap. You might want to lock the buttons when closing this case, because it's very easy to activate one of the buttons, like the volume, for example. You could find your eardrums being blown out if you aren't careful.
What also annoys me about this case is that there is no easy access to the control buttons. You have to unsnap the case to adjust the volume or skip to another song. If you're working out, it's a major pain. So, why not leave the cover open, you ask? Well, I tried that, and unfortunately, since the case is slightly too small for the player, the player has the tendency to fall out of the case if left open. I've had a close call on that one, but fortunately I managed to catch the player before it completely fell out of the case.
I haven't tried it as a stand, but from what I heard, it doesn't really do that job well either. The belt clip is okay, it does what it's supposed to do.
Unfortunately, Archos is not as popular as an Ipod--which has any kind of case in any kind of color you ever imagine--so there is only one case you can get for it that has a belt clip, and it's this one, in either red or black. It's overpriced and unergomonic but if you want a case with a belt clip you have no choice in the matter.
I'm hoping Archos with come out with a new case soon--like one with cutouts for the buttons and actually fits the music player it was designed for.

My archos 504 already fell out of the case twice, both times because the case does not clip in and hold the device. The case looks slick but the fact that the device is not secure while in it and when not buttoned, is a problem.

The case is just right for the player. It just needs work on the stand to play the PVP. Other than that it's great!
Poor design limits functionality.......2007-07-17
Considering the elegance of the design of the Archos 504 itself, this case is a substantial disappointment. It is poorly fitted to the 504 and the user must always be alert to the fact that the relatively flimsy snap may come undone and the Archos 504 can fall out.
The retaining strap is the key to the standalone function of the case. It should have been made of fabric, not stiff leather which prevents the stand from easily acheiving the most desirable angle. The retainer snap is not strong, so the case can easily collapse. A velcro fastener would have been a much wiser solution with a magnetic catch a close second. Even a more durable snap fastener would have worked well.
Overall, a velcro lined fabric strap would have made the case far more versatile, allowing the user to change the angle to suit changing circumstances.
The belt clip is a joke - a bad one - for anything but the thinnest belts.
The case does do what it claims: it holds the Archo 504 at a reasonably comfortable viewing angle. But it is poorly designed, limits flexibility of viewing angle and doesn't hold the unit securely. Be careful when using it.
