Share your music while on the road with the Harman JBL on Tour portable speaker system, which features an integrated protective cover that slides open to reveal a pair of full-range speakers. The slightly curved chassis measures 7 by 1.4 by 3.5 inches (W x H x D) when closed. When open, the cover shifts focus to serve as a stand, pointing the speakers upward to produce optimal sound on a flat surface. The system is compatible with most portable audio players thanks to its stereo mini-jack connection, which hooks up to such devices as the iPod, iPod mini, and a variety of other MP3 players, CD players, desktop computers, and laptops. The JBL on Tour is also easy to control, with a touch volume pad that both manages the volume and mutes the sound when desired. The speakers also remember the previous volume setting once the system shuts down.
Unlike many portable speaker systems, the JBL on Tour prides itself on its steady bass and clear, accurate audio. The device employs Harman's digital amplifier technology and Odyssey aluminum-domed transducers to deliver a full, rich frequency response that extends from low bass notes to high-end tones. In addition, the system uses computer-optimized equalization to improve the soundstage and an advanced energy management system that keeps the unit from wasting battery power during use. Additional features include gripping rubber feet below the speakers, an audio input cable, and a universal AC adapter. When used as a portable system, the JBL on Tour provides more than 24 hours of continuous play on four AAA batteries. The device also includes a low battery alert.

Works Well with iPod and Computer.......2007-12-24
I purchased this unit in white a couple of years ago. It works very will with my iPod when I am on travel or vacation. It works off of 4 AAA batteries. I use rechargeable batteries that easily last a single trip or more. Possibly longer if I used the new Sanfo Eneloop batteries that don't loose a charge in storage as fast.
You use the included male to male 1/8" jack cable to connect it to you audio device. I play my iPod in the morning or evening in the hotel room. If you put the iPod to sleep, the unit will go into standby mode to be ready to play audio if you use your iPod as an alarm. The only issue is that the power light flashes in standby mode and it is powerful enough to light up the ceiling of the hotel room.
The unit is small enough for your checked bag and load enough to be enjoyable without distributing your neighbors. The unit slides over to cover the speakers when transporting and the cable must to removed to close the lid. The enclosed soft bag holds the speakers and the cable.
I like the sound quality and loudness and only knock it down to 4 stars because of the flashing light and the cord storage issue. I would recommend it to anymore that travels and wants to turn any MP3 device into a small stereo.

I never would have believed that such great sound could come from such a small unit if I didn't see/hear it for myself. I'm not an audiophile by any means but I was completely blown away. My boyfriend who records and remasters music for a living was quite impressed also. Initially I was going to use it for my office, however the output is good enough to use for my whole (small 1 bedroom) apartment, so I'll be using it for the home. The unit is very well made. It has a nice weight and feel to it. I also like how it takes up such little room and manages to not look cheap.
The downside is it's impossible to turn off the device when the ac adaptor and the audio input cable are plugged in. Nevertheless, it's a forgivable flaw because it's meant for travel use. Also, unplugging the ac adaptor conserves energy use. All the better for enforcing the "shut off power switch when appliance not in use" policy in my home.

I'm happy with the price quality ratio of this product. It's plenty loud enough for outside personnel use, and there's minimal distortion when maxed. It's hard to tell the size from the pictures - I was expecting/hoping it to be larger, but it sort of resembles the size of a VHS tape, if it melted into a convex shape.
I spent hours researching for similar products, so let me make it easy for you - if you'd like a nice portable speaker system (that will satisfy a small group, not a party) to compliment your mp3 player, or laptop especially - go with the JBL
